      Thanks for the feedback.

I could see the attraction of Anaheim. They'll likely be able to offer more money than most teams, have a giant need for a RHD, and the team plays in a nice city (certainly nicer to live in than somewhere like Calgary or Winnipeg who might be other big competitors to sign him).

One think not to overlook, perhaps only a small candle in the wind but still, a fact: this team's actual payroll is about $10 million less than its cap total.* That would permit a front-loaded contract that other teams might not be able to provide.

*saving you the effort: Getzlaf, Fowler, Lindholm, Backes and Gudbranson all have massive differences between cap hits and compensation this year

That's a very interesting factor, and could be a big deal this offseason. The fact that Anaheim have plenty of roster flexibility with Getzlaf and Backes contracts expiring soon would be an attraction as well, as it suggests that Anaheim can be a player in trades and in free agency in the first few years of Pietrangelo being there. It could become a very attractive destination for players again if Pietrangelo were to join, particularly if the prospects hit their ceilings.

As you know from the contemporaneous Toronto thread, some teams are restricted in their avenues of improvement. (About all the MapleLeafs can do to upgrade somewhere is trade some combination of Johnsson, Kerfoot and Kapanen; they don't have attractive prospects or multiple draft picks.) In contrast, Anaheim has a surplus of left-handed forwards and left-handed defensemen, and a wealth of prospects in the system or pipeline. For example, you don't show Isac Lundestrom or Braden Tracey on this construction, and there are other assets on the farm, too.

There is no competition for Pietangelo at 10m. Way too much in cap flat league. Few attractive teams to Pietrangelo could even pay him 8m
Carlsson of Washington got 8m. Doughty and Erik Karlsson are now overpaid at 11m and 11.5m

I think $9m - $9.5m is probably the sweetspot for a competitive team to sign him (those teams being Colorado, Winnipeg, or St. Louis).

I think Anaheim is a sleeper team for Pietro... SoCal and he can basically get whatever contract he wants...

GMBM did say he was going to make a splash this offseason 👀

I agree that Anaheim would be a dark horse for Petro. The fit is there and it's definitely hard to beat living in Newport Beach and playing hockey for 7 years. But iirc ANA operates with an internal cap so I'm not sure if they'd shell out the $70m to put an offer together.

With Eaves contract expiring and Kesler still on LTIR our cap space is at a comfy spot. Meaning we can dump Del Zotto, Larsson, and Irwin. Could see Murray dropping few other guys too

We'll never sign him for this reason, especially when the team is struggling to draw crowds like they are right now. He'd be a welcome addition though. I think his game is ideal for a long career at the top, so a 7 year contract doesn't scare me. Not sure we'd be a prime destination from him though.
