I know this response is delayed but I only mess around on this when I'm at work. But anyway, why do you feel that trade is so bad? My thinking is Colorado is in need of depth, and their core is so young that they can afford to deal a high draft pick in order to pick up a PPG player like Kessel. Plus they'll maintain 2 1st round picks and given how terrible the Pens look currently that should be a high teens pick. Phil might be on the wrong side of 30, but he's still a PPG player.

I examine trades as from last years draft to make it make more sense. I also don't believe kessel is very good anymore, as he doesn't really create. He can finish but needs someone to do the heavy lifting.

Last years 4th overall was Brady Tkatchuk, and I would prefer having him the next 10 years than Kessel

Kerfoot is 24 and got 40ish points last year so he's a solid player, with a 17th overall pick your just hoping the player is around as good as Kerfoot so why would they bother.

Its not as far away as blocking GMJR, but it just isn't a good fit.

I think this ultimately comes down to us having a difference in opinion of Kessel. I question how you can say he's not very good anymore, but we'll just have to agree to disagree there.
