Kyle Dubas needs to be fired

Créé par: Saskleaf

Description
Dubas has made stupid move after stupid move. Overpaying the big 4, Trading Kadri, Giving up a first for nothing (except cap space), and of course, refusing to get a good right handed defence man. So many times he has proved he should be replaced. What everyones thoughts on this? Also, just remembered. Willy should have been gone the moment they signed JT.

It doesn't matter, it's still a team paying 3 players 33,527,000. They can't pay there stars extra money if they want to contend lol

They already have majority of their depth locked in for next few years. Kappy, Kerfoot, etc. as 3rd line depth pieces does not resemble Crosby playing with Aston-Reese or Dominik Simon, etc. because Pitt is screwed if an injury or 2 happens.

Hyman and Rielly only impact players that need raises.

Then obviously have a question with Andersen who either gets a slight raise or walks.

Right, add Rielly and you got about 46M, I forgot to include him in my comment.

Yes, I would be surprised because they have about 10 other teams better than them.

If you go looking for 5 players that provide better value its not hard to get some, but its really easy to find a pile of other contracts far worse. Its not Matthews fault McKinnon is criminally underpaid. And to use that as ammo for why Matthews has a "bad" contract is silly.

Ok so any legit criticism like for instance the Leafs not showing up to play very often is hating the team??

Ok so that must mean that me saying that the Rangers’ D structure sucks, that Staal and Smith are awful, that Howden doesn’t help the team and that Hank was only a shell of his former self this year means I hate the team I’ve loved since I was 6??

Everyone loves the team they grew up with. I will never EVER cheer against the Leafs, and support Dubas's moves fully because although other fans question his moves, I have a massive biased. We should stop fighting over sh*t like this it just makes everyone upset.

As questionable as some of Dubas's signings are, Lou was much MUCH worse. You don't give out 7 yr deals to depth pieces tears of joy

I just made a post comparing 45.5 million spent on the Leafs top 4 players vs the same amount spent on the Island. TO wins hands down its silly.

Just move Zaitsev and a prospect for a 7th if you must even Eugene Melnyk of all people agreed to take on Zaitsev’s deal, I GUARENTEE you other terms would’ve

But did they? Also who cares? Zaitsev doesn't move the needle and neither did Brown. I liked both but crying over depth guys is just silly.

No they wouldn'tve. Dubas tried for a very long time to move him and OTT was the only taker. They took back Ceci since by then all the UFA's were gone and in the past he's been fine, and Brown was the prospect. I'm glad he has a role on a team since he wasn't seeing enough ice time in TOR and although everyone thought he was capable of more he was never going to beat out Kapanen, Marner, or Nylander.

I was fine with that trade.

He has a very analytical style. If it falls flat on its face then so be it we can call it a failure but so far he has made a ton of smart moves (as well as some less then smart moves).

You asked if they could solve the RHD problem if the cap rose, I'm stating it would have happened pretty easily.

Assuming goaltending is good(Campbell sucks), the RHD fixes there blueline, quality bottom 6 with grit, and everyone performs to the best of there ability. All those things and they MAY beat the Bruins. But there are still a lot of better teams they need to beat.

Kyle Dubas:

1. Traded for Ceci to save Toronto from Zaitsev's crippling 6-year contract (that Lamoriello signed)
2. Traded a 1st to save Toronto from Marleau's crippling $6,250,000 contract (that Lamoriello signed)
3. Traded for our best defensive d-man (Jake Muzzin) and re-signed him to a good contract.
4. Traded for a goalie (Campbell) that had just signed a (far) below market value extension.
5. Signed Kapanen, Johnsson and Kerfoot to multi-year extensions at below market-value.
6. Signed Jason Spezza to a league minimum contract.
7. Acquired John Tavares without giving up any assets.
8. Acquired Ilya Mikheyev without giving up any assets.
9. Acquired Miko Lehtonen without giving up any assets.
10. Drafted Rasmus Sandin 29th overall.
11. Drafted Nick Robertson 53rd overall.

And sure ... Dubas definitely overpaid Matthews + Marner by a total of about $2,000,000 ... but you know what?

Mikheyev's value vs cost made up for that entire $2,000,000 this season (all by itself).
And his extension should be reasonable, so he'll probably continue that (all by himself).
I could also mention that Nylander looks primed to out-perform his contract.
I could also mention that Kapanen looks primed to out-perform his contract.
I could also mention that Sandin and Robertson will be steals on their ELC's.

