Kind of rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic after it hit the iceberg.
Reilly, Rackell, Acciari don;t really have lots of value, even with retention, and you're not getting tons back, but just creating cap space.
And Dubas wanted these guys, theres no way prize UFAs want to join a team as a supporting player to a core thats getting near retirement and is 2 years out of playoffs, without any real good youth coming in.
Even your young guys like Poulin, Puustinen, POJ, Ludvig are "young-ish": 23 yrs old or older and they're still bit players/meh. And you're still playing plugs whop are never weres/has beens in Nieto, Pulijarvi, etc....
In reality, what they should be doing is moving what has value, but not for very long (Crosby, Malkin, Letang, Eller), but we know they wont do that, they'll just linger and get the same results without the team being able to draft higher, bring in youth resulting in an eventual meltdown where they have little quality youth, not much high value trade commodities, and they'll hit rock bottom for a few years
