Playoff Ready
"Playoff ready". Doesn't seem to be in the Leafs DNA. Leafs are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you will get.
The six Dmen? Just too much inconsistency knowing who is going to step up and play at their best.

Leafs finally have a real GM
As a Flames fan, this is one of the funniest things I've ever read.
I'll grant he's better than Dubas, but that's a low bar.
Shanahan's still there, right?

Thinking Markstrom is worth Mercer+ is truly crazy on this site now...What 35yr old goalie is worth a 22yr old 20 goal scoring that is having a down year and has 30g upside? He had 27 last year.

That's going to be a no from Chicago. If you can get value for him, more power to you. It just won't be from Chicago.

Mopping up cap casualties
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Why would DOmi sign long term in an ANNUALLY JUMPING CAP for what hes making now?
WHy would 31 yr old Edmundsen, who's making 3.75mil take 2mil long term?
There are only 3 quality UFA centers and stephenson has been criminally underpaid, so 4mil is way too light
And why ignore goaltending? Wedgewood/Jones/Woll (because of injuries) is not a good/consistent net</div></div>
Domi deal is drawing on the whole hometown not having to move cities every year plus endorsements etc.
I take the point on edmundson although don't think its impossible he signs it to be on a contender. If not there's similar options in the same bracket, maybe do a deal with vegas for Hague at $2.2m etc.
Depending on how the chips fall could potentially stretch to a bit more on stephenson and even run a 21/22 man roster so could get towards the $5-6m area. I'd argue he wont go for beyond that $6/7m+ but hey could be wrong.
Again take the point on the goaltending but is it really worth spending $3-5m for a goalie who could fall down. Plenty of teams have proved you can win with low paid goalies so personally a trio of Woll/Wedgewood/Jones with better D in front should be more than okay given cap constraints from our big contracts.
All in all I'd be more than happy with this line-up and feel this or a variation of this is definitely achievable.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Skinner at 9mil for 3 more yrs with a NMC is going to cost to dump.
Yes he was a ppg last year, and has a 63 pt season the yr before, but hes on pace for less than 60 pts, and thats not good for a 9mil player.
At 31 hes not falling off a cliff, but I somehow doubt he gets back to a ppg pace ever again and for 9 mil thats not good value.</div></div>
Skinner is classically/historically inconsistent. His point totals fluctuate wildly. It’s tough to say if he’s aging and slowing down or if this is just one of his down seasons and we see the return of the 30 goal/60 point player next year.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Pretty good moves, I like the Broissot move (hes been a good quality backup with good stats for 5-6 yrs) and certainly Roy/Benoit help the defense defensively, but:
Not sold on Timmins being good enough defensively to be a regular
Not sold on their being enough offense from the blueline
Is Minten ready for 2LW
Kampf is an offensive blackhole and shouldn;t be on the third line (I like a 4th line of Dewar-Kampf-McMann with Reaves as 13th)
maybe Minten gets 3C
drop re-signing Gregor
Liljegren should go from 1.4 to 3mil, not 4mil and Broissot maybe just 2.5mil
so that leaves you with about 3mil for a 2LW or 3LW</div></div>
Alright! Thanks I’ll keep that in mind, just did one where they traded for Binner and did demelo instead of Roy

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>And having seen Ginning play in Philly the last few games, he looks solid, even playing with another rookie.
He is 24 yrs old, but only his second season in North America, big kid with wheels, solid stay at home type but clean passes and calm demeanor. Hes a former 2nd round pick, but wouldn;t look bad as a 4th LD, or an 8th dman even at this point.
Helge is a strange one, hes a RD, hes big but more of a finesse guy, pretty smooth skater for a big man. His offense hasn;t translated to the NAmerican game as yet, but he has alot of upside.</div></div>
i think in practice my preference would be Grans just due to the lack of right-shot d-men we have with his type of profile and his skillset interests me. Ginning would be pinned to 3LD and I think we have guys who could cover that role in the system already. Neither sound like bad options though

PHI needs a backup goalie and they have cap space, so maybe combine the forsberg and chychrun deals to something like:
Chychrun and Forsberg for 2024 FLA 1st and RD prospect Grans Helge or LD prospect Adam Ginning. (Helge and Ginning aren;t Zamula, but you dont need to add a 3rd and 4th to drop Forsberg)</div></div>