But you're right ... he should have just traded Matthews + Marner because they had good agents ... right?

So because no one is calling for Lou to get fired from the Islanders, (some of this is not on his shoulders) here is how he is currently spending 45.5 Million.

Lee (about to turn 30 with 6 more years of term) 7 Million
Nelson (turning 29 this year with 5 more years of term) 6 million
Eberle (30 years old with 4 more years of term) 5.5 million
Laad (over 30 3 more years of term) 5.5 million
Bailey (over 30 4 more years of term) 5 Million
Paguea (turning 28 with 6 years term) 5 Million
Boychuck (30+ 2 more years term) 6 million
Leddy (turning 30 2 more years of term) 5.5 million

I would take Matthews, JT, Marner, Nylander and Rielly over that group 100 out of 100 times.

Most of those guys were already signed when he took the job...

20 teams are within $2M of the cap. Flat cap hits way more teams then just the Leafs, but i guess that's not as much fun to talk about.

I love how you guys keep sugarcoating Dubas signing 3 guys for pretty much 11M each. Its bad management, but I'm not the one that has to live with it. Enjoy another decade without a cup. Hey, at least you guys got good regular season entertainment with that sick mitch marner and that sick auston matthews!!!

That is a colossal pile of crap. He made a mistake, he didn't hit his stride until after he signed his contract. He had a great rookie year and then two years of not great numbers and signed long term. It had nothing to do with greed or wanting to win. Same with Pastrnak, who has openly said if he could have done things different he would have gone shorter term on his 1st deal out of ELC. Why? Because they both terrible short changed themselves.

Lee, Nelson, Eberle and Pageau are his work. But considering the others were there already he should have known better than to give long term to guys that a) don't deserve that much and b) have James Neal and Andrew Laad declines coming their way very soon. But let's fire Dubas for putting money in the hands of players that can actually perform for their whole contracts.

He was supposed to be good... He was at attempt to get a player who plays the position of defense on the scorecard (and I'd right handed) 😂

That's false. Not everybody needs or wants the biggest contract. It's greed and ego and doesn't belong in hockey.

I think it would be absolutely stupid to fire Dubas after 2 years.

He tried to solve the RHD problem by trading Kadri for a RHD and a replacement Center
- Barrie didn't click with Babcock's coaching, but did under Keefe
- The Canadian Hockey Market is stupid in comparison to Florida. Players here lose 50% (Ontario specifically) of their income because Canadian taxes are dumb, and thus want to be paid more. Plus Toronto is a market that the media hounds religiously, so might as well get more money to be constantly berated by the Media (Willy and Marner got death threats over their contract disputes), whereas Florida markets have barely any tax, and no media (thats why Kuch, Stammer, and Point signed all below market value)
- Lou signed a whole bunch of terrible contracts that Dubas needed to try and get out of (Marleau and Zaitsev), so he used resources like the 1st to get out of those contracts, and has done very well in scouting and drafting players that will fit the mold of the Leafs (small, fast, good hands, scared of the Bruins)

I think you need to cut the guy some slack. A lot of players had down years (Andersen especially), but Dubas tried to resolve those issues by bringing in pieces to protect, and rest their players.
This also could have been posted in the Toronto Maple Leafs forum, instead of clogging up the Armchair section

He had seasons of 63, 38 and 52 points and signed his long term deal. Greed had nothing to do with it. His numbers were less than Nylander's were when he was done his ELC. Come on sir, at least try to make a valid argument.

4. Jack Campbell sucks(not as bad as he used to be, but not that good either) he is not "far below market value" he could end up being overplayed if he flops again.

5. Kapanen and Johnsson are not below market value, I don't know where you get that from. Adrien Kempe has basically gotten 3, 30 point seasons while one of them was barely missed 40, he is getting paid 2M for 3 years. See Alex Iafallo as well. There are many others. Of course anything less than 5M sounds cheap to a Leafs fan.

6+7. Tavares and Spezza are Toronto boys so that wasn't hard or impressive by Dubas.

8. Mikheyev was injured for almost all of the season so why don't you give it another year before you start counting that.

9. Lehtonen hasn't played yet, slow down tiger, it's the NHL.

Everything after that is just a matter of opinion, time will tell.

Do you even know what market value is?
