Don't know why they would. The OTT 2nd is 33rd overall in a deep draft. I also doubt they look to move back and add more picks. More likely they move at least a couple of their picks for immediate roster help.

Don't think Toffoli takes that deal. He might take $5M if he gets 8 years, but I suspect he'll get $6M+ on the open market.

Columbus declines no use for Beartschi, if you want us to take him pay up.

Also if you buyout Sutter you can’t resign him for a full year.

Columbus and Vancouver almost had a deal in place for Baertschi at the trade deadline and I think it would look something like this with maybe 50 percent retained salary. Maybe you're right and a marginal prospect is added but it would only be a year of him at about 2 M which you could bury if it didnt work out and Columbus has the roster space and cap to take the risk. As for Sutter, in the CapFriendly Buyout FAQ, it states "For one season following a compliance buyout, players were not permitted to rejoin the team which performed the buyout (this restriction does not exist for normal buyouts)", so he actually can be re-signed.

The only reason we almost had a trade for him was injuries. If the team is fully healthy he’s in the AHL and a cap dump.

As for the buyout, even it if it’s possible, why would I he resign with you? You obviously don’t think he’s good enough for hit current contract. Plus he’d probably get more else where then 700k. He’s probably worth 1.5 to a contender as a 3rd/4th liner. Essentially you’re paying him not to play for you, then paying him to play for you again at a cheaper rate. Sounds like cap circumvention to me...

Huge overpay for Markstrom. Also how are you signing Hughes and Pettersson next year?

Ok sure, Baertschi doesn't have to go to Columbus. Maybe they find another trade partner or simply bite the bullet and pay a few extra hundred thousand dollars to buy him out. As for Sutter, I think he would resign because the Canucks would only be buying him out because of his cap hit and they could save money this way. He is still a good bottom-six penalty killer and I think he would remain with the Canucks for a year given the uncertainty with Coronavirus and he probably doesn't want to uproot his family at this time. It would also be a win-win for him because he would get all his money still, plus an extra 700k and wouldn't have to move his family immediately. I don't know about cap circumvention but if it was illegal to do so like you're implying then there would be a rule against it which there is not like I mentioned.

Well, in this scenario each team would be granted 2 compliance buyouts as a result of the Coronavirus pause and disruption to revenue and ultimately flat salary cap. The first would be used on Loui Eriksson this year and then the 2nd on Tyler Myers next year. With that, the Canucks would have roughly 26M of cap space to sign Hughes and Pettersson, and whatever depth can squeak in. Although undetermined I also have Ferland on LTIR as unfortunately, it looks as though his history of concussions has put his career in jeopardy, but we will know more once training camp starts.

But you only have 500K in cap space and only a couple of contracts coming off next year. So with all these moves, how do you sign them next year?

If you look in long term outlook, next year's projected cap space is 20.5 M.
