Bjugstad > Brassard
McCann = Sheahan (imo)
plus picks to FLA

A pretty fair deal honestly.

They also traded 3 picks including their 2nd, which is not much less than what Bjugstad is worth anyway, to upgrade their bottom 6 centers

Incredible trade by JR again. Got a good center with years left on his contract. And he kept the 1st rounder too. Love love love this trade

How is Bjugstad better than Brass? Harder to play against maybe but he scored 19 goals last year.... I just don't get it unless he's a corsi monster

It looks like a salary dump to me. That's the only explanation that makes sense.

Yeah, idk. They just got screwed out of Bjugstad they took a Rental and a few picks for a cap dump, and lose out on a great player in Bjugstad. Not a great trade for Florida imo.

I've been hearing Bjugstad this and Bjugstad that for so long now....... The guy is 26 years old. He isn't as good as some people make him out to be. Brassard is the better player despite having a bad season in Pittsburgh this year. Bjugstad is younger though so that easily makes up for it.

This is a pretty fair trade though. Pittsburgh got younger with more term. Panthers got picks and cap space. Florida can still move out Brassard and Sheahan for picks at the TDL if needed to only add to their return.

Frankly the only way Florida loses this trade IMO is if the keep both Brassard and Sheahan past the TDL because they ain't making the playoffs. The only way Pittsburgh loses this trade is if Bjugstad and McCann continue to play like they have this year. Its possible both teams can win or lose the trade at the same time though. Winning/losing isn't indicative of each other in this case.

Bjugstad hasn’t played C for a couple seasons. He’s been on the wing. He’s basically a 3rd line RW according to Corsica. He’s not a “great player” and has been on his way out for sometime now. They opened up cap space and got a 2nd rounder for him. FL opens up a little more room and they can actually be real players for a couple high end UFAs they’ve been linked to.

My guess would be that they intend to flip Brassard. Regardless, it looks like they're waving the white flag on next season.

Far from a lateral move. Improved the depth and got rid of people who weren't contributing and didnt fit their system

Ya but remember when Brassard landed Zibanejad and a 2nd? Or the time he got Gustavsson, Cole, and 22nd overall? flushed cheeks

brassard is the better player? I mean Bjugstad and brassard have similar stats id say thats very lateral ...... McCann is better but not by much and the penguins gave up a 2nd and 2 4th?

bc you seem to not understand the penguins dumped struggling players for struggling players both have similar numbers.... brassard career was the best player in the trade. penguins got younger ...it remains to be seen if they got better. btw that is the exact definition of lateral.

Brassard does not fit with the pens at all. He brings every winger down that plays with him. Bjugstad could come in and play exactly into the system and could elevate his game because of the system and players around him. Id take this trade 10/10 times for the pens. Draft picks mean nothing to the pens right now.

I'm not sure why Pens fans are so excited. Check out your cap space going forward. Gets a little scary unless they're actually going to trade Kessel in the offseason like they're always rumored to do.

They really aren't in THAT big of trouble. They could easily move out a defenseman or 2 and have cap space

well in a way you are right, but at the same time I think injuries has caused that. I think he could reach a next level type player if he gets the right group around which Pittsburgh might be able to do that.

again its a lateral trade like I said..... Bjugstad could come in and play well or hey can be a brassard 2.0. both are having terrible years and needed a new team. I don't think this trade makes the penguins any better today than they were yesterday unless Bjugstad turns into Bonino.

Agreed. Never know what will happen. People thought Brassard would crush it in pittsburgh, but hasn't. But id still do this move every time. They had depth issues and were too reliant on just 1 line. For all we know, Bjugstad could be paired with Malkin to get him going. But personally, I think the pens got better this season and possibly for the future too (depending on this offseason)

Johnson and Maatta will probably be moved out, but the real question is for what. People might not offer as much knowing Pittsburgh is in a bit of a pickle with cap situation. Might make it a forced deal that needs to be made. Might be something where someone takes advantage of Pittsburgh needing space this offseason, but then again if you move out Maatta and the extra 2.5M cap increase I think the team is fine.
