Brassard as 3C in case Kerfy is gone

Description
Leafs keep Dermott and play Sandin in AHL to see how Lehtonen transitions in NHL. If well, we might see Dermott trade, if not why not use Dermott in his spot and Sandin comes back up. Depth is good thing, not bad.

Prepare for the incoming CBJ fans claiming Savard is worth Nylander...

Also why trade Malgin?

CBJ fans want fair value which imo would be Kerfoot (they stated it). Why trade Malgin? there no place on roster for him and I dont want him sitting or gone via waivers.

Personally I would rather have Mark Jankowski or Johan Larsson instead. Both probably cost about the same and both are way better. Larsson is extremely good defensively but Jankowski will cost nothing to acquire and is still a good 3c

I think Brassard is best out of those 3 options. Larsson is 4C, Jankowski is struggling offensively but Brassard could be perfect two-way 3C.

First thing to look for in a 3C for the Leafs is whos the better penalty killer. Im not sure of the answer but I go with that one.

Larsson is a very good penalty killer but the leafs already have tons of pk'ers. Koivu could be another option

Koivu is retiring a Wild. I dont see that as option. Brassard or Jankowski could be options.

Larsson played 2c in buffalo this season and was extremely good. Check out @ntrider825 on twitter, hes got a bunch if stuff about Larsson on there.

Jankowski had a 95 pdo and played almost the whole season with Zach Rinaldo and Milan Lucic and did alright defensively. Anyone would fail in limited oz time with horrible linemates and some of the worst luck. Put him with kapanen and mikheyev/Robertson/johnsson and you've got a very good defensive 3c who can be on the 2nd pk unit and put up 35-45 points

Wait do CBJ fans actually want that?

Also, we can start Malgin in the A and since he already has NHL experience (he was decent with FLA) we could call him up when injuries happen and then when its waiver time we trade him.

I'm 100% here for a zacha+severson trade but zacha still needs a bunch of work.

They have nobody else in Buffalo.. larsson is 4C for me, but Jankowski would be also a good option as well as Brassard.

They said so..

Malgin is NHLer without any doubt and should not play a single minute in AHL.

I love his pk ability and he is good defensively but his offensive upside needs quite a bit of work. Better linemates would for sure help him but he is talented. Some work in the leafs organization and he'd be very good

NJ fans want a lot for him though.

I'd prefer to trade Johnsson+ for Acciri. He's on the block with Barkov/Haula/Wallmark in front of him.

Interesting. Which CBJ fans said this? Last time I suggested a Kerfoot for Savard trade they told that Kerfoot's not enough.

And to be frank, I agree with them. In general 3Cs are not moved for 2nd pair D-men.

Dont remember which ones but they said that Kerfoot for Savard would be something that would make sense in offseason.

No he's not. 20+ goal players are 3rd liners. I'd have him over Kerfoot and Johnsson based on contracts and their production over this year.

Leafs have a ton of PK'ers but none of them are centers. We have Hyman and Engvall taking draws and in general not doing very well. There was a strong need for centers who can PK all year.

If UFA Brassard is truly a 3C as you say, why doesn't Columbus just sign him at 2m or so, as you did and then they could keep Savard too.
This will alway be problem of trading 3.5m Kerfoot. His replacement at a lower cost likely isn't going to be as good. And in the NHL you need a 3C with offensive skills, he isn't just a plug as a defensive centre.

you think Dermott will sign 1 year 875k? I think he will be looking for 1.5M on a 1 year deal (Weegar, Petrovic, Mueller comparables) or around 2M for 2 years (Zadorov, Benning, Stecher comparables)

I think he might. Something around what Marcus Pettersson signed last summer.

Tavares has always been a good killer. He was one of the best in the league when he killed with the isles
