It's a bad precedent, yet another loophole the League allowed even though it had agreements that should have tempered cap circumventions like this.

Listen to a Hawks fan talking about loop holes... Patrick Kane magically was ready for the first game of the postseason to come off LTIR after doctors said he would be out for months, and then Vermette, Timmonen, and Desjardins keep his cap space warm in the meantime until the cap goes away in the playoffs.

It makes me chuckle inside to think that all Detroit got in this trade was losing out on Chychrun and another bad contract in Nielsen.

and don't forget, DeKeyser and Helm's extensions were signed that summer, too. gr8 way to fritter away that newly-minted cap space.