Minimal Moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>I agree, but he is the best center in this years UFA class, and theres only three that are reasonably aged.
Can Stephenson be as good outside Vegas?
Can Monahan stay healthy and continue producing?
Beyond those 3 theres a substantial drop off. Its also about what teams want, Philly would be looking for a 1st line center, but since there isnt one, they need a 1B center or 2C, as they have young wingers in Foertser, Tippett, Farabee, Koneckny, Brink, etc.... but lack centers in the organization. So its also about long term. Philly has cap and a load of picks/prospects, but I'd just as likely see them take a smaller cap chance on Stephensen, who probably doesn;t have the offensive upside</div></div>
Agree with you that the UFA centre position has few "above average" players available. But again, what's the balance between acquiring one for NOW and what he might be become in a few years?
Guess we'll find out for real in July. His production with the Canucks, admitting he has been playing wing, might be an indicator to "stay away"

hello
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hammerwise</b></div><div>Doubt you'll get Monahan at 3.5mil and Domi will not settle for what hes making now.
Its a growing cap and Domi, with his 6 teams in 8 yrs, will want to get paid more.
Just dont think you'll get 2 second liners having very good seasons for 6.5mil
and that goaltending is not good/reliable</div></div>
Yeah, I suspect Monahan is going to want to capitalize on this outlier season he is having. This year he has a shooting % of 20.5, last year 12.5 and the year before was 10.9
McMann is pro-rated for 19 goals this year. Monahan is pro-rated for 24 and is playing with better players and 175% more icetime per game. I think I would try McMann in that position and see how he does.
Domi might want more but he isn't worth much more based on his play in Toronto and other teams besides that one year in Montreal. If he wants more than $3.5 x 6 years then I would let him walk and give his position to Holmberg.
I agree with your assessment on the goaltending.

If JT was not on the team next season
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>palhal</b></div><div>There is a difference what a player earns and what his position on the team is.......Tavares is a 2C but currently overpaid. 39th in centres in definitely 2C. You're right about Stephenson, is he a lesser player outside of Vegas? But look at the UFAs in this post. The big name signings take the players to age 35. Are they going to be as effective they get older? Admitting the cap hit isn't as much
Tavares and his signing was "fair" at the time. Covid and the minimal cap increase over the course the signing has been factor in making the contract look bad.
Even Muzzin was resigned in February 2020, just before Covid hit March 2020. Certainly he wouldn't be getting 5.825 if the Leafs had known the cap would be have been somewhat flat.
There is much too much criticism of the Leafs spending and their cap allotment. Most teams spend to the cap. even non playoff teams. Isn't that much worse? How about the Sens next season.
Currently they spend near the cap. Next season Sanderson goes from 1m to 9m.? Are the Sens going to be better when one player gets a 8m raise and the cap rises just 4.5m?</div></div>
No. He goes to 8M, not 9. Plus they are going to get much more cap space from a couple UFA's and all the buyout and retained cap, going from 7.5 mil to -625k.

Forgot about Krebs so went with Krebs instead of Blueger, although one of Dakota/Blueger is still a need.
Cates had a bad injury and hasnt scored much this year, but really its about the type of player.
Looking at the above, theres at least 3 LW, 3 RW, 3C who can put up pts and guys who can move up and down lineup as needed, with guys like Cates/Greenway/Dakota providing some physicality and 2 way play and mentor the newest young guys.
Pesce (while maybe underpaid, theres plenty of cap left), Clifton and MacDermis (8th dman) are there to clear crease and allow Byram/Power and Dahlin to rush the puck, with Johnson as a high quality 7th.</div></div>
Guys are developing 2 way games. Quinn, Krebs, Benson, cozens have all been fixtures on the PK.
I go back and forth between big changes and stay the course. Right now I am largely stay the course (Byram trade has a big role in that). We do need to add a center and upgrade the 4th line

Pesce probably gets around $7 or $8 million, and after the season he’s had Luukkonen is definitely getting a lot more money than that. You also never bothered to resign Krebs, or even trade him.
