Dont think Ottawa or Nashville or Winnipeg say yes.
WPG doesn;t want a long term 5mil player playing as poorly as Rakell
Reilly has pretty bad value now, and at 5mil hes a big pill to swallow
Chyrchrun for Karlsson alone doesn;t work capwise (or for 90% of the clubs), let alone they add picks
4 new starting dmen and still no youth on team.....

EDM probably doesn;t go higher than a 1st and 3rd, but even then I cant see it happening. PHI has cap space but they have Petersen at 5mil, and while they might buy him out, I can;t see them buying him out and then taking on Campbell.
PHI might be tempted but they currently have errson, fedotov, kolosov, petersen, (with Hart as RFA), and a few really high prospects, so for a 1st and 3rd they might be tempted.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Roperttos</b></div><div>They have a good amount of young players but they still lack the high end potential which is the issue. Very true, but its not a foregone conclusion that NJD/PIT/WAS/DET/OTT/etc... sort it out and surpass them next yr. They lack high end talent, but foertser, brink, frost, cates, farabee, york, drysdale, errsson, etc, didnt have HUGE years.... could get better. And andrae, tuomaala, barkey, etc... could contribute.
Ultimately the Flyers were 3rd in Metro all yr long even with Hart/Gautheir dramas and injuries, so its a leap to think that those other teams develop/cure their ills and PHI doesn;t.
Besides signing a Stephenson/Dumba at 29 yrs old for less than 5mil and still have 5-8mil in cap space and alot of extra high picks in the next few drafts (as well as expiring cap cows in Petersen/Atkinson) allows some creativity. Maybe PHI doesn;t address 1C this yr, but waits out for Draisatl or another big option.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Roperttos</b></div><div>This is the opposite what they should be doing IMO. Currently they have no solution to getting a 1C and they are going to be in an extremely competitive conference with NJ, Buffalo and Red Wings all being teams that missed and will be looking to get into the playoffs.</div></div>
Mostly true, but Phily (who lost 2 of their top 4 dmen and their starting goalie) still came within a pt or 2 of the playoffs themselves with largely a team of young guys. While they lack a 1C or a Crosby/Makar in the immediate future, they have a deep pool of young/young-ish guys so counting on NJ or DET or BUF surpassing them isn;t a forgone conclusion.
Adding a good second tier center or defender who has 2-5 good years left is both within their cap and their rebuild.

Still think even after those moves, that they use that cap space. Chandler Stephenson at 2C/Couturier at 3C/Poehling at 4C or a solid vet defenseman at 4ish mil to pair with a kid like OEL, Dumba, etc... (or both)
Sanheim-Drysdale
OEL-York
Zamula-Risto
Seeler
They'll buyout one of Atkinson or Petersen, but doubt they have one in minors, so my money is on Petersen buyout and trade Atkinson at 50% for a late round pick, which leaves closer to 13-14mil in cap space

I dont know if you get that value back really. For example, expiring Liljegren isn;t getting 2 2nds back. As a 6th/7th year pro he hasn;t established himself in Toronto's top 4 (a team that annually has to acquire 2 or more defensemen at the TDL) or Kampf who is a bit overpaid for a 4C....etc....
But ultimately, whats the point if your defense has one guy capable of 30 pts or those 2 are your goalies? (Not to mention HIGHLY dependent on Cowan, Hildeby, Webber to be ready, because the rest of the team is just a yr older).
And I like Benoit, but you cant have a 2nd pairing guy who put up 5 pts in 66 games on the second highest scoring team in the league, (or pair him on 2nd pair with another guy who contributes very little on offense)

Ummmm, you're forgetting that he:
Klingberg - 4.2mil ridiculous
Bertuzzi - overpaid
Reaves - overpaid
Kampf - overpaid
Samsonov - inconsistent
then like his predecessor had to go out at TDL and acquire 2 starting dmen (giving props for addressing a problem they've had all year?)
Still 3rd in own division and defense/goaltending still looking shaky
Still capped out
Just seems like you're giving props for really same result (Dont get me wrong Dubas was bad), but I dont really see a better team this year
And regardless of 23-24 results, you're really rolling out the same flawed team, maybe worse?
And you really think a TDL acquisition at 31 yrs old, a expiring UFA making 3.75mil really stays in TOR for 3 yrs at 1.5mil? Or that an 18 skater team is a step forward? Or Holmberg not just becomes a fulltime NHLer at 24-25 yrs old, but is a quality 3rd liner?

