I mean yeah he can, but the real question is whether he should. I think he needs at least a year in the AHL to see if he can be as physically dominant against professionals as he is against teenagers.

Probably 9 games then back to junior, then maybe half a year in ahl, or crack a opening day roster in another year. I’m hoping they draft Byram and have a crazy blueline

Ottawa jumps all over that deal.

Also I don't think it's in Cozens best interests to be starting in the NHL

Eh, I wonder if he's ready to step out of junior, but you might be right. He's pretty much proven he can dominate at the junior level. I think he could really benefit from at least a year in the AHL, though. His game is all about bull rushing to the middle of the ice and plowing over people. I don't think he's going to be able to do that nearly as effectively in the NHL with guys like Hedman, Vlasic, Bergeron, etc. being able to stop him.

FWIW I'd be extremely relieved if Colorado took Cozens over Byram... I'm just an armchair scout but man Byram looks like a stud. Colorado would have the brightest future on the blue line in the league IMO if they took Byram.

Erik Johnson is nowhere near a cap dump. You could probably get a late 1st+ for him. As for Cozens, no, it seems like he’s a year away.

Yeah at 4th regardless of who the Avs pick they should give them some time to develop. No such thing as an over ripened player

All depends on who Chicago takes at 3, if they get the Russian, I think colorado goes Byram and lak dach and cozens falls to the wings at 6, but too early to tell

Johnson would be the best 2nd best Dman on Ott. That is one of the worst trades and rationales I have ever come across on this site.....sooo bad

and Cozens at 4 would be a disaster

I think they go Turcotte at 4 if Byram is picked at 3. Not sold at all on Cozens, would take Dach over him when it come to the WHL Fwds. Honestly would rather have Turcotte, Boldy, and Pod before Cozens

Don’t know much about turcotte and boldy and everybody keeps saying pod at 3, for some reason I c Byram at 4 after the success of makar and a carter replacement in dach, so turcotte gift to wings at 6 and boldy at 7 and cozens to the oilers at 8 that’s a gift there

really don't even know if Cozens hockey sense is developed enough for Pro Hockey, he checks off a lot of boxes position and skill wise in Junior hockey, but if there is concerns of how he processes the game, that is something you cant really learn or teach at a higher faster level. I would stay away from him at 4 IMO

Pod could fall, he didnt show well at the U18s and that is something you want to see a guy do against his own age group and draft class. Whats said of him being committed to the KHL for 2 more years, hes a good candidate to slide to the back end of the top 10.

Turcotte is a super smart 2 way Center, smaller guy but smooth in everything he does. If he was 6'1 vs 5'11 he would be a slam dunk for 3rd overall.
Boldy is a reach draft stock wise, but hes exactly the kind of guy Avs need, big 2 way defensive winger with offensive punch. Think Landeskog and Mark Stone light

I agree with all of that. Podkolzin also makes questionable plays sometimes that can really cost his team. He might have a top 5 ceiling in the draft, but I think he's an incredibly risky pick. Cozens is kind of the opposite to me, high floor, decent ceiling type. Reminds me in a lot of ways of Jake Virtanen, which isn't a good thing. I do think Cozens will at the very least be a 3rd line complementary scorer, but he'll probably need a dynamic playmaker feeding him the puck to be effective. Turcotte is going to be a stud wherever he ends up. His playstyle reminds me a ton of Sidney Crosby, but obviously he doesn't have quite the talent Crosby does.

That Johnson deal is hilarious. Ottawa takes that and hopes Sakic doesn't sober up by the end of the trade confirmation.

If the guy drafted with the Sens pick is a bust, I certainly won't lose any sleep over it tears of joy

But for real, I think Cozens should be one hell of player, it's just going to take a bit more work on the organization's end, as well as on the player's end. To me the guy to watch out for is Podkolzin. Not buying what he's selling at all. He's got skill, but something tells me he's going to be one of those guys who ends up staying in the KHL, that you only see at the Olympics

I was big on Cozens, but Turcotte has pasted him in my mind as of late. As great as Byrum is, the Avs have quality young blue liners (with Timmins still on the way), their need is a high end F prospect right now.

yeah I am very against Cozens right now, he doesnt seem to fit the Avs. You need to process the game fast to keep up with the current fwd group, thats why guys like Yak never panned out, all the skill in the world, but if you cant think the game at the NHL level doesnt matter how skilled you are

Assuming Hughes and Kakko go 1-2, my preferred prospect at #4 would be as follows: Turcotte, Cozens, Byram, Dach, Podkolzin.
