I disagree with all four of your decisions.
1. As I've mentioned every time this issue has arisen, there is no need to buy Backes out. His cap hit is not a burden to us and due to the terms of his contract and the $1.5 million retention by Boston, we pay him only $2.5 million in the last year of his contract. At that price and cost, he's a perfectly acceptable fourth-line center.
2. There is no need to sign Anton Forsberg. If Ryan Miller decides to finally retire, Anthony Stolarz is a perfectly acceptable backup goalie.
3. As noted above, there is no need to sign Colin Blackwell as fourth-line center if we still have David Backes. Even if we didn't, we have so many center prospects that we wouldn't have to go outside the system to fill out the fourth line. If we DID decide to sign a free agent, it would certainly be Derek Grant for the same money.
4. Finally, Tyson Barrie is about the last defenseman we should be interested in. We need a defensive defenseman like Dylan De Melo or Radko Gudas, who would both be cheaper than Barrie, too. (Our most respected Maple Leafs colleagues generally agree that Barrie was Toronto's worst defenseman at defense this year.)
