Dermott isn't the LHD That Tallon would be looking to acquire this is a joke, Nowhere near enough to get Ekblad out of Florida Tallon would want Nylander+Liljegren for a starter and nothing less.

Are you kidding me? Leafs would take this and run, Florida is the one that would laugh at the offer not enough for Ekblad.

For a top pairing RHD, ya. Nylander is good but it this trade would do more damage to Florida then help them. While on the Toronto side it would help them immensely

This trade benefits Toronto a hell of a lot more then Florida. Get real adding Dermott while losing Ekblad hurts Florida's D core a lot Nylander is a great piece but this trade sets Florida back doesn't help them.

The fact that the opinion on this trade is so split tells me three things.

People aren't aware of how average to good Ekblad has been the last 3 years.
Everyone still underrates William Nylander.
People aren't aware how good Robertson is.

This trade is terrible for the Leafs. Bad, not at all good.

If Florida wants to upgrade at LHD I bet you could get Ghost out of Philly for almost nothing, they don't want him anymore and he's had some good seasons but isn't getting the icetime there. He would fit in well as PP2 guy.

This trade severely hurts the panthers more than helps. Panthers already have a top 3 offensive. It’s their terrible defense is why they are not a top 10 team. So taking away their best rhd and only adding offensive is what makes this a severely one way trade for Toronto. Yeah the value is there but it’s only a one way trade.and ekblad is finally coming into his defensive self. While not having a good partner for a while. He should be in the 45-50 point range this year.

Points are not a great measure of a defenceman's impact. Ekblad's results look better this year then the last couple (of course his zone starts are a little easier and his PDO is a little higher). He's still a negative expected goals player though and has been almost every year. Ekblad is a good defenceman. But he's paid a lot. And that is an absolute LOAD for Toronto to give up to get a good defenceman who is overpaid.

I think this is a case of the trade being good for neither team. That's hard to do.

The last couple years he was playing with yandle who’s absolutely **** of a dman and who’s a glorified 4th forward when on the ice. This year he was playing with weegar and that’s why he looks better. He just needs the right partner. And Toronto will never get a dman they want for cheap. 7/8 million for a good dman is a good price nowadays. Rielly will be there very soon. And look Barrie wants 8 million a year. Ekblads contract will look much better soon enough.

I don't disagree, especially with the length of it. I just don't see these two teams matching up, especially since they are destined to be fighting for the playoffs against each other. But when I say good, I mean, not elite. Parayko is elite and signed for just over 5. Ryan Ellis is signed for just over 6. Pesce is just over 4. Seth Jones under 6. I know all situations are different but Ekblad's contract is not cheap compared to those guys, who I would say are all better.

Maybe look into the Leaf players and then make a judgment, your statement is the classic, "I know all Leaf players suck and are overrated so this trade is a steal for TO....I came to this conclusion by not looking into anything and am basing my thoughts on the comments on this site that have proven to me that everything to do with the Leafs is bad."

Nylander alone is better than Ekblad who can't stay healthy, has had concussion issues, isn't the big 2 way force that he was drafted to be and is older. Nylander had 1 bad season where he missed the first 3rd of the year and was buried lower in the lineup by a coach who took a lot of pleasure in playing mind games with young guys. Now that he gets a fair opportunity equal to his talent and he's on pace for 30+ goals and 70+ points at the age of 23. The best is yet to come for Nylander while Ekblad is pretty much at his best.

Dermott is also 23, has dealt with injuries the past calendar year and can be summed up as an up and coming 2nd pair 2 way defender with elite skating.

Robertson was in last years draft only because his birthday was days before the cut off for that draft year. Had he been a few days younger, he'd be a top 10 pick this year. He's scoring at a goal a game pace in the OHL and isn't even an overager. Still 18 years old.

To sum it all up, you are just an ill informed anti leaf goon.

Parayko hadn’t quite come into his own when that was signed and the other guys beside ellis will sign big contracts over 7 mil Jones could push karlson money which he should. He’s one of the best dman in the league.
