Really don't know if helps the Leafs this year, losing two NHL regulars and only getting one in return. I would argue Kapanen has been the Leafs 4th best forward this season.
And next year, rather have Kapanen, and if you trade him you get a better return, Leafs might be able to cap space better than Larsson for one year at 4.1m

The probable reason for Toronto adding is the misconception that Ceci is a massive cap dump and not an NHL Dman. But any RHD in the league is better the Leafs Dman including zero goals, one assists, minus seven Larsson in 15 games.

... because NHL GM's make decisions on veteran players solely based on their past 15 games when they were getting up to speed after an injury.

Edmonton adds a cap dump, both teams are right at the ceiling, also a dump evens out the trade value. Probably Gagner (no retentions) and a 5th or something

Because Oiler fans think Larsson is better than he is. He's just an upgrade over Ceci, would be the #6 defenceman in TO. While Kapanen immediately becomes the Oilers best RW.

Larsson is better than Ceci though. He's not great but he is better than Ceci.

Ceci is garbage. I do this trade in a heart beat if I am the Leafs. The end result ridding the team of Cody Ceci, adding a 3/4 defensman and having enough money to go get a back up!!

Well, he's not in the NHL this year. Don't know if PJ could even make the Leafs roster on wing. He could barely crack the Oiler poor Oiler lineup. So he plays in the Finnish league and is doing well.
Couple years ago the leading goal scorer in the KHL, departed and joined the NHL. Yep that worked out well for the Kings, having Kovalchuk.

Zero interest in Ceci. Zero. I know what Larsson is capable of (and the way he's playing right now), I'm admittedly not overly familiar with Ceci, but from what I know there's no interest from Edmonton's side in swapping these players.

Difference is that LA sucks. Kovalchuk joined essentially what is a sinking ship.

For context:

I sure hope not, Larsson looks to be back to beast mode.... Playing amazing the last 5 games or so. Keep him on number 1 unit with Klefbomb, they are crushing it.

I agree - they've been ridiculously good the past few games. I watched the Dallas feed on Monday and their PBP guys were talking about how Bowness was trying to juggle his lines to get his top players away from those two. Just in the past week, Edmonton has played 4 games, going 1-3-0, having scored 9 goals for and allowed 13 goals against. Klefbom-Larsson played 66:18 together (5v5) in those games and posted positive metrics, including 2-1 goals and 14-6 in high danger scoring chances, all while playing an incredible 74% of their time against elite opposition. They've allowed a grand total of ZERO goals over the past 4 games by elite opposition, despite having played teams like Toronto, Dallas and St Louis who have quite a few elite players.

Larsson. He is an easy upgrade over Ceci for less money and with an additional year of term. NO BRAINER.

We have an excess of wingers, Kapanen is expendable.

Oh, wish Larsson had showed his greatness on Saturday. Gee Ceci had to play big minutes when Barrie was injured in the third goal. Oilers got a goal that night.

Where exactly does this endless support for an overpaid and underachieving defensman come from? Is it just because you are a Leafs fan? Or are you actually his brother or something?

I dig supporting the team but, your constant defence of Cody Ceci and his underachieving ways make me think that there is something else here. Please explain.

Sorry, you're like so many that say get rid of Ceci, but fail to show a logical trade that helps the Leaf this year or the future. Trading good players to get rid of Ceci and contract and then to fill with marginal better player seem to the norm in these trades/. Really think Larsson is going to be a difference maker for the Leafs this year
Stop with overpaid nonsense, All teams have overpaid players, they all don't get traded. It's a fact for the next four months, which if anything makes a trade even tougher for the Leafs.
Your hate for Ceci...did he dump your sister and you can't get Leaf tickets? Please explain.

Delusional. Your views are so nonsensical that I'll stop there.

Jesus Murphy... One more for the "ignore list". I'm running out of Leaf fans to discuss things logically with boys....

This is ridiculous. What were you expecting of him? That he play 60 minutes??

His stat line was incredible for a loss, keep in mind here that the Oilers were outscored 3-0 at 5v5. Here are Larsson's 5v5 numbers:

23:37 TOI
58.70 CF% [+11.82 rel]
60.53 FF% [+19.35 rel]
69.23 SF% [+28.21 rel]
0 GF - 0 GA
73.48 xGF% [+42.99 rel]
87.50 HDCF% [+60.83 rel]

Also, he played against the Leafs top lines that night (notice they didn't score?) - here is his TOI vs Leafs forwards:

Marner: 9:49
Hyman: 9:27
Tavares: 9:13
Matthews: 8:16
Nylander: 7:58
Kapanen: 7:43
all others under 3:35

His High Danger Corsi events against Toronto's top 2 line were 6 for, 1 against. He and Klefbom dominated Toronto's best. It was Toronto's depth - their 3rd and 4th lines - that won the game for them.
