Description

Trade Tierney for picks. Anisimov and Chlapik rotate as 4C, until the deadline when you trade Arty and Chlappie takes over full time.

Byfield gets put between Tkachuk and Ryan. Tkachuk is Ottawa's 1st line Winger, so he obviously gets to be on the top line. Ryan is Ottawa's most experienced forward, and he's been solid for a while. As a former 2nd overall pick as well, he's the obvious choice to take on a mentor role with QB.

Duclair-Norris-Batherson is the most dangerous option for a scoring 2nd line. Three creative offensive talents, and Batherson has shown chemistry with both players.

"The Colour Line" of Brown-White-Brown is a potentially really effective 3rd line. Likely the defacto matchup line, White and CB are the sens two best 2-way forwards. Logan Brown obviously needs to improve significantly in that area, and throwing him into the fire is the best way for him to learn. If LB21 can put it together they can also provide some secondary scoring.

I dont see him being a 1st line center not in his first year. They will probs put him on the third line like Toronto did with Matthews just to let him settle in.

The Matthews line was the top line immediately, just not in ice time. I think it will be similar here. Whatever line Connor Brown is on will be the one that plays the most, because that line plays against the 1st lines. Similar to how the Leafs rode Leo Komarov like a horse in 16-17 (though Brown is far better than Komarov ever was)

With players that young (he only made the cutoff for the 2020 draft by like 3 weeks) there's always concern, even with the truly elite players. It's hard to play in the NHL at barely 18. Where Byfield sets himself apart is in his size. At 6'4 215lbs he's probably the most physically developed prospect despite being one of the youngest in the draft. Physically he's a grown man already. He's probably more physically ready than Brady Tkachuk was, and his big draft asset was how physically ready he was for the NHL

He might get another year in the OHL, but I suspect he's at the very least ready to walk in and play as a top 9 forward, even if he's not dominant immediately.

World Juniors are not a great indicator on who is ready for the NHL. First off, he was 17, almost a full year or two younger than most of his team and competition. Do you remember Lafreniere's age 17 world Junior performance? He was not good. Honestly making the team at all is impressive for a 17 year old. Also 5 games is not a meaningful sample size.

Leo was basically the "well we have to send someone" guy for the Leafs. It was basically him or PA Parentau lmao

He's still 17, and will be until August. And you're proposal pits him against the best on the world, not the best within 2 years of him. Huge, huge difference. I don't think it would be fair to him to throw him into the deep end like this. He'll be there soon enough, and for many years to come, but I would send him back to the OHL for a year if I were GM.

I think there's a chance that he's sent back for sure. I think he will be given the opportunity to make it, and with his size and his skill I think there's a good chance he'll be able to hang as an NHL player.

I'm going not suggesting he's going to walk in and be a 40 goal, 70-90 point guy, but I think he has the capacity to put up 15-20 goals and maybe 40 points as a rookie.
