I can think of reasons why the Leafs wouldn't draft Matthews, but I whoever they draft, I don't understand your statement "handing the keys to an American born player". Is Laine a Finn, "handed the keys instead"
Leafs fan, any knowledgable hockey fans, know that on a roster of 23 players no one player is "handed the keys". In a professional sport where there are large number of nationalities represented, a players nationality is almost meaningless. Unless you're talking specially about Toronto sports fans, yeah the fans hate that Baustica is from the Dominican Republic, Stroman from New York, Osuma from Mexico.</i></div></div>

Maybe he is suggesting they trade the pick? Otherwise his comment makes no sense.</i></div></div>

I should have put (lol) after my comments. I dont think Toronto really cares if an American leads their team to the promise land but my point really was that Laine just might be the better player and the Leafs take him instead.

Looks like that but while I always thought Mason was an upgrade from whatever they had before, he just isnt the goalie that takes them to the next level, hell Columbus sure didnt think so. Also Masons contracts ends next year and do you re-sign him, let him go or trade him? Is he the future in Philly? This AGM thinks not.</i></div></div>

That WPG deal though is horrendous. I would give up any 1 player in the league for those 3 guys combined. Wheeler is very good and Hallebucyk has potential but come on.</i></div></div>

The WPG deal is based on the assumption that Hellebucyk is a number one stud goalie, which is what I heard. Being a armchair GM has its limitations, You don't really know the kind of information someone like Hextall has. I hate giving up Ghost but if I were WPG and was trading a #1 stud goalie I would probably want more than what I offered including Ghost. As far as Jake goes I just want to be rid of that horrible contract.
