Description
Marner and Kapanen are both on one year bridge deals and will get longer term when Marleau's contract is up.

For the Detroit trade. I really don't know if Jack Adams is any good. If he is, that trade is trash, if he's bad, it might go through because of Altonen as he is a solid prospect that'll likely make the Redwings team and because of the pick.

The second trade is pretty fair in my opinion. Bracco is the second best forward in the ahl this year, Brown is a solid defensive forward on a decent contract and Jhonsson is a top 6 left winger.

There might be peace for a better backup but I'd rather develop Woll and give him some NHL time behind Andersen.

Carolina isn't moving Pesce for more role players, they have more than enough of those. They're going to want Nylander, and it has been made very clear on this site that Leaf fans think that's an atrocious deal.

I don't want Nylander for Pesce. But I don't think Jhonsson is a role player anymore. He played on Matthews' for alot of this season. Bracco is a very skilled player that would make the Leafs third line and will most likely be a second liner. He dominated the AHL this year and would be great on powerplays. Thanks.fpr the feedback though.

To My Fellow Toronto Supporters:

STOP with the spare-parts-for-Pesce trades. It just damages our credibility.

And by the way: with Hyman's injury and doubtful availability for the start of the season (maybe even the first half), Andreas Johnsson becomes virtually essential.

The canes do need more offense and Jhonsson and Bracco could definitely produce quite a bit for them.

Why should. Marner and Kapanen rise their long term security by taking a one year deals? Holl in the NHL next year? This fascination for Pesce is obscene. Trading Zaitsev, Johnsson, Bracco a 2nd and 3rd.

You may be right about everything else. But I am quite sure about Marner being okay about taking a bridge deal. Im sure he knows he isn't going anywhere. Kapanen on the other hand may be right about.

No, I don't consider Johnsson a spare part, but the other three elements of your trade are -- a guy who has time only in the AHL is a spare part until he proves himself NHL ready and NHL top-6 quality.

Has nothing to do about Marner not going anywhere. He probably doesn't want to risk his long term financial security by taking a bridge. Screams offer sheet for sure....maybe for the same for Kapanen.
And it's not like the Leafs have a lot more money coming on following year, sure Marleau goes but other players want more $$$ too.

give me one good reason why marner takes a bridge after a 90 point season. nylander nor matthews took a bridge. whats his incentive to do so? and woudn't a 1 year contract like that take him straight to FA? im not 100% sure how it works. or worse if he's arbitration eligible after that 1 year?

I agree with it's crazy to to think Marner would take a one year deal. But the reason why see these suggestions, it seems the only way the Leafs are cap compliant in posts. I believe you are right that Marner would be eligible for arbitration next year. Marner still isn't eligible for another four year though. Few very players go this short term route, Trouba being one who has taken short term deals in order to be a UFA in the minimum amount of time.

isn't it better then to sign marner long term rather then go the arbitration route? IMO he was the leafs most consistent player all season. ima be honest, i thought he was a 60-70 point winger at most, but he's blown every expectation i had so props to him for that. arbitration could get real ugly, considering the leafs sign him on a 1 year deal worth 9mill. the next number is probably higher. troubas in interesting case. pretty sure he gets traded this offseason. maybe the leafs go after him. dont know what his ask will be though, but he would round out the leafs top 4 pretty well.

Detroit wants nothing to do with Zaitsev. Aaltonen 27yr old hasn't played one game in The NHL yet and probably never will. Jordan Subban has been in The AHL for 5 seasons and he hasn't played a game in The NHL. There is no reason for Detroit to do this.

Pesce train passed at TDL 2019. My take back then was Kadri + 1st for Pesce. Times have changed now. Pesce is out of TML reach or it will came way to expensive.

Better switch to Miller or Larsson or similar from teams that are in Cap trouble this offseason.

Can we stop with the ‘canes need more offense’ narrative? They have been perfectly fine 2nd half of season. In addition - every team in the league ‘needs more offense’.

The Canes generate a ton of offense from the blue line, and moving Pesce doesn’t seem like a great idea unless it returns a top 6 forward on a team friendly deal. I don’t see that here.

Yes, and let me supplement that by saying not just any top-6 forward. Just to mention two guys I see out here a lot, allow me to point out that Alex Iafallo and Alex Chiasson are "top line forwards."

Valid point - I was saying top 6 for the Canes, not for the team trading away the player.

As an example - I like Johnsson quite a bit, but does he push Aho, Teuvo, Nino, Staal, Svech, or Williams out of the top 6? Not to mention young talents like Foegele or the plethora of good forwards in charlotte.

I wanted to point out the misconception regarding ‘need more offense’ because it’s a lazy argument (no offense to poster).

You missed Ferland, Hamilton and Martinook who were all within touching distance of 20 goals, and with the exception of Staal for injury reasons, everyone you mentioned hit 20 (not Foegele) this also doesn't include guys like Wallmark and McGinn who seem to steep up in big moments. I also haven't mentioned Justin Faulk, Jaccob Slavin who can throw up points. Carolina don't need offence. Would another top 6 forward be desirable? Certainly. Is it worth it for Brett Pesce? No
