Offseason Move
I see no point to moving John Gibson before his contract runs out, unless and until Lukas Dostal (or someone else) is ready to replace him from within.
We couldn't re-sign Hampus if we had traded him at the deadline. I think we'll make every effort to keep him.
We won't be, or have to be, paying more for Ryan Getzlaf next season than we are this season.
We'll probably pay Sam Carrick more than that, and I can't see us signing Reilly Smith for one year, let alone five, at that price or any other.
You forgot Sonny Milano, who is playing pretty well with Trevor Zegras and Troy Terry, and who makes Robby Fabbri redundant, especially at that hit.

Next years line-up
I think the ducks need to move Manson before the expansion draft. If they find a deal they won’t lose anything of significance. Manson still has decent trade value even if it isn’t the 1st rounder GMBM was looking for. If he gets moved all the young fwds can be protected and the 3 LHD, Lindholm Fowler and Fleury. If Manson isn’t moved they may be forced to go 4-4-1.
It sounds like if Eichel gets traded Reinhart will want out too. They should look at both of them. If Eichel’s price is too rich then Reinhart is still quality enough to go after. Personally I think the ducks need another top line fwd as I think Comtois and Terry shouldn’t both be top liners. I feel like they’re more 4th fwds that could handle top line but on a playoff team are more suited for 2nd line.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mytduxfan</b></div><div>Agreed, but you do have an elite 2-way 1C + a wealth of legit goal scoring wingers. Please tell me who on the Ducks is equivalent to ROR? or Schwartz? or Perron?. More importantly though, it is 9 games. I'd give it a little longer before I'd start claiming STL as proof that you don't need good players to be a contender. I'm pretty sure VK will jump you once they catch-up in games played and you're currently king of the weakest division in the league. Doesn't really mean anything when you'll ultimately be facing teams stacked with top-end talent. Your loss of elite talent in Tarasenko to injury and now Pietrangelo to trade is going to hurt you. I mean the former is probably largely the reason why you didn't get past the 1st round of the playoffs last year.</div></div>
I wouldn't call him elite, he's definitely not playing elite right now. Schenn and Kyrou are playing at more of an elite level than O'Reilly. He's a good presence but this is again where I say we are more of a good depth team Kyle Clifford, and Oskar Sundqvist on the 4th line both have 2 goals, O'Reilly doesn't have a single goal. I'm not saying you don't need good players you do, but you don't need star players. Because ROR, Schwartz, Perron aren't MacKinnon, Draisaitl, Stone, McDavid, Kucherov, Pastrnak, like these guys are lower down the board in their positions.
Ducks I still feel like they have more to offer, because while the team looks garbage. Manson, Lindholm, Fowler, Shattenkirk are no slouches. Rakell, Silfverberg, Henrique while not like amazing players they aren't completely garbage bottom feeder players. John Gibson is still arguably a Top 3 Goaltender in the league regardless of what happened against St.Louis. Troy Terry, Max Jones, Sam Steel, Jamie Drysdale, Trevor Zegras are really good young pieces to build around, so why not completely blow it up with the pieces you do have, get more draft capitol to build that prospect core up, and grow them right (I don't think Dallas Eakins & company is the right staff to grow a prospect group like this) which is why I would say blow up the organization and build it right, because what you had worked for a couple years, but Getzlaf, Perry, Kesler that's the old core and you have to make a transition from old to new. Anaheim isn't doing that right now. It's more they are optimistic on what could happen, and are holding on to the old identity that never found it's way. I personally think that you have a ton of talent in the minors you just need to grow them the right way around the right people. Getzlaf as a Mentor, or maybe even adding him into the organization to grow the team is probably a great step in the right direction of developing skaters.

That would be a reasonable return for a team in a "win now" mode where Larsson is considered the last piece necessary to get us over the top. But we're not in that position. Athanasiou answers no needs (RW or RD) and Larsson is a rental. Rakell for Ethan Bear and a second would be a good idea, except that Edmonton don't have a second until 2022. I would accept Edmonton's 2020 first and Raphael Lavoie for Rakell and our 2020 third.

