Marner without Tavares, and without Matthews ahead of them, and without Kadri keeping the other team worn out.... doesn't get 90 points this year. He's still pretty good, and he still might get 70, but if you take away Chabot, you take away Ottawa's motivation to trade for a forward.

Of course, The Leafs might be worried about just having Nylander and Kapanen at RW with the trade in the OP. A 1st round pick and some decent players might be fair value, but does it fit team needs? I'm not sure.

Lebrun said on offersheet he wanted that. Which in my opinion means that he would only leave toronto if its overpayment of an offersheet, which will not happen. But it seems like teams want to overpay for his services and Dubas wants to keep him so unless offersheet happens or overpayment of a trade is presented, Marner is going anywhere. So thats why I post higher trade offers. Marner is great player but he is not justified getting the money. He will stay a Leaf, I would say that.

They progressed well in latest weeks and they are close, really close or even done with the deal, that it is finished. That I have conflicting info about, but I know that he has 2 clear max offers from Leafs on the table and he is gonna decide if he wants 3yrs or 6yrs. He will want more money of course, but wouldnt get it. Leafs (Shanny and Dubas) wouldnt go past 9x3 or 10x6 mark and he will likely sign somewhere around those numbers. BUT Im still the same, reasonable, SammyT!

way over valuing marner. in terms of value it goes Goalie > Defenseman > Center > Winger. Marner is a great winger but why would ottawa send back the better package for a guy that has no contract? makes zero sense.

Chabot IS worth more than Marner. Dude had 55pts in 70 games and was on his way to 70+ before the injury and took time to get back to speed after coming back. Him and Demelo were both in the + but when Ottawa traded off their roster and the team had issues scoring their +/- took a hit.
