Description
Didn’t want to be this guy, as I saw a lot of these for Mantha and others lol. But it needs to be said! The Jets aren’t moving Laine for a quantity type deal. They’d have to address their C and D needs in a Laine trade.

I’ve seen a lot of Laine to MTL deals that have them trading Domi + Fleury + 1st for Laine. That’s absurd, the jets would be wanting to upgrade C and would be looking for quality coming back. One of KK, Suzuki, Romanov or Caufield would have to be included to even get the conversation started for WPG. I know MTL fans will cry about that but it’s just the way it is when you’re moving a guy like Laine. I’ve seen him being moved to many other teams as well. Like NJD and others, you guys really have to offer a quality deal for the Jets to consider it. I’ve seen some good ones, but a lot of bad ones.

If you want to leave what you think is a truly fair trade for laine, go ahead. Let others give you some feedback!

I’m leaving a few deals that I think would be close for Laine. Feel free to tear me apart for them!

This one likely is a no go for NJD as they don’t have a lot of C depth behind hischier and Hughes but they’d have to consider this. It’s likely turned down though

I know this is almost an instant no, but the isles would get a top winger to score with barzal and the jets solve their 2c and top 4 RHD issue. Maybe the jets add Heinola and it’s fair?

imma block the Jets' GM's number if he tries that ****

Laine is overrated, and the definition of a one dimensional winger.
McDavid doesn't need any offensive wingers, he needs 2 way wingers. The McDavid line let in almost as many goals as they scored this season, so a possession winger like Ehlers/Tatar/Gallagher would be massive

I know, and that’s kind of the point I’m trying to make. In big deals like this, each team will have to compromise somehow. I think Caufield or KK is a realistic option but I can see Romanov and Suzuki being totally off the board.

If you took the time to watch any jets games, you would’ve seen a totally different Laine lol. He’s not a liability in his own end lol. Yes his defensive game isn’t on a selke level but he’s really improved his 200ft game. If you don’t watch a number of games you wouldn’t know that lol.

See I’m okay with you thinking this, reason being that I know it’s an overpayment. Trying to emphasize on the fact that teams would have to overpay to get him.

I get it. Based on the Canes cap situation coming up, Im only interested in Ehlers. Laine will cost too much when Dougie and Svech will as well. No Necas though.

Laine is overrated but he will still get the biggest return if he is traded - he is a household name and teams will pay a premium for goal scorers. For the islanders, they’re better off attempting to trade for ehlers/Connor. Laine is going to want at least 9 mill on his next contract and he isn’t worth that.

isles would only accept if it was one for one with pulock. Nelson is a top 6 forward and pulock is a top 2 Dman. Both of those Laine is an overpay for sure, isles would rather ehlers or connor 1 for 1 with pulock if they did any trades

Most of his offense comes on the powerplay. His even strength offense is decent, but his even strength defense is in the 8th percentile of all NHL players. That means 92% of all NHL players are better than him at defense.

Thats a fair trade, but the isles don’t need heinola. The opportunity cost to acquire Laine is too much for what they have to give up and pay him on his next contract. Laine is a 7-7.5 mill player , but he’ll get 9-9.5 on his next deal and he likely won’t live up to it. Ehlers is already providing excess value on his contract and Connors deal is fair.

Losing a 2C and 1RD for a 1RW and a LHD you don’t need doesn’t make the team better in the next 2 years.

isles would only accept if it was one for one with pulock. Nelson is a top 6 forward and pulock is a top 2 Dman. Both of those Laine is an overpay for sure, isles would rather ehlers or connor 1 for 1 with pulock if they did any trades

I think NYI need to add to 1-for-1 Pulock for Laine. But this offer was Laine /Heinola for Pullock/Nelson. Its not crazy. I would do that.

NYI are deep down the middle. Adding Laine or Connor to the league's 2nd worst power play seems like a good idea.

The islanders would be a better team with pulock and Nelson in the lineup than just Laine/Connor

Most of his offense comes on the powerplay. His even strength offense is decent, but his even strength defense is in the 8th percentile of all NHL players. That means 92% of all NHL players are better than him at defense.

Seriously.... he has 16 points on the pp this year 8 goals 8 assists and 47 points even strength 20goals 27assists... hardly relying on the pp, and our defence crops were basicly nonexistent this year so all our forwards defence stats r pretty low. Have to say he is one of the better 2 ways players we got

It’s funny to say but he’s a better 2 way player than Scheifele, Connor and maybe even wheeler lol.
