Description
The leafs can definately sign Pietroangelo. Have to take into account LTIR. What I like to see: What could happen...hossa trade to any team for LTIR money most likely since coyotes need to shed cash. Would adv leafs with the LITR money over cap. Dubinisky is another option as well. both 1 year LTIR deals left.

Trading for a player to put on LTIR is essentially the same as just not having that player at all

From what I read you can go over the cap once used up with the LTIR contracts, like nathan horton and clarkson previously. This is definately not accurate but you know for a fact the leafs will be picking up someone to go over the cap

Sorry man, the wording isn't super clear, and the way hockey media talk about it would suggest that what you are suggesting would be possible, but it is not. You are thinking more of something like a Luxury tax.

yes the wording is very confusing then how did the clarkson and horton contracts help the leafs when they maxed there salary cap? i was under the impression that you get a % of it you can go over the cap ceiling.

This is what i was basing it on:

The league upper limit is $69M. A team has an averaged club salary of $68M and a player with a 35+ contract with an AAV of $5M ($3M cap hit and $2M in performance bonuses) becomes injured and the team places him on LTIR. The LTIR relief pools are calculated as follows:
AAV of LTIR player is $5M
Cap space = $69M - $68M = $1M
ACSL = $69M - $1M = $68M
LTIR relief:
Base salary relief pool: $3M
Performance bonus pool: $2M
Once the team operates above $68M, they have $3M in salary relief, and $2M in performance bonus relief pools.

No, so the TLgrinR is that if you have a player on LTIR you can continue to pay them without having them count against the cap.
There are some subtle details that mean it isn't quite that simple, but that's the essence of it.

So basically teams trade for those contracts so they can relief there internal LTIR payroll since they are paying them off the cap system. A team like Arizona who is cash strapped would most likely try to find a team to take the contract but wont help the other team cap wise, just pay the contract off the books and get something back in return. learned something. It is a very confusing system. Thanks everyone.

Depending on how our RHD unfolds, I would most likely make this move. Seems like Krueger likes Risto so I dont think he is moved, one of Miller or Montour would need to be unloaded for a forward. I dont hate Johnsson in our top 9.

Don't think there is a spot for Johnsson in the Sabres top 9

If Arizona gets rid of the Hossa contract, it wouldn’t be about cash. Hossa only costs them $1M in salary next season. They could decide to move the contract for cap reasons, but that’s probably less likely unless they manage to re-sign Hall.

Since we still need two to three more forwards in our top 9 to be competitive, there is plenty of room.

I wouldn't hate Johnsson on the top line with eichel and Reinhart, then olofsson and kahun on the 3rd with either Cozens or to be acquired center. Olofsson and kahun looked good together in the limited time played.

Line two would be Skinner, Staal and to be acquired RW.

I want no part of Johnsson on the top line. He is a perimeter player that is easy to play against and not very good in his own zone. He is very similar to Kahun and Skinner in his style of play and we need someone with a different style game from him for the added forward.

Skinner is much more difficult to play against than Johnsson, and Kahun is more defensively sound than Johnsson. I defintely wouldnt compare the 3 as similar, I dont think any one of those 3 players have a similar style or edge to their respected games.

Sure Skinner is a much better version of this pkayer but I don't see why you would want to give this player first line minutes that being the case. Or if in a third line role pay 3.4 million per for that type of limited role as we don't have a ton of cash to go around as is

You give him first line minutes to spread out the scoring. Eichel and Reinhart can do just fine with Johnsson on their line. Allows for Skinner on line 2, Olofsson on line 3 with Kahun. Those two looked great with the limited time they played together last year.

Put Tage with Skinner and Staal, try and trade for Eller, or sign Haula, and all of a sudden you have 3 lines that can play hockey in the NHL.

Johnsson Eichel Reinhart
Skinner Staal Thompson
Olofsson Eller Kahun

In the CHL, where he should be. And yes, I know he is different, and he is ready, but so was mittelstadt, and so was grigorenko, and I can keep going. Lets stop being like Edmonton with rushing our prospects, and let our prospects develop.

I think Colin Miller needs a change of scenery. Leafs have interest in him - Boston they inquired. Keefe and Dubas know him, contact is decent with 2 years left and is a good contact if he bounces back. Andreas Johnsson is a good contact back that will help the sabres if he is healthy as well.

Treating every player the same is a horrible approach to development. Does it appear that Edmonton rushed McDavid or Draisaitl or RNH or Yamamoto. Middlestadt and Grigorenko both lacked and still lack NHL skating ability antenatal maturity. Middlestadt had a good freshman year in college but he was not dominant or clearly better than the level of competition. IMO Cozens playing in the CHL this year stunts his development. He has shown to be clearly dominant and above that level of competition already. When you reach that point IMO your game will not improve any further by playing at that level and you have a tendency to develop bad habits that you can get away with at that level but not on a higher level where you aren't the best player on the ice every game. Again IMO you could have kept Grigorenko in the ahl for 5 years before bringing him to the NHL nad the result still would not have been any different.
