If I could get Stone to sign an extension.... then I would have to see the money and how it would affect cap next year... but I may go for that.

I like Gardiner and think he would be a great fit in STL, we do not have much depth at all on LD. But as a rental I don't think he is worth too much. But I think it's a realistic possibility that we could sign him here. We have two decent young LD in Edmundson and Dunn, but past that we have Gunnarson and Jaybo, both of which are UFA. I would much rather have Gardiner there. We will see.

I agree with you and I think Allen is a prime candidate for a change of scenery. I like Boone Jenner, but we don't really need another Center, I also think the Schenn is an awful lot to give up for a rental. To be honest, I don't think it will cost that much to get him as a rental. If you can sign him, that may be another story. But I have not heard any rumors of Jackets being interested in Schenn. I really do think the possibility of Bobrovsky coming to STL are possible. But I think its more of an Allen, and a lower tier forward like Sanford, Barbashev, Fabbri type of guy. Unless you can sign him, then you can move that up to a top tier prospect or forward from the Blues.
Always wondered if Jackets would be interested in Steen if we pay part of the contract. Steen likes the hard nosed coaches like Tort, has familiarity with your GM (from STL) and knows Brad Shaw well. Probably wishful thinking on my part, but I can dream.

I still think Petro will go to Leafs...could be in off season though. Problem for Blues is if they trade him, they have to replace him. They have no one would can replace him now. And although I agree with what you say to a certain extent, I don't think they would do it unless they had a replacement. I like Gardiner and Lil, not sure we have much use for Hyman. And yes, Blues want Kapanen, doesn't mean we would get him. Apparently they asked for Nylander and Leafs said no.
I was envisioning a trade of Petro to Leafs and then a trade involving Schenn to Hurricanes for Hamilton.

Duchene to St Louis
Let's be clear.....There is no way the Blues are going to give any of the previously named "top 4" for ANY rental. Not going to happen, end of discussion. Now...for a guy they could sign in the deal....that's another issue. Not sure Duchene is that guy though as they said.....maybe Stone....

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>STLBlues17</b></div><div>Big summer coming up. Either they double down on the core or they change it.</div></div>
Completely agree. Jeremy Rutherford has consistently said that no matter what this team does (unless they win it all!) the core still needs to change. I think because of their success most of these bigger trades that concern changing the core will now most likely happen in the off-season. I think it's still realistic that Petro and Schenn are still dealt, Steen if possible. And I think Armie will find a way to dump Allen, somehow, someway. We will see.

I believe the thinking of what to do with this team has completely changed. I think it's pretty evident the defense is back to playing the way they should. Also, we are getting solid goaltending. I'm not going to fall for the "Binnie is the elite goaltender we've been waiting for" crowd. I've seen to many young goalies come through here and look good and then falter (Allen, Johnson, etc.) But he is getting the job done, so let's hope it's not the usual case for the Blues. Sooner or later you have to hit on one right?
Point being, i think your strategy at the deadline has changed. I think it's pretty evident this team still needs "finishers." At least once, maybe twice, per game we always seem to miss a side open net or a great chance ( see Schenn, Barbie on 2 on 1, and the 3 on 1 and 2 on 1 we had in OT and didnt even get a shot). Obviously Perron will help when he comes back, but it would be nice to have another finisher (is 2 wishful thinking?). Stone would be that and then some. Plus the PP is weak, need a guy who can help as well there.
It will be interesting to see what happens. I would think the trading of Petro and Schenn would be a little less likely now, but you never know. The Blues have shown interest in Dougie Hamilton for awhile now. He would also help the PP, but i dont think you make that trade unless you trade another Dman. Ottawa wanted Fabbri before, i would assume there would still be interest in him now. Maybe he would be in a deal for Stone if it would go down.

That whole "open for business" was a month ago when they were last place in the Western Conference. Now....things have most definitely chgd. Don't get me wrong, I may still take a 2nd for Barbie, but Sunny is going no where. If I were Blues I would have interest in Gardiner....but realize you would need D back. Or would you get that from Carolina? Still think Petro is an option there.....

