See, Bruins fans? See what you have to deal with?

Let's re-visit my Victor Rask for David Backes and Karson Kuhlman trade.

The way i look at it, TOR traded out a 1st for a single year of Marleau at 6m AAV. You could say Marleau is a better player then Backes and it could be close but i think a majority would agree. BOS is going to be in the exact same situation as TOR/WPG/VGK next year with DeBrusk. If you want to get rid of Backes with a NMC it would probs take at LEAST a 1st+2nd

We're not moving our 1st.

Go for 2 2nd or R2-7 picks along with some prospects

Marleau also said he wanted to get bought out if it wasn't too a few teams that didn't have cap, so it was also 6.25 mil for completely dead cap, vs 6x2 for an okish bottom 6 guy (I can't say I watched a ton of him, but I'd assume he's still definitely an NHL calibre forward) that brings good veteran leadership to a rebuilding team, probably more than a first, but probably like a first meh prospect and you take a bit of cap back

Backes will cost less to buyout than Marleau did and have less cap hit. So...no.

Take out the 2nd in your scenario and you are about right.

How do you figure its Cheaper??????

Backes Buyout:
Year 1: $5,666,667
Year 2: $3,666,667
Year 3: $666,667
Year 4: $666,667

Marleau:
Year 1: $6,250,000

You are paying Marleau for 1 season on a B/O. Backes you are on the hook for 4....

Boston fans may not want to give up the first but it's going to take that plus to move Backes imho.

Marleau was 3.25 to buyout Backes is 2.67. That is cheaper by my math. Not sure about yours.

The last 2 are irrelevant. It’s year 2 that is the difference. And if the club trading for him isn’t going to use the space anyway they are not going to mind to add a cheap 1st. In this scenario Jax would keep him year 1 pay him 1m in salary with 6m cap hit then buy him out for 1.67 with a cap hit for 4m with 1m the following year. Or retain and flip. They trade Nash for a late round pick to save 2.75 next year. Making up a good chunk of it. For a team short on picks last year and next, they are adding a 1st and 3rd ( i dropped the 2nd) pretty cheap.

Boston has been steadfast in that they will not trade their 1st to move Backes. They sure as hell are not moving 3 picks. They will bury him trade KMiller. 3.6 saved and buyout Backes next year. Or trade him a 2nd and mid level prospect and take back bad salary but usable like Victor Rask or Riley Nash. ??‍♂️

Not sure where you got your information from because its not even close.

https://www.capfriendly.com/buyout-calculator/david-backes My numbers were assuming he was bought out today.

Jax can’t buy him out today. They would have to wait til next year. The numbers are correct.

Canes paid 3.25m in actual money to buyout Marleau and carry a 6.25 cap hit.

Backes bought out this year would cost the team 2.67 in actual money with the 4 years of cap hit you laid out.

If they wait a year his salary this year is 1m with 6m cap this year followed by 1m payout each of the next two years to buyout with 4m cap hit next year and 1m the following year

It's not us or only us.

Sweeney moved his 1st in the Nash's deal in '17-18 and it was hard to do anything without the pick at the Draft. He also seemed to point out that he may " never " trade his 1st again anymore unless it's a very good deal. It's a difficult situation to be in, especially considering the 2018-2020 drafts.

So it can happen, or not. Just saying Sweeney is reluctant to do it.

Sorry -- Minnesota covets a right-handed forward and Kuhlman is from Minnesota. Any other prospect will also cost you a second.

What I'm saying is that BOS fans thinking they can move Backes will have to accept they'll almost certainly have to send a 1st to get anyone to take him. What Sweeney says (he may well be reluctant but he may well have no choice to be able to sign both McAvoy AND Carlo) and what he does when he's already between a rock and a hard place are two completely different things.
