It's a possibility. I thought about it while doing this for the Kings. I think Jarry is a lock to be selected by SEA. There's other teams too that will have hard decisions to make. I do think the kings protect their young goalie and leave Quick unprotected. At 35 and being injury prone, I don't think SEA takes him...at least that was my reasoning.
I think i protected Doughty Phaneuf (won't waive) Martinez Kopitar Carter Toffoli Kovalchuk (won't waive) Pearson Kempe Amadio Peterson
I disagree. Jarry isn’t a lock to be selected by Seattle for several reasons.
1. Jarry is projected to be better than Murray and Murray will be due a huge raise while Jarry will probably be on a bridge contract (like the Fleury/Murray situation). If Jarry is anything close to Murray, they will opt to protect Jarry for cap space reasons.
2. With the possibility of several other quality goalies being available and the fact that the pens won’t be able to protect all their solid young skaters, it might be beneficial for Seattle to take a skater from Pittsburgh as opposed to a goalie. If no one gets traded by then, the pens will probably take the 7F, 3D, 1G route since Schultz will be coming off the last year of his contract.
Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, Hornqvist, Guentzel, Rust, Sprong, Letang, Dumoulin, Maatta, and Jarry (if he is anywhere close to Murray in regards to play). That will leave Schultz unprotected and to get a solid top 4 RHD (which many won’t be available as we saw with Vegas only being able to grab 2 RHD out of 11 and neither were really top 4). They’d have the cap to sign him and he’d probably be a reasonable sign for them.
3. Depending on how some of the up and coming prospects turn out, like ZAR, Blueger, Bengsston, Tiffels, etc, could make Hornqvist, Rust, and/or Sprong unprotected. Making them solid options too
