I'd be fine giving up Sanford if the deal is worth. This deal is far from worth it, however. Besides, if Blues move Petro they need a guaranteed 1st round pick instead of a conditional one.

You can probably keep Sanford and have the guaranteed 1st but we need some salary retention and/or to send zaitsev in the package (or for us to move big salary in a separate deal)

Fair enough. Zaitsev is a possibility in taking.

I just think their is something Sanford has been showing this year that I would like to see him stay and get the chance to prove he is a valuable player for us.

I get we need to take salary, but i wouldnt take Zaitsev .... 5 more years of that? I can see them doing it, but i wouldnt want that on my books for that long. I'd rather give up more than do that. And remember, Toronto could make another trade to free up salary so we dont have to take it. (Nylander to Carolina or something like that)

Completely agree with this, I like what he brings, i would rather trade Fabbri at this point then Sanford. I hope Fabbri can come back to normal next year, but its by far not a guarantee.

I just would really rather stay away from Zaitsev. I could see it happening, but really dont like to have another 5 years of that contract. Was hoping Leafs could shed salary with another trade.

I am one that is all for going after Bob. I like that deal, just not sure if it will be enough. I think ideally you want to resign him. In that case, you would have to give up a lot more, but it may be worth it. I would be ecstatic if that is all we would have to give up for him. I just think it will take more. I dont think Schmaltz is that attractive right now and not worth much. I think this is where Stevens or a prospect with similiar value would be going. Unless you resign him... then it would take much more (see my proposals- retool - 2nd take)

I don't think the Blues have any interest in Zaitsev. They'd have Edmundson, Dunn and Bortuzzo on the left and Parayko, Perunovich and Liljegren on the right for the foreseeable future. I think Sanford has some potential too but not as much as Kapanen and I don't see Toronto wanting Fabbri until he proves himself again. This leaves the Blues with loads of cap space going into next year and they can lock up players like Schenn instead of trading them. The only place you can put Sanford in this lineup is in Steen, Bozak or Fabbri's spot. Bozak is not going to get traded. I can't see the Blues already bailing on Fabbri. And nobody is going to take Steen's contract unless the Blues eat a bunch of it and I dont see them doing that. If anyone is taking those three spots I would rather see it be Kyrou, Bokk and Kostin. This trade gives Toronto the best shot they've had at a cup in a long time.