Ducks Fans - RHD Options this Offseason
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mytduxfan</b></div><div>Maybe, but I've never been impressed with Cam's offence. His outlet pass is good, but that is on the transition which we all know he is excellent at. Once the team is setup in the O-zone, his lack of a threatening shot and average vision/creativity really shows. I don't think Fowler is bad offensively, but it's just not a strong part of his game. I think he's much better defensively, especially in this new-era of hockey which is faster and where more points are scored on the rush. Admittedly, if I had to choose, I think I would go with someone more defensive as a partner for Fowler, but that pairing is always just going to be lackluster IMO.
Fowler + Weber/Jones would be ideal. Someone who is a little slower in transition, but that brings a booming shot and can make up for Fowler's physical deficiencies. I think in future drafts, we should be going hard after a Weber/Jones-esq D-man, I'd be all over a D-prospect in this years draft if they had someone like a Provorov or Seider.</div></div>
I disagree with your dismissal of Cam's offensive abilities. Over the years I've seen him produce some amazing performances and this past season he led all Ducks defensemen in goals and points by a significant margin. You may not like his offence on a theoretical basis but he's the best we've got.

I agree that Anaheim would be a dark horse for Petro. The fit is there and it's definitely hard to beat living in Newport Beach and playing hockey for 7 years. But iirc ANA operates with an internal cap so I'm not sure if they'd shell out the $70m to put an offer together.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mytduxfan</b></div><div>Okay, perhaps your definitions make a little more sense i.e. 1st liner --> elite --> franchise --> generational. I often use "elite" to describe the very best players at their respective positions, but franchise might be better. In that case, I think we need a "franchise" C to become a real competitor and, probably, a franchise D. I'd be interested to here your thoughts on our prospects and their projected outcomes. For me:
Zegras - Elite 1st liner
Steel - mid-6er
Comtois - Elite 1st liner
Lundestrom - mid-6er
Jones - bottom 6er
Tracey - mid-6er
Terry - mid-6er
BOG - bottom 6er
Larsson - bottom pairing
Guhle - bottom pairing/AHLer
Mahura - bottom pairing
Thrun - bottom 4.
LaCombe - top 4D
Andersen - bottom pairing
The other thing I have difficulty with is that most of our guys are playmakers, which makes it very difficult to build a line-up that I'd feel comfortable saying is competitive. Rossi would be a great addition. Again, I'm not sure I see franchise C in him though. However, his scoring touch would be most welcome.</div></div>
I think Steel can be a good top 6 guy, same with Comtois, kind of like a Bryan Rust in PIT, solid top 6 forward, but if you find a line he fits well with he can be PPG, Mahura can be bottom 4, and as of RN, Thrun>LaCombe, I think both have top 4 potential, and yeah, we do have a lot of playmakers/TWF's... Comtois is probably the best goal scorer in the system...? if we can get Rossi, and hopefully find a guy later in the draft (MARAT possibly) that can be an elite winger I think we'd be fine with like Comtois-Rossi-x/Rakell-Zegras-one of Terry BOG Tracey Heinen or Milano/x-Steel-x, Comtois can be that Rust type on the first line (not many first lines have 3 elite players anyway, unless they don't have much depth) and Raks has shown he can be good when paired with an elite C, defense is tough, I def don't think we need a franchise d man, with Gibson, but unless Lindholm bounces back, we need a number 1 guy, preferably an RHD (Brandt Clarke) who can "shelter" a Thrun LaCombe or Mahura etc on the left, then have a very very good second pair with Lindholm-x (Manson maybe, maybe Fowler) and whoever isn't on the first pair on the left side is gonna be a stupid good bottom pair guy, rn at least I don't think we'll compete like BOS, with a loaded first line, we'll compete more like 1st year VGK, can run 4 lines and have 3 d pairs, get one or two guys like Gibby (MAF) and one of Rossi Zegras Comtois (or x) to play above their heads (WK) and compete from there (and hopefully proceed to fleece a team out of a top 5 player in the league bc Melnyk is too cheap to pay him)

