Marner To Chicago

Description
I would like to see Marner play with Kane in Chicago, but I don’t like the contract situation for them since they will have to resign Boqvist, Dach & Kurashev all due extensions the following year. With De Haan & Crawford’s salary coming off the books, plus the possibility of the cap going up & Keith retiring, Chicago can clear around 12-15 Million to get their young stars back in this archair gm.

I would do that. 2021 1st or 2020 0nly if we win the play in. Not the 2020 if its top 10

I would do this trade no matter what the pick is unless it is 1st overall. Marner would be an amazing pickup for this team now and for the future. Lets say that we didnt do the Ottawa trade and kept Kubalik while doing this deal for Marner. Our top forward units look like
    Kubalik - Toews - Kane
    Debrincat - Dach - Marner
    Nylander - Strome - Caggiula/Kurashev
That would be absolutely busted and Mitchell would replace Murphy on the D-Lines. We would instantly become a contender in the west

This years even if its top-10 or next years first and change Saad to DeBrincat. Which are you choosing?

Neigther. Just going off this situation we wouldn't need Marner anyways because we would have laf. No need to overpay. Saad would be nice to keep for a playoff run and offers something the other wingers on the team don't. I wouldn't do debrincat for Marner strait up. Yeah Marner is better and will get more points, but I would rather the cost controlled 40 goal scorer than Marner for 11 mil per. Plus we would get to keep Murphy and our 1st.

I believe he is still a valuable player to any team. His two-way game is amazing, his point totals should raise in Toronto in more offense-based environment. So like 50-60 pt two-way playoff performer for 6M (I dont think he signs for above 6M in his extension) is a good piece.

I mean, he's a fine player, but he's not a centrepiece in a Marner trade type player. And line his offensive game, his defensive game (while still pretty good) has declined as well and match the aging curve pretty well. And if he signs for 6 mill it will be for waaaaay too long to justify taking a bit of a hair cut on AAV.
So basically, Saad good, Saad as anything but a secondary piece in a Marner trade, bad.

Neigther. I wouldn't do Debrincat for Marner 1 for 1. Marner is obviously the better player but I would rather Debrincat for 5 mil cheaper and his 40 goals per year. Plus we would get to keep Murphy and our 1st.

Offensively we would be stacked but not defensivly. Its unrealistic that brodin even hits UFA, but even if he does our defence is weakCould be good in the future but too young to contend now.The most likely lines:
    Brodin-Boqvist
    Kieth-Mitchell'
    Dehaan-koekkoek

And that blocks Carlson, Beaudan, Regula, Vlasic from seeing NHL ice

And the year before Cat had 41, marner had 26. Not arguing who the better player is, its obviously marner, just saying I would rather cat for 5 mil cheaper

Cat will be an RFA and won't cost 11 mil to resign. Again not arguing who the better player is, its marner, but I would rather save the cap space for Dach, Boqvist, Mitchell, beaudan, kurashev, kubalik, strome, etc who would all need extensions in the near future

I think that top 4 on defence looks pretty good on paper to me, assuming Mitchell can come in and be a solid player, which as a 21 year old who has been getting top pair minutes in college and working out on a college program he should be able to fare fine against men as long as he isnt on the top pair. Either way, if we had a chance to land marner without giving up Dach or Boqvist I would totally do it. The kid is insane

Well that's just it, players who are better and come with term cost more money. And one of those players was on a career normal to high trajectory while the other had a down season. Personal choice is a thing, but when one guy is on pace to shatter the other guy in goals and points, the pervious season isnt as big a sell.

Marner and Lafreniere would add a lot more scoring chances and give a much needed bump to the powerplay. Dach and Boqvist would benefit developing getting ice time with this talent as well. Crawford will be interesting to see how long he continues with his concussion history.

I’m shocked we haven’t heard a single “Toronto hangs up the phone and loses your number.” Then “Marner starts with Dach, Boqvist, Debrincat and a 1st”.

The offense here is Stanley Cup worthy. The D is not. This will be a new Toronto: cap strapped, expensive elite players, insane offense, rough D, questionable goaltending and a 1st round exit.

I would take Saad Murphy and 1st all day, probably wouldnt want to give up Dach.

That makes sense. I feel like regardless of his contract he's still a big part of the core there, but if he's for sale for this I would definitely do it. It makes a lot of sense to add young win now players like Marner to our core because he's still only a couple years older than Dach but he's also at the point where he could contribute with Kane and Toews and help us "make one last run" which is our new catchphrase

Yes I agree it would be awesome if Chicago could get Marner without giving up Dach, Boqvist, Strome & DeBrincat. I think it’s unlikely that Toronto trades him, but given their cap situation you never know.

yep, just as bad as expected.
terrible try, terrible effort, and yes, the Leafs say no through fits of laughter

Maybe the value is a bit off, but it’s not a terrible effort. At least the Leafs are getting the pieces that they need to contend in a top pairing RHD & excellent play driving 2 way Forward.

that does not get u marner. Its not even close. Marner is one of the best playmakers the NHL has seen and he is only 22. He is young and has plenty of good years ahead so pass

I’m looking at it from the circumstance of the Leafs being able to resign Saad, so they might consider it.

I think the defence is pretty good. As a rookie defenceman, Boqvist has done pretty good & he’s only gonna get better from here. Mitchell looks like he’s going to develop to an excellent top 4 defence man. Brodin is elite as a shutdown defender & would be still in his prime for the first 4 years of his deal. De Haan if healthy, is pretty good. That’s a better defence than Toronto.

Crawford is still a really good goaltender but it will be questionable if he retires.

Obviously there are concerns about the cap if they acquire Marner, like there would be with any other team since he has a 9 Million AAV. But with Crawford, De Haan, Keith, Kane & Toews’ contracts all coming off the books season in 2 seasons from 2021-22, they will probably have enough money to pay off the new core.

yeah, no. he's not a top pairing defender. If he was Chicago fans wouldnt be trying to trade him for Kapanen all the time. He's a number four defensive defender with zero offensive upside and not great mobility.

    Sorry for the late response.

Can’t say I don’t like this. I’d love someone like marner on the hawks. However, I am skeptical as to whether or not marner would be as effective on this hawks team. Not because of the players around him, but more because of the style of play Colliton makes us play with. It’s slow, defensive, and honestly a cure for insomnia. 😂 The irony of colliton’s system is that many hawks fans on this site value the two way games of Saad, toews, and Dach, and it doesn’t get us any closer to the playoffs. The trade itself though, I do think the leafs could get slightly, SLIGHTLY, more for marner. Then again, value on this site is constantly inflated and deflated.

That Ottawa, as you said, is definitely kinda wishful thinking. I have no love for nylander whatsoever, but I do like kubalik. Naturally, Ottawa wants that pick if it becomes top 2-3, let alone lafreniere.

I do like the creativity of this though! Kudos!