Maybe....
You're probably too low of Benoit, robertson, jvr and Roy (400k, 300k, 500k and 1mil) and some of that is offset by the overpayment to Kylington, but I think you're being a bit too hopeful on your returns on some of your trades - some of which are just small cap dumps of players who've had bad yrs (Jarnkrot getting a 3rd back, Kampf getting a 4th, etc...).
But ultimately, thats a gigantic leap on what is just 6 dmen that Kylington and Liljegren are 2nd pairing guys on a contender and theres no cap for a 7th dman.
Or that Blackwood-Woll are good enough, consistent enough, healthy enough.
Or that this team above is better than this yrs.

difficult at best, with no 7th dman, just 30k in cap and some marginal underpayments.
Even small differences/realities ruin the cap:
Benoit is a RFA with rights, so 900k is too light
Toffoli and Domi are probably both in line for more than whats offered above, especially on long term deals
Liljegren is about right IMO, but doubt he signs for 4 yrs
ANd that goaltending looks like a cheapening out and ignored at best

Why would DOmi sign long term in an ANNUALLY JUMPING CAP for what hes making now?
WHy would 31 yr old Edmundsen, who's making 3.75mil take 2mil long term?
There are only 3 quality UFA centers and stephenson has been criminally underpaid, so 4mil is way too light
And why ignore goaltending? Wedgewood/Jones/Woll (because of injuries) is not a good/consistent net

Very true, but for 60 pts you shouldn;t be looking at a 9mil cap hit, thats why I dont think he has value ALONE. You'd have to take a cap dump or add something or value for someone to take that, and ultimately theres players with higher upsides or youth not getting in there.
The fact that Mittelstadt was a agonizing decision to trade a 60+ pt player 24 yr old partly due to cap issues is a direct correlation to Skinner getting 9mil. No problem with the Byram swap, but what happens if Quinn and JJP put up a ppg in a contract year and both want a 5mil+ contract, will Sabres have to consider moving one of them because they dont have the money/cap?

Maybe Laughton and Deslauriers for Krebs and a 1st and then Jokiharju, a 2nd, a 3rd and ? (a 4th?) for Chychrun (obviously not all in same draft year).
Could just deal Jokiharju for picks and hit UFA for that better 2RD fit (Dumba, Pesce, Tanev)

Skinner at 9mil for 3 more yrs with a NMC is going to cost to dump.
Yes he was a ppg last year, and has a 63 pt season the yr before, but hes on pace for less than 60 pts, and thats not good for a 9mil player.
At 31 hes not falling off a cliff, but I somehow doubt he gets back to a ppg pace ever again and for 9 mil thats not good value.

HEY HO SABRES NEXT SEASON V2
Well COL and its potential cap issues could be a good trading partner, a cheaper (in trade) would be Laughton from PHI or equal offer for Cirelli from TB, or Chytil from NYR or Pageau from NYI.
Trenin OR Blueger is a good shot for a sizeable 4th liner, but I'd like to see Kulich or Ostlund or Rosen get in at some point.
And I think a better stay at home 2RD is needed than Jokiharju. (UFAs Roy, Tanev, Pesce come to mind.

Pens 2024-2025
Kind of rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic after it hit the iceberg.
Reilly, Rackell, Acciari don;t really have lots of value, even with retention, and you're not getting tons back, but just creating cap space.
And Dubas wanted these guys, theres no way prize UFAs want to join a team as a supporting player to a core thats getting near retirement and is 2 years out of playoffs, without any real good youth coming in.
Even your young guys like Poulin, Puustinen, POJ, Ludvig are "young-ish": 23 yrs old or older and they're still bit players/meh. And you're still playing plugs whop are never weres/has beens in Nieto, Pulijarvi, etc....
In reality, what they should be doing is moving what has value, but not for very long (Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Eller), but we know they wont do that, they'll just linger and get the same results without the team being able to draft higher, bring in youth resulting in an eventual meltdown where they have little quality youth, not much high value trade commodities, and they'll hit rock bottom for a few years

In a growing cap, why would UFAs:
Edmundsen
Domi
Bertuzzi
Lyubushkin
Samsonov
all take below, and some well below, what theyre making now (Domi will get more than a paltry 250k raise) and all on more than 1 yr deals?
And pretty much to maintain the same team, no matter this years final results?