Hmmm... interesting from a Blues perspective. I dont know much about those young players... but were talking 2 young D and a young forward..... AND a first.... Spooner and Reider for salary purposes, although Spooner intrigues me. He really succeeding everywhere til this year. So maybe a good reclamation project, only 1 year after this year. And Reider an RFA after this year. I like Talbot going to COL, so we can go get Bob after the trade ;)
I have to seriously consider this trade... if these young guys are upper tier prospects i think you have to highly consider this deal.

Bobrovsky
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Larkinisking</b></div><div>St Louis is barely treading water right now, Bobrovsky would be foolish to waive his NMC to go there. Even with Bob St Louis would face a 1st round exit. Bob if dealt should be traded to a team that he can help win a cup. And that's definitely not St Louis.</div></div>
Lebrun reported that Bob would want to come to STL already. I do believe the Blues would be willing to pay Bob what it takes. As someone said, they have had a problem with Goaltending for YEARS! If they can find someone that can provide the solution, I think they would do it. As far as Schwartz... We love him here... but the dude just cant stay healthy and isnt producing at all this year. I will say we are pretty weak at LW.... the young guys you speak about are mostly RW. BUT I think you would have to seriously consider giving up schwartz to do this.. you can always move Perron to LW if need be.
As far as the Blues treading water.... they have been playing MUCH better since Mid-Dec..... but we just havent had the goaltending. Binnie comes in and has provided good consistent play and he is 5-1-1. SO I think that tells you all you need to know. Blues have Jaybo and his $5.4 coming off.... if you trade Schwartz thats another $5m+... would have to find someone to take Allen and his $4m+ (prob have to retain some there). I would hope a team like Flyers (who have been reported to have interest) might find him useful to share the load with a young guy for a couple of years until he is ready to take over.
I really think Allen is the epitome of a guy who needs a change of scenery. The dude is one of the best goalies on the road, but sucks at home. I think he is a good goalie....not great, but can play elite (remember statistically he was the best the second half when Yeo took over), he isnt as mentally tough as one would like. But I think a change of scenery would do him wonders.

Blues 2019 after 2018 Trade with TOR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>rja40</b></div><div>Another thing...Petro stated on a St. Louis radio station that he'd like to go to Toronto if he ever got the opportunity. If the Leafs acquire him, I'd argue he'd stay unless they just ridiculously underbid his next contract. He might actually take a slight discount to play in his home town to stay on a loaded team with real cup promise.</div></div>
Well....It's a lot less likely to happen now that the Leafs got Muzzin. Definitely in season, Petro isnt going anywhere. I could still see in the off-season. I dont want another Shatty situation, but it looks like we are going to have one. I dont think the Blues want to commit the years and money it will take to keep him here, we will see.

Blues 2019 after 2018 Trade with TOR
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BeastModeUnknown</b></div><div>Now you are very funny. Sanford isn't going the other way. I will now actually say that a Toronto deal will not get done if people undervalue pietrangelo, I get you don't want a 29 Year Old Defenseman, but come on now he is worth that. He will also want to stay because he is from the Toronto area. You are bogus hoping Toronto wins every deal. Just face the simple fact a deal isn't going to be happening between these 2. Especially not Parayko because your offers a god awful for him too.</div></div>
I completely agree here. Alex P may not be a Norris trophy Dman (but very well could win won in the coming years), but he is easily considered one of the top 10 in the NHL. To think that you are not going to have to give up something good is ridiculous. Every trade with Petro needs to start with a good young roster player and a top end prospect and a pick. Most I have seen is Kapanen and Liljegren and a first. I believe this is fair. Also, on a side note, I think Sanford has some value to, i dont see him being a throw in.

