I really like what Dubas did this summer

Description
They needed Right hand faceoff specialist and they got Spezza/Shore.

Needed RD and got Barrie/Ceci/Shmaltz.
I think Ceci will be better than Hainsey if he plays with Rielly. They can use this pair as shutdown role and/or put Rielly/Barrie, Muzzin/Ceci depends how the game goes.

I wanted more grit but this is similar to what I have thought.

I think this team is more balanced and better than last year team.

Still has to sign Marner though...$9x3 yrs seems reasonable...

Evolving Wild's contract projections put a 3 year Marner deal at ~7.5 AAV, so 9x3 would probably be a realistic bridge given how much Marner's camp has been asking for.

Let's be realistic; Leafs fans will only like or not like what Dubas does this summer based on what happens with Marner

True, but would you rather have Zaitsev for 5 years or Ceci for one? That's an important part of what Dubas did this summer; instead of being tied to Zaitsev's cap hit, he now has free cap space for the 2020 offseason, which is exactly when he will be able to fully redo the entire defense.

Yes but i think $9x3yrs is still too much but I think it is acceptable for Marner camp and they do have that much cap space so I think it is happening before Training Camp or latest before the season

I think Gardiner = Barrie (I think Barrie fits Leafs better due to he shoots Right)
Kadri is better than Kerfoot but he was under used in Leafs. Kerfoot is cheaper and younger and fit better in #3 Centre role.
Brown is good player but is luxury to have him on 4th line most of the time at $2.1. Rather put $700,000 guy.

And I believe Ceci is upgrade from Hainsey/Zaitsev.
He was on a very bad team and is advance stat is really bad but he played over 20min per game and if Rielly made Hainsey stat like last year, Ceci will look much better.

I think 2020 leafs D will be look much better.

There are a lot of RD available Pitrangelo, Barrie, etc...

I think with Sandin/Liljegren coming up and Dermott maturing, they only need 2 RD to sign then will look much better.

I wish they could sign Pitrangelo at reasonable $ and term.

Yes Dubas made good moves, but Leafs aren't better this upcoming season. Getting rid of Zaitsev was necessary, I agree

It's going to disappoint so many people when he signs and nothing exciting happens. Someone is going to blink before the season starts if not Marner or Dubas, some of the other people involved in the big RFA's.

It's going to be great so we don't need to see 25 AGM's on here a day with Marner scenarios....believe me, 30 other team's fans will rejoice

His moves may not have improved them for next season, but it's undeniably true that they have more flexibility moving forward. Ceci and Harpur suck, and it sucks that they were the main consequence of erasing the Zaitsev contract, but locking up his top 6 forwards (Marner excluded atm) for the next 3 seasons at least and planning for reconstructing the D corps in 2020 are necessary moves that will pay off big time in the future.

Half of that crap us fans of other teams and you know it. Fans of other teams are 50% of the reason why there is so much drama with the Leafs. It's such a weird thing, half of their popularity is hate from other fan bases. It's so stupid, why do people get so emotionally involved?

Still didn’t address your lack of backup goalie. That’s gonna be your weak spot. Andy’s gonna have to play 60 games

Why is this phoney argument games played always mentioned about Anderson. 7 more goalies played more games than Anderson, There were 14 goalies that played 55 games and more.

I never said it was an issue playing that many games, all I said was that you guys don’t really have a solid backup. I know there are plenty of goalies that play more than 55 games. I just think that it’s going to hurt you guys this year.