Pretty good moves, I like the Broissot move (hes been a good quality backup with good stats for 5-6 yrs) and certainly Roy/Benoit help the defense defensively, but:
Not sold on Timmins being good enough defensively to be a regular
Not sold on their being enough offense from the blueline
Is Minten ready for 2LW
Kampf is an offensive blackhole and shouldn;t be on the third line (I like a 4th line of Dewar-Kampf-McMann with Reaves as 13th)
maybe Minten gets 3C
drop re-signing Gregor
Liljegren should go from 1.4 to 3mil, not 4mil and Broissot maybe just 2.5mil
so that leaves you with about 3mil for a 2LW or 3LW

And having seen Ginning play in Philly the last few games, he looks solid, even playing with another rookie.
He is 24 yrs old, but only his second season in North America, big kid with wheels, solid stay at home type but clean passes and calm demeanor. Hes a former 2nd round pick, but wouldn;t look bad as a 4th LD, or an 8th dman even at this point.
Helge is a strange one, hes a RD, hes big but more of a finesse guy, pretty smooth skater for a big man. His offense hasn;t translated to the NAmerican game as yet, but he has alot of upside.

While its intriguing proposal for Philly, you should just kill two birdsa with one stone.
PHI needs a backup goalie and they have cap space, so maybe combine the forsberg and chychrun deals to something like:
Chychrun and Forsberg for 2024 FLA 1st and RD prospect Grans Helge or LD prospect Adam Ginning. (Helge and Ginning aren;t Zamula, but you dont need to add a 3rd and 4th to drop Forsberg)

I agree, but he is the best center in this years UFA class, and theres only three that are reasonably aged.
Can Stephenson be as good outside Vegas?
Can Monahan stay healthy and continue producing?
Beyond those 3 theres a substantial drop off. Its also about what teams want, Philly would be looking for a 1st line center, but since there isnt one, they need a 1B center or 2C, as they have young wingers in Foertser, Tippett, Farabee, Koneckny, Brink, etc.... but lack centers in the organization. So its also about long term. Philly has cap and a load of picks/prospects, but I'd just as likely see them take a smaller cap chance on Stephensen, who probably doesn;t have the offensive upside

Leafs in the fall
DOnt know about the signings, especially with the cap jumping up:
Edmundsen is just 30 and making 3.5mil now, does he sign for just 2mil? Probably not
Lyubushkin is coming off a 2.75mil contract, you think he takes just 950k? Definitely not
DOmi gets just a 250k raise after getting over .5 pts per game? Hes been on so many teams in so many years, it is hard to see him settling well below market value long term when he has no real loyalty/staying power.
Glass had a good 22-23 yr and not so good 23-24, but I doubt NSH accepts the RIGHTS to Robertson alone for him
And after all that, you're going to roll with that goaltending? Unfortunately the only thing consistent about Woll's professional career is injuries and Jones is what he always is inconsistent.
All this and just 2 new players? If they dont make the third round this year, why bring back the same squad?

JBD and Ludvig are at best for PIT a wash. JBD is more of a NHLer than Ludvig.
Kleven wasnt a great 2nd round pick but hes got some value, a 3rd? a 4th?
those two together help offset the difference between Jarry and Korpisalo enough that a single 1st added should be the deal.
I just cant see OTT parting with so much for a slight upgrade in net, considering theyre also moving Forsberg for a measly 4th.
And the DET deal is too heavy in OTT favour

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Brad_Treliving</b></div><div>You mean Tres team is in a playoff spot and Dubas' team isn't?</div></div>
To be fair Treliving hasnt done much or changed much that Dubas already had there.
Treliving spent almost 20mil in UFA on poor investments, with Samsonov, Klingberg, Reaves, Bertuzzi, Kampf not quite living up to expectations or their salaries, with DOmi at least justifying and exceeding (in offensive production) his 3mil.
But this is the same leafs: alot of one year fixes (klingberg, Bertuzzi, DOmi, Edmundsen,Samsonov, etc...), bargain basement/duct tape fixes = some that work out and some that dont. But really just the same 4 headed offense and 1 blueliner spearheading a great defense, but one of the worst defenses/goaltending amongst playoff bound clubs. Still have a coach that wont play Robertson, didnt realize he needed Benoit to play, gets some contributions from farm, some small victories definitely, but this is a 3rd place team in their division, that once again is scrambling at the TDL for quality depth and defensemen that play defense, that no one is really scared of =SSDD.
Sure Dubas emptied the cupboards quite a bit of high round picks and a lack of prospects, but no one seemed to mind at the time.
I just cant see Trelibing as anything different from Dubas as hes done similar moves and for the most part kept Dubas's team. And ultimnately, just like the past few years it looks like the same team with similar weaknesses = and that is on Treliving.
