TDL - Blueger Borgen
If the Pens decide to trade Blueger it would have to mean the Pens are either out of the race, or someone has stepped up proving they can do his job. That said, he's a funny player to value in a trade. He's a 4C with 3C value because that's really what he's capable of at the end of the day.
I'm not trying to be a MTL fan here and want way more than you're proposing, but DEPENDING on what the deadline market is looking like, I think the Pens can get an overpay. I'm not saying FOR SURE, but especially with retention I think the Pens can squeeze a 2nd or at the very least a 3rd + middle of the road prospect.

Changes needed
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Campabee</b></div><div>I love how you just gloss over the last 4 years before this one like they just suddenly don't exist. Gallagher had 4 straight years of putting up 30 goals or being on pace for 30 goals (shortened seasons). Zuckers previous 4 seasons were on pace for 20 ish goals and neither one missed huge chunks of time in due to injury. Zucker played 38 out 56 games last season (18 games missed), 60 out of 69 (9 games missed), 2 seasons before that were 81 and 82 games. Gallagher played 35 out of 56 games (21 games missed), the season before he played 59 out of 71 games (12 games missed) the 2 seasons before that he played all 82 games. So in short Gallagher is the more prolific scorer so yeah he has more value. You realize that Gallagher played with Danault and Tatar most of the time right?! Neither of them were ever in the same league as Crosby or Malkin either, they were more on par with ERod and Kapanen and yet he still put up 30+ goals. So yeah I will still take 5 years of Gallagher over 1 year of Zucker.</div></div>
It's a what have you done for me lately business. Danault and Tatar are miles better than ERod. And arguable better than Kapanen; at the very least a hell of a lot more consistent.
Jason Zucker over the last 85 games (his whole time in Pittsburgh, just over 2 seasons)
85 GP 21 G 23 A 44 PTS 2.07 pts/60
Brendan Gallagher over the last 80 games (last 2 seasons)
80 GP 20 G 21 A 41 PTS 2.1 pts/60
So just an FYI over the past 2 or so seasons they have basically the same stats. So if Zucker with 1 year left at 5.5 is bad, then Gallagher at 6.5 for 5 more seasons is god awful. And you basically make it even more in the favor that Zucker is the better contract situation by making the point that as injury prone Zucker has been the last 2 years, Gallagher has been even more injury prone. And with the way Gallagher plays, thats typical and only going to get worse each year.

I've been trying to keep up with what the numbers would be for both Letang and Malkin, but didn't know there were direct quotes from their agents regarding the asking price.
What's the number??
These suggestions don't seem THAT clueless.

Bertuzzi
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Billy12Bob</b></div><div>The gold standard is the Wahington trade - Mantha for Vrána + 1st + 2nd + Páník.
Bertuzzi is scoring 80 points this season and Detroit has a good (50%) chance of making the playoffs next season. There's no way Yzerman is trading him for "middle of the pack" returns.
Cap isn't the only reason that PIT will trade defenders this offseason, waivers is another one. They either trade one of their players (most likely Pettersson or Matheson) or they lose Joseph (and others) for nothing on waivers.</div></div>
That trade was horrible for the Caps the second it happened. Mantha for Vrana straight was arguably a win for Detroit. I can see an argument of the 2nd to take Panik. The 1st was 100% unnecessary.

dude use to be a 40 point player. His last 3 years a 20 point player. Hell this year he's barely on pace to break 20 points. 20.9 Last year 1 goal.
31 year old defensemen with clearly declining stats.
Meanwhile Mathesons play been improving every year for the last 3 years, and the guy has been on 10+ goal paces from the blue line every one of them.
He posted this thinking everyone was just going to go Brodie LOL man anyone even looking at the production know this ain't even close.</div></div>
The guy is a defensive standout every night for Toronto. He doesn’t play PP at all - that’s taken by Rielly, Sandin, and Muzzin the majority of the time. His point total is expected to be lower with less offensive time.
If you think Brodie’s “broken” because of his point totals, you don’t know jack shiit about hockey.

I hear Firstline center is looking for more like 11m AAV so you probably need to shed some salary to fit him in. Would be huge to get him so early in his career though, lock him up long term!

That trade makes absolutely zero sense for the Pens. None whatsoever. Why would they trade a top bottom six center for a mediocre dman?

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Blazingbat11</b></div><div>And Hab fans are right to do so (in Gallagher's case that is). MTL have absolutely no interest in trading him. So why accept market value? or even a slight overpayment? Unless my socks don't personally get blown away into the stratosphere from an offer, I'd rather keep him. Upcoming UFA contract be damned, we will resign him.</div></div>
Take it from a Flames fan - we had the same attitude with Iginla and in hind sight we held on to him far too long and it set us back 3-4 years in terms of potential rebuild. We held him and he was able to keep us constantly in the middle of the pack - not good enough to make the playoffs and too good to get any high picks.
Some times the hard decisions are the right ones! If I were a Canadiens fan I would seriously consider shopping him!

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>gaudetster</b></div><div>I examine trades as from last years draft to make it make more sense. I also don't believe kessel is very good anymore, as he doesn't really create. He can finish but needs someone to do the heavy lifting.
Last years 4th overall was Brady Tkatchuk, and I would prefer having him the next 10 years than Kessel
Kerfoot is 24 and got 40ish points last year so he's a solid player, with a 17th overall pick your just hoping the player is around as good as Kerfoot so why would they bother.
Its not as far away as blocking GMJR, but it just isn't a good fit.</div></div>
I think this ultimately comes down to us having a difference in opinion of Kessel. I question how you can say he's not very good anymore, but we'll just have to agree to disagree there.

I give this 4.5 stars. This is probably the closest that I’ve seen for a Phil Kessel trade and makes tons of sense. It gives the pens a second line winger, a top 4 defenseman so Maatta can move down to the 3rd pair and balance the D giving Letang less minutes. The only thing is that either the kings would have to swap Toffoli out and Pearson in. If they’d rather send Toffoli in the trade then upgrade the pick to a 1st or take Hunwick back in the deal.
