Not enough for Petro

Trade would have to include either Sandin or Nylander, each would have different trades but that would be the starting point in negotiations

for a UFA defenceman going into his 30s, that just wouldn't be wise of any team to do.

Big no on both Martinez sucks I would rather keep Blais. Pietrangelo is worth more on an extension think DD8, EK65 value, even though I strongly disagree with it that’s what I have seen same for money both I don’t agree with, but apparently everyone is an expert on Blues players without doing research lol. But ideally I would rather keep Pietrangelo on a 4-5 Year deal for less than 8 million, and let’s be real his wife loves st.louis and has told him she wants to stay, Pietrangelo has 3 kids here with grandparents, and he has a nanny here. It’s hard to find a good Nanny when moving to a different area. He loves st.louis too so taking a pay cut until when he retires isn’t all that bad when he has more of a chance of winning multiple cups here than anywhere else to the point where most of them don’t even have the cap for that kind of money.

He said with an extension in place. If he was walking into UFA definitely not that much but if he has an extension it's one of those two going the other way.

I agree that thats what the asking price might be, but I personally wouldn't do it simply because of age. seen too many stud defensemen falter into their 30s. also you'd have to pay him 9+ mil on a long term for him to agree to a deal

Gotta look at skillset though. Pietrangelo is much closer to a Giordano or a Weber who have played at a high level in their mid thirties, and his analytics support a gentle aging curve (barring some massive injury or something). For a currently cup contending team like the leafs, that's a no brainer. But it's also a no brainer for the Blues.

No reason to give up Blais AND Sanford in that Martinez trade.

The Blues could win the President's trophy this year. If we're trading Pietrangelo with an extension the leafs better be giving us William Nylander and Timothy Liljegren at a minimum. And since they won't do that, we won't be trading him.

So you don't even mention the extension. Kinda of dumb concept really.
Blues tell/ask their Cup winning captain. "We want you ass outta here so hurry up and negotiate an extension with the Leafs so we can trade you."
So, Pietrangelo might have a talk with the Leafs but he tells them. "Now that I know your offer, I might sign with you in the summer especially since I'm not going to be a Blue. Keep those assets instead of trading them to St Louis so the Leafs will even be better if I sign with the Leafs."
Leafs say no the trade anyway. Pietrangelo isn't going to make that much of difference this year anyway. But betcha Dubas agrees to the trade just so he can talk to Pietrangelo. Offers him a wink wink 1m X 8 years extension, so no deal is signed and no trade.
