Rangers Made for Playoffs
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockey101</b></div><div>Why overpay free agency when you get a player you know from Tampa to fulfill a checking role? Not that it matters much for this scenario as I said Goodrow would be traded to whatever team.</div></div>
Depends on what SY is looking for. Trading for Goody is honestly the same thing, just without losing the 4th. He is a decent bottom 6 player, but the knock is that he is overpaid. I would imagine a surprise team trades for him as their form of "overpaying a free agent." I will add though the fact he is known from TB is a good point. Adam Erne 2.0 lol

Panthers Trying to Trade Bob
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockey101</b></div><div>Thank you for a very well thought out reply and giving a different perspective. I think you are undervaluing what the Panthers are giving away and how badly the Caps need a goalie. Free agency is not offering an exceptional goalie. Kuemper may be worth a shot, but if he wins the Cup the Avs may pay up to keep him. If not them, someone else and over $6M I don't think that he is worth it for five years. The rest are all backups with the exception of Campbell who will likely re-sign with the Leafs. No goalie is really available on the trade market, at least at a worthwhile price.
So the Caps can address this glaring weakness by acquiring a goalie and getting extra in return because the Panthers really want to deal him (although I would keep him one more year). In return they also get a very good scoring winger, and a very good prospect that can blossom on that team, and they need some scoring youth.
In the end, they give up an expensive winger who did not really fit in, a back up which they don't need, and a depth player that by all means, as you said, is valuable but not irreplaceable. That for a very good prospect, a solid goalie, and a scoring winger with speed.
I think it's worth it.</div></div>
I definitely get your point about the goalie market. I do think however that there is no guarantee duclair would fit in any better than Mantha, who hasn't been incredible but has been pretty solid in DC. Duclair played with Barkov the entire year and was a scratch and playing 12 mins a night in the playoffs -- he could easily be the next Vrana. I just think this version for the caps doesn't definitively solve any of their problems. There is no guarantee that they get good Bob for any of the four years despite theoretically paying him like a top 5 goalie in the league. The Caps need <em>more</em> top 6 players not different ones, and its unclear that Duclair is actually an upgrade on Mantha. Hathaway is by no means irreplacable but moving him does open up another hole in the roster that would need to be addressed in FA. And while Denisenko is a fine prospect, I don't think he is ready to make a big impact in the NHL next year and isn't a cant-miss guy that pushes the caps over the edge on this one.

NYR Acquiring Eichel Scenario
Sabres wouldn't accept. But I really don't think Rangers need to pull off an Eichel trade, anyway.
Strome has maintained a strong level of play (with and without Panarin). Zibenejad found his game in tremendous fashion. And Chytil gradually continues to improve. With those Top 3 Centers set (amidst a group of youngsters that have drastically improved over the course of this shortened Season), they really don't need to make a move.
Keep all the pieces together (with Lundkvist, Jones and Barron joining the party soon) and stay the course. After 21-22, when they debate whether to keep Zibenejad and Strome, then perhaps they can contemplate a Center trade when there is a greater need.
Also a possibility Hertl (meh) and Barkov (YESSSS!!!) could hit Free Agency and become options to bring in without pulling off a trade.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockey101</b></div><div>Why would Florida trade Weegar to get another LD from Toronto? Where would Weegar fit on Toronto?</div></div>
?? I didn't trade or suggest trading another LD for Weegar.
If you mean in terms of cap, the Leafs would have to make other moves for sure. If you mean in terms of in the lineup, I'd play him with Rielly, personally, but a Muzzin Weegar pairing would be fine, too.

Reshaping Panthers v40
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockey101</b></div><div>Good luck getting a reliable starting goalie and having the cap space. If they are trying to unload Saad's salary, what do you think they'll do....re-sign him? Makes no sense.
Who do you think they can go for in terms of goalies? Plenty of options, but pricey too.</div></div>
The Hawks GM already stated they are going with our young goalies Delia and Lankinen, so it is what it is. Do I like it? Of course not, but it is. So that means only $2M will be spent on goaltending.

Reshaping Panthers v30 Revisiting Laine
Florida should get a little more as Ekblad is the most valuable piece in this trade. As for the defense you go out and get Petro or offer sheet a young RFA (highly unlikely).

I don't think Florida can afford to move Ekblad. They have nothing to replace him.

Zaitsev Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockey101</b></div><div>At this stage Zaitsev isn’t worth a 1st rounder. Your cap space is also too low. But, the ideas are good in terms of how to get things moving.</div></div>
1st rounder? If you mean 5th rounder, I see where you're coming from. I do not think Zaitsev is very good, but when listening to TML fans, they say that could be a lot better if he was playing in a role he was more suited to, which is the best explanation for his really good "rookie" year. I think Detroit would give him an opportunity to play in the more offensive role he could accel in. Therefore, I think Detroit may be willing to move a lower pick to acquire someone who could potentially help them now and in the future.
As for cap space, they can build a 23 man roster that's under the upper limit. One thing that may work is if they trade Brown for a pick, therefore not taking any money back and spending it on re-signing Ron Hainsey, who would likely be cheaper. I'd rather have Benning than Hainsey though, even if he is like 500k more

Hughes Zucker Kovalchuk Karlsson
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockey101</b></div><div>Kovalchuk is a disaster on the team if he doesn’t get ice time and is useless to have for a team that will need to rebuild this coming year. Shattenkirk is weak on D, but a change of scenery could help and allow him to be a factor on offense an Doughty wouldn’t be relied upon too much.</div></div>
Shattenkirk is a powerplay D and that is it. McLellan has to understand that Kovi is offense first, second and third. He might play a little but that is what you knew going in to a contract with him. Use him the correct way, not forcing him to do something he doesn't.

I'm not saying 1 for 1 but a package but a package including Keith. I don't see Seabs moving on. He has clearly said he wants to be with the Hawks organization even after his playing days. Keith is a different story. Another player is Anisimov. Coach Q loves leadership and bringing in a guy like Keith makes a lot of sense knowing Q and Tallon.

Improved RHD position worse forward depth
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>hockey101</b></div><div>Can’t operate on such a low cap space for an entire season. A day to day player would need a call up and you wouldn’t be able to do it.</div></div>
Yeah, I know, it's tight to the cap and so not entirely realistic. Mostly wanted to see what could fit under the cap assuming the ideal RHD targets (Pesce) aren't available (I really can't see Carolina moving him at this stage). As suggested above, more likely that the Johnsson/Niskanen trades don't happen and Dubas goes fishing for a depth RHD instead.
