If Matt Benning is better than Kulak, why would the Oilers trade him for Fonstad?

Columbus declines that very very easily. We have no interest in adding Tatar, we have no use for another wing, we need a 2nd line center. Also McShane is a UFA July 1st... not sure why we’d want him in the trade.

McShane will be getting a contract, don't worry about that.

Montreal rejects the 2nd and 3rd trade.

Montreal accepts Matthew Benning trade because we aren't signing Fonstad anyways.

Also I was wrong, he’s a UFA June 1st... you have 20 days to get him signed before he’s a UFA... doubtful he signs now.

Not sure why you are doubtful. There are tons of players who rights expire in 20 days who will sign a contract around the league. The season being suspended is just delaying the signings.

If you could wait 20 days and pick the team you go to, you’d wait. That’s why I’m doubtful. Most players want to pick where they play and want a path to the NHL. In Montreal there’s really no path for him as he’d be stuck behind a lot of guys for an NHL spot. I wouldn’t be so sure a player who can wait 20 days to be a UFA doesn’t wait unless they get a good deal and a 3 year ELC would be the same anywhere he goes.

Most of the guys who's rights expire have to go back into the draft, this isn't like the U.S, they still don't get to choose where the play unless they go undrafted in the draft. He will sign with Montreal, don't worry about that.

What does the US have to do with anything. It’s the NHL not whatever leagues you’re thinking of. And you’re right he goes back into the draft, but the last time a player was redrafted was Connor Bleckley from Colorado to St Louis and the last one before that was Fredrick Anderson from Carolina to Anaheim. Players don’t get redrafted very often. I wouldn’t be so sure he signs.

As Bergeron said, only 1 is getting a contract. Do you pick McShane, Fonstad, Hills or Houde...Hills was the hugest draft as a 3rd round pick, and had 83 points last year.

As I’ve been continuing to say, I wouldn’t be so sure he gets signed.

The U.S has to do with this because the players rights don't expire until they are 23, at that point they are too old to go back into the draft meaning the day their rights expire, they can sign with whatever team they want.

I'd imagine he signs McShane and Hillis. The others will expire.

Oh okay... and that’s not US. That’s College players. There are US players in the CHL and Canadians in college. Bergeron said 1 gets signed, not 2. Again, I’d sign Hills over McShane.

I never said US players. I said the US meaning college. Maybe you are right. Also, why are you changing your story? You said McShane wouldn't sign because he can sign with anyteam, and now it's because Bergevin doesn't want to sign him... which is it ?

Both... Bergeron said he’d sign one of them and the likely hood he doesn’t get redrafted is high as not many players are redrafted because why spend a pick on a 20 year old vs a 17 year old. You’re right he could be a later round pick and sign with them. I’m just not as sold on him being signed by Montreal as you are. Sorry

Nothing to be sorry about, just different opinions.
