Kreider is a complete player who consistently averages between 40 and 50 points a year. He's brutal to play against (ask Carey Price) and has a style that is even better suited for the playoffs than the regular season. If Kevin Hayes, a pending UFA who said he would not negotiate an extension, can net Brendan Lemieux, a first and a fourth, Kreider would fetch something similar -- especially if he is agreeing to an extension.
An even better comparison might be the Dzingel deal between Ottawa and Columbus last year. Dzingel and a 7th for Anthony Duclair and two 2nd-round picks. Again, for a rental UFA.
Interesting. I was thinking Nyquist (30% retained for 2nd + 3rd) and Johansson (40% retained for 2nd + 4th) would have been closer comps. In season boxcars at the time of trade (with Kreider's current numbers mixed in):
Nyquist: 62, 16-33-49 [0.79 P/GP]
Kreider: 47, 16-15-31 [0.66]
Johansson: 48, 12-15-27 [0.56]
Career boxcars:
Nyquist: 481, 125-170-295 [0.61]
Kreider: 507, 149-153-302 [0.60]
Johansson: 578, 119-212-331 [0.57]
It'll be interesting to see what the market decides on Kreider.