Re-tool 2nd take
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BluesGetTheCup</b></div><div>No on the Carolina trade. Also quick note, Dunn hasn't regressed. Not sure why people think he has. He might make some boneheaded plays sure, but he's our best offensive defenseman. Not sure why the Leafs give up Gardiner cause he's a rental (or why we get him) and moving Kyrou for Bob is a non starter.</div></div>
Completely agree with the Dunn statement. I just read something where the analytics show that Dunn has actually improved a little over last year. Yes bonehead and lazy plays, but overall better. Another reason I chose Edmundson. I get the Carolina trade as well, i did say it may be a little of an over payment. But as <a href="/users/BeastModeUnknown" target="_blank">@BeastModeUnknown</a> says, maybe concentrate just on Hamilton and do Schenn+
The Gardiner thing... that's a matter of opinion. Right now it's no secret we are weak at LD. I like Dunn, but Edmundson I'm not to sure about, your probably losing Jaybo and gunnar. Small possibility on bringing Gunnar back on a very short term deal, but regardless we need some depth. Why would Toronto get rid of him? They may not be able to resign him with their cap situation. Why would we take him? See the need for depth on the left side, of course I would hope for an extension.
Bobrosky. I get this one would be a hot topic because of Kyrou. To each their own on the goalie situation. Some people want to dump Allen and just ride Binnie. Some want to dump Allen and replace with another "middle of the road" goalie. Some want to bring in a veteran to play a couple year to give time for Binnie and Husso (maybe even Fitzpatrick) to develop and see what they can do. My opinion - if you can get an elite goalie when you've been searching for an answer in goal for.... well, forever.. then you do it. Again, giving up Kyrou would be if you re-sign him. If you dont, then you give less. IF you can get an elite goalie, you are going to have to give to get. The addition of Kapanen would soften the blow on this as well. I like Kyrou and I hope he turns out, but you cannot depend on your top prospects to develop into elite talent. We've been there and done that many times to. If there is one thing that is the Achilles heel of the Blues, it's goaltending. You have to have consistent goaltending in this league if you are going to win and we havent had it for years.
If no Bob, then i vote for bringing in a veteran to hold the fort while the youngsters develop and hope (the for the umpteenth time) that one of them turn out.

Bouwmeester might provide a little bit of talent they would rather try for Edmundson or Dunn. I love the Toronto trade. Bobrovsky not so much. We are giving up so much for a Half-Year Rental. I wouldn't give up Kyrou in that deal maybe a 3rd. I think you are overpaying for Hamilton. Schenn+ a little extra could get the job done. I think Edmundson and Fabbri and add in a pick and a smaller prospect. Not so sure Boston wants Blais knowing they have a lot of WIngers.</div></div>
To me, I think Jaybo is going to be traded for a 3rd to someone. I just picked Montreal cause they need D, but so do a lot of other teams.
Kyrou is ONLY given up if we can sign him, if not, then a lower prospect like Stevens. People have said Schmaltz, but I dont think his value is that high.
I was really thinking about the Hamilton deal.... Just figured Edmundson was expendable with Gardiner, Lauzon coming in. But I agree with you. Ferland was added to try and make it more even, plus he would add more depth.. if we are able to trade Steen this would be ideal. I think we all know Schenn is going to be traded.... just didnt think Schenn and a prospect was enough, but all for it if it does. If it is, you can still use Edmundson for trade bait somewhere else.
I really like the Lauzon kid, dont think it would take too much to get him, I'm all for changing that to someone else.

Also, people need to stop with the buyout stuff. Blues are not going to buy anyone out, that's just something they dont do. They are not going to sign someone to a 3 year deal and buy them out the next year. I get that Bozak makes to much money and they would have never signed him if they had traded for ROR beforehand, but that doesnt mean they will buy him out. He is what he is, they had to overpay, thats what free agency is all about :)

I am one that is all for going after Bob. I like that deal, just not sure if it will be enough. I think ideally you want to resign him. In that case, you would have to give up a lot more, but it may be worth it. I would be ecstatic if that is all we would have to give up for him. I just think it will take more. I dont think Schmaltz is that attractive right now and not worth much. I think this is where Stevens or a prospect with similiar value would be going. Unless you resign him... then it would take much more (see my proposals- retool - 2nd take)
