RedWing fans are gonna be so mad…lol.

Even with a 25 year old top 6(mid 6 at worst) NHL winger; still a RFA and under team control.

A 25 year old NHL LHD signed long term to a reasonable 4M deal. A solid 2nd pairing LHD on a good team(a really good 3rd pairing on a play-off team at worst).

A “B”, B-“ prospect and a 1st round pick.

They will still be highly upset at this ACGM

Bertuzzi for Kapanen, Pettersson, Hallander, 1st

I wouldn't be mad at this. Kapanen will do better when he gets away from Sullivan (he was better in Toronto) with a $840K QO, Pettersson is a good 2nd pair guy under contract, Hallander has possibilities, and a 1st. Ya never know what some crazy GM would do, but realistically, Detroit isn't going to get much better than that.

You're wrong.

This is actually a good starting point for a negotiation. It's not enough but it's enough to get us talking.

Hållander is a rather weak prospect so replace him with someone with a better fit for Detroit (like Poulin).
Bert scores 80 points a year and Kapanen only half of that, we need the other half replaced too (add Nylander).
To really wet our tongues throw in another prospect (like Joseph).

See, we're not as unreasonable as you think.

The thing is that Detroit doesn't have to trade Bert. The best option might very well be to keep him.

Pettersson can be had cheap in the offseason. PIT have cap problems and will likely have to trade either him or Matheson and both are interesting for Detroit.
Hållander hasn't really panned out and Kapanen only produces half of what Bert does.

In a worst case scenario (where Bert declares he's going UFA) we may still get an even better deal at next years TDL where we can retain 50% and really fleece some desperate GM. Keeping him gives us 80 points next season that we won't have without him.

No you don't have to trade Bert but you'd get more this yr than next bc his contract is so team friendly. Maybe this isn't the package but if you don't believe u can resign than trade him this yr not next. For next year do you really want that 80 points? You guys aren't close to competing for a cup so do worse and get better picks. You are 21 points out of the playoffs with over 20 games left in the season. So why want points from Bert. Take the picks/prospect. Petterson is a solid young Dman who you are right can be had for like a 2nd. Kap will get you 40 points, and will probably be able to pull it together away from Sully. A 1st is a 1st, and hallander is still only 21, maybe you guys want POJ or Legare or both instead (I dont think we will trade Poulin).

I think this offer atleast starts the convo. As bertuzzi could be nastyyyy with the Pens.

There's no indication that Bert doesn't want to resign with Detroit.

Detroit has a 50% chance of making the playoffs next year (no, that's not a joke) so we do need his 80 points.

With Seider and Raymond and Veleno all a year older and our horrible left side defense fixed in offseason and a centre added (Copp coming home) as well as Berggren making the roster it's an entirely reasonable goal.

All GM's know that PIT have to trade at least one defender away due to cap and waivers. Detroit really has no reason to take on one at the TDL, they'll be cheaper during offseason. PIT isn't the only team trying to get rid of some of their defense, there's several other options like Schmidt or Scandella both of which will do what Detroit need i.e. cover until our prospects are ready. There are also good options in FA.

I don't think that Pittsburgh is going to have cap problems as I feel that Letang has zero intention on resigning with Pittsburgh and I think that Malkin is also 80%-90% out as well.

If you are trading someone like Bertuzzi you are not looking for his replacement, you get other stuff. As you mention, they have no reason to move him.

It's rare to move an offensive top pair D for an offensive top pair D. You would usually get a defensive D or a forward.
Similar deal with Forwards. You don't move a high power forward for a high power forward, etc etc.
Bertuzzi for a middle 6 F, a middle pair D, a middle prospect, and a 1st, is pretty good 4 pieces. You might get a better individual piece from someone else, but then the other pieces won't be as solid.

The gold standard is the Wahington trade - Mantha for Vrána + 1st + 2nd + Páník.

Bertuzzi is scoring 80 points this season and Detroit has a good (50%) chance of making the playoffs next season. There's no way Yzerman is trading him for "middle of the pack" returns.

Cap isn't the only reason that PIT will trade defenders this offseason, waivers is another one. They either trade one of their players (most likely Pettersson or Matheson) or they lose Joseph (and others) for nothing on waivers.

That trade was horrible for the Caps the second it happened. Mantha for Vrana straight was arguably a win for Detroit. I can see an argument of the 2nd to take Panik. The 1st was 100% unnecessary.