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mytduxfan</b></div><div>Well maybe that's the problem here because I don't think Konecny is an elite winger. I mean, you're talking about a guy that has a max season point total of 61 pts with only 24 goals. For me, when you're talking about "elite wingers" you're talking about Panarin, Pastrnak, Marchand, Kane, Kucherov (and obviously Ovi)... guys who can produce 40+ goals and/or 90+ pts a season. I don't think Konecny is at that level and likely never will be. He's still a great top line winger, but not elite for me.
In any event, I don't believe we need an elite winger to win a cup. PIT never had an elite winger when they won, neither did LA. What they did have was a deep set of Cs fronted by an elite C. We don't have that yet. Although I believe Zegras is on a trajectory to become a top line C, I don't think he'll be elite. Hence, I think we need to another C. We should also continue to bolster the backend and hopefully find an elite option there too. Elite Cs make the wingers around them better. I'd rather be strong down the middle and compliment those Cs with competent wingers. Comtois could be a 30 goal scorer. If we add Rossi or Raymond this year, that gives us another option. Tracey could end up another top 6 option. We've got Milano, Terry, and could move Steel to the wing. Lots of options, just need to find chemistry. However, the whole premise is based on the idea that you have the top-end C talent.
It is shame that we missed on Ritchie. Can you imagine how we'd be if that was an Ehlers or Nylander!</div></div>
Those guys (other than Kane and Ovi) are franchise guys, I would guess most "great first line wingers" are probably elite imo
I agree, I'd rather have elite C's than W's, but we aren't giving up any elite C's here, and most teams win with two 1C capable players, which if we draft Rossi, we'll have... and most teams that do win have an elite winger (Pasta/Marchand, Oviish, Guentzel year 2, Kane x3, Datsyuk in 08 in DET etc)
sadness... and I thought Ritchie was really good (compared to most people)

New Series CBO - Flat Cap lottery simulator
I disagree with all four of your decisions.
1. As I've mentioned every time this issue has arisen, there is no need to buy Backes out. His cap hit is not a burden to us and due to the terms of his contract and the $1.5 million retention by Boston, we pay him only $2.5 million in the last year of his contract. At that price and cost, he's a perfectly acceptable fourth-line center.
2. There is no need to sign Anton Forsberg. If Ryan Miller decides to finally retire, Anthony Stolarz is a perfectly acceptable backup goalie.
3. As noted above, there is no need to sign Colin Blackwell as fourth-line center if we still have David Backes. Even if we didn't, we have so many center prospects that we wouldn't have to go outside the system to fill out the fourth line. If we DID decide to sign a free agent, it would certainly be Derek Grant for the same money.
4. Finally, Tyson Barrie is about the last defenseman we should be interested in. We need a defensive defenseman like Dylan De Melo or Radko Gudas, who would both be cheaper than Barrie, too. (Our most respected Maple Leafs colleagues generally agree that Barrie was Toronto's worst defenseman at defense this year.)

Flyers decline. They're trying to compete now, not a few years down the road. Picks and prospects don't really interest the Flyers, especially when it's for one of their best players who's on a great contract. Creative offer though. Not a typical recycled trade you see all the time on here.

Definitely not a contender. Too many young, unproven guys, in really high spots on this team. Use some of that cap space to sign some UFA's and then maybe you could build a contender. But their centre line up right now is awful. And the UFA pool this year can't really help with that.

Exactly.
It pretty much goes:
Tier 1:
Laf
Tier 2:
Byfield/Stutzle
Tier 3:
Drysdale/Rossi/Raymond/Holtz/Lundell/Quinn/Perfetti/Sanderson/Askarov in whatever order.
The only way I could see Drysdale making it to 6 is if Detroit or Ottawa goes crazy and takes Askarov at 4 or 5, but the Sens have a bevy of goaltending options coming, and Yzerman would have to go way off the board to do that, which I guess is what he did with Seider last year...
Either way, I really don't see him making it to 6, and I also wouldn't move all of those assets to move up 2 spots. If he doesn't slip, I wouldn't be opposed to moving 31 OA+Terry+Something for a decent RD (You're not getting anything great, but something stable would be nice).

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mytduxfan</b></div><div>It's close. I don't think Turcotte is a 1C at the NHL level. More of a very strong 2-way 1C/2C. If that turns out to be the case, that leaves the 1C open to Byfield, who brings NHL size and good skill.
Stutzle is also a very good pick. However, again, I question him as an NHL 1C. He's certainly the safer pick, but the payout on Byfield if he pans out would be huge. He'd be a franchise C of the level of Kopitar/Getzlaf.
Anyway, Congrats and hopefully you get the prospect you want.</div></div>
Stutzle would be playing LW, we need a winger and he can do that. Byfield can't. Some Kings fans say Turcotte will be the next 1C, however I believe Vilardi is our next franchise centerman. Either or, Byfield won't be much better than them.
