Description
According to Leafs analyst @sammyt_51, the team should go after Radko Gudas if they are unable to land Alex Pietrangelo. The guy is an excellent shutdown defenseman who is outstanding at suppressing shots. I’m not an analytics guy but his xGA/60 is really good. Exactly what the Leafs need.

I don’t think teams are willing to give up a stud defenseman for Marner.

He isn't elite or anything but at least get Marino from PIT. He's better, cheaper, and younger than Gudas.

Gaudreau isn't better than Marner, at least there's no statistic that would point to that.

Overpaid he might be, but then again he's a 90+ point player. He wouldn't be getting much less.

He's also younger. I think their value's quite the same.

B-b b-but hes overpaid by 1.5 million so hes trash and has negative trade value

any team loaded with top defense would take marner in a heartbeat that man just screams play maker.

I don’t know man. I love Marner but really cant see the Preds giving up Ellis, Ducks giving Manson, Pens giving up Marino or Canes giving up Pesce for him. That’s a very steep price.

Gaudreau is also 4 years older, been in the league longer, and has 3 years left just wait for that next contract (10mill +). Yes Marner is overpaid, but with his skills and abilities teams will be looking at that mostly, him with any top center would just make any team better. If the islanders, columbus were both willing to give him more money than toronto for more term than the trade market for him is fine.

I believe that Marner has a higher ceiling than Gaudreau, but as it stands right now, Gaudreau is better by a little & he’s on a way more team friendly contract. We have to keep in mind gaudreau put up 99 points playing with Monaghan as his center, not Tavares!

Well even though Mitch is my favourite player, I’m more concerned about making the team better. There’s a salary cap & sadly he doesn’t fit.

I can’t see the Pens trading Marino for Marner cuz it would mess up their cap.

You’re either overvaluing Marner or undervaluing other players. I never said Marner was trash & has negative value. You’ve got to realize that the package I sent for him in this ACGM is substantial. An ordinary player wouldn’t be able to fetch such a big return. I’ve seen you Leaf fans want Guentzel, Marino & 1st for Marner, but you’ve gotta realize that it’s not realistic. No team is going to give up that much, as good as Marner is.

Gaudreau's cap percentage is 9,25%, which makes it 69th expensive player in the league percentage-wise. It might look better now, but when the contract was made it wasn't as team friendly as you seem to think. Also the term was prepared to make him just leave as UFA, and he might just be leaving Flames in a couple of years. What I've gathered is that he's not exactly fan favorite there due to his subpar performance in the latest playoffs...

I think performance wise Gaudreau and Marner are fairly equal. Gaudreau's contract is better, but also shorther and riskier. And he's also older. Therefore I'd say there's a decent comparable for you

And to be fair completely fair, the difference between Monahan and Tavares was only 6 points. Not that much, really. Marner and Gaudreau got almost the same help from their respectable centers that year.

Tavares is still a significantly better player than Monahan. He’s one of the best in the league at generating space for shots & a big reason why Marner was so successful with him. I like Marner better than Gaudreau, but Gaudreau is still the better player. He’s more proven, therefore, he should fetch a bigger return than Mitch.

Better player, yes, but points-wise their share was quite similar.

Regardless how Marner did last year with Tavares doesn't really matter now. They aren't even playing together this year.

This year Marner has scored 9 points more than Gaudreau with 11 games less than him. He has unquestionably been better of the two, and his value is also at the minimum the same that Gaudreau's is. Probably more.

I'm just curious, why do you claim Marner being your favorite player if you undervalue him so much. He's TOP5 player in his position, most likely TOP30 player of them all... Usually people claim their favorites as being better than they actually are, but you're complete opposite to that. Frankly, I find it strange.

Are you really just trolling Leafs fans or do you have a different agenda, because I can't really tell what's going on with these posts.
