I think Sprong for Pettersson has worked out, and will work out, well for you, but I agree with the rest.

For those that might be quick to quibble, Rutherford traded Hagelin for Tanner Pearson, whom he then traded for Erik Gudbranson, which is why you correctly say "don't trade away Hagelin for an overpaid defenseman."

We didn’t trade a 1st for Reaves. That’s being disingenuous about the trade. The only reason that trade is a failure is because Lauzon ended up with too many concussions after being drafted.

Signed an optimistic Devils fan who sat through watching an AHL team for probably 1/4 of the season last year, and sat through some of the most mediocre hockey teams thrown together (after 2012 and before 2017) witnessed our GM firing a coach to COACH the damn team, 0 prospects to be excited about and a piece of s h i t heading the scouting department

No person with more than 2 working brain cells thinks that desmith is a better option than Murray. The Pens were going to lose a goalie no matter what. They chose to keep the younger one with more of a ceiling.

Tanev will be a perfect fit for what this team was missing. Who cares if his contract is for 6 years. Once Malkin and Letang are gone in 2 years nothing else will matter. This team will have to go through a proper rebuilding phase. Which means being terrible for a couple of years and rebuilding through the draft. There is no quick fix or retool at that point.

Gudbranson has been great for the pens and his cap hit hasnt caused and issue.

Sprong was put on waivers by a team that desperately needs scoring help and will most likely miss the playoffs. Rutherford got a top4 dman for him. Sprong is not a good prospect.

He dropped 20 spots in the draft and gave up a 4th liner to get Reaves. Not the end of the world. You should blame Sullivan for misusing/not using him correctly. Plus he was eventually used to get jarred McCann.

As a change of pace from all the hellish feedback above ill try to give some constructive criticism.

Save percentage isn't always everything. especially when it comes to the back up. You have to keep in mind the deployment is typically different where the starter will get the harder match ups and the back up will be filled in against easier teams to give the starter a break throughout the season. However, he did play well when murray was injured and he saw all of the starts. When you are looking at save percentage its good to look at the overall sample size where Murray has played +/- 160 games and desmith is down around 50.
