More and more I think the Canes are really the only contender that can offer the sharks what they need, cap relief.

I think there are a couple ways to structure this.

Simple way, Sharks retain $1.5m a year (I think this is far less retained salary than other teams could offer), but receive far less in compensation in terms of a decent prospect and draft pick.

Or if the Canes feel like I do....that Turbo is in decline and won't live up to his $5.4m this year, include him in the trade, reduce the retained salary, allowing the Sharks to be in great shape a year from now when Turbo is a UFA.

By taking on Turbo's contract, SJ can avoid longer term dead money, and next year when T is a free agent SJ is in a much better position with cap space.

This gives the appearance that Grier didn't just give Karlsson away...which frankly he needs to do if someone will take on EKs contract. The Canes appear to give away a decent player, but can put the $5.4 mil to better use in FA.

The draft pick is just a sweetener as other teams can offer up similar contracts to Turbo, but I'm betting they can't take on as much of the salary as the Canes.

I kind of can't believe I'm doing this, but I don't see where Pesce, who will be looking for a raise and long term contract is going to bring in a proven scorer at this point.

With EK trade, there is no longer a need to replace Pesce with a serviceable d-man, that can be done in FA.

So Buffalo I think can most use Pesce, so they can mortgage the future for a 'playoffs or bust' move.

If the 2nd 1st round pick is too rich (though I think you sell Buffalo on the fact that if they improve as expected, these are late 1st rounders), then a 2nd round pick will do.

Using the draft picks they gained from Sabres, turn around and use them for Konecny. Seems like a lot, but the Canes don't need multiple 1st round picks. Name the prospect to include, don't really care about that as long as it's not Morrow or Nikishin.

San Jose would want a different package than that I would imagine. More futures. Also I'd guess those trade packages for Pesce and Konecny are excessive.
