Description

1. Buyout Mrazek as his M-NTC will block certain deals that would have him being dumped to a non-contender.

2. Have Matthews, Tavarares, and Marner advertise to MAF that the Leafs would be a good fit then resign Campbell to figure out the goaltending situation. Campbell contract will not be that high because of his rough end of the season. Kallgren is sent back to the minors and Koskinen signs for near league minimum to go to a contender and will have inconsistent playing time.

3. With a bit of luck Robertson becomes a full-time top six forward on the last year on his ELC and sits on with the Leafs second line.

4. Colin Blackwell returns to Toronto to anchore that 4th line and is given more opportunity then he was in New York and Seattle. He completes a strong center core.

5. Klifford is sent back down to the minors to help mentor the Marlies and is called up when he needs to be called up.

6. Sign Bjugstad to provide some solid two way play and some physicality in the bottom six. He will help fill out a physical and hard working bottom six along with Blackwell and Engvall.

7. Resign RFA Sandin, Ljiligren, Engval, and Rubins. Scott and Duszak probably get league minimum deal

8. Swap Muzzin and Bailey which can help out both teams but more specifically the Islanders for numerous reasons.

9. Complete the Nylander trade which helps out both teams very much as it will allow Nashville to transition to their next competitive window and it will allow the Leafs to get cap space and some younger players.

10. Sign Matthew Knies to help out the big club in a middle six role. He could also be sent back to the AHL to fully develop.

Why would this trade happen?

While it would give Nashville some more depth up front and allow them to have more skill and scoring. Bailey would provide leadership to a team that is entering their next phase and Nylander is there so that the team remains competitive and is still selling seats. He is also a huge playoff preformer.

Toronto gets two big physical defenseman along with a depth forward as some of the complementary pieces and then it gets Glass a decent forward prospect that has yet to find his stride in the NHL and a potential middle six big body winger in Tomansino that probably never ends up being something special. The first is a loss for Nashville but they do have enough prospect for that to cushin the blow to their prospect pool. Nylander would also be a replacement to Phillip Forsberg who I am not optimistic that they will sign.

Muzzin has an extra year of term and a slightly higher AAV. Not to mention, his injury history has been worse than Bailey's as of recently. I'm ok with this trade but I'd want TOR to retain $625k of his cap hit so they are even for each team.

NSH isn't lacking in leadership, if that's the only reason your suggesting Bailey. And if NSH doesn't re-sign Forsberg, they're not going to trade young players and picks to find a replacement-- that's just too much to lose in one off-season for a guy that I don't have much faith would want to sign long-term in NSH (Nylander).
