Would you stand pat? For the record, none of this will happen at a deadline and I think that they’re a 2nd round team at best but that’s the fun part of armchair GM

Sorry, my post was a little confusing. I was describing Clifton but realize that it looks like I was describing Reilly. Would rather trade Reilly but the 4th for Clifton is what I was referring to. My bad

Revision 2
As a Bs fan I would rather see them move Reilly as he’s on the more crowded left side and would bring more cap relief. Sabres would be getting a solid bottom pair guy who can play both sides and doesn’t make a lot of noise when he gets scratched. Is too aggressive at times and has limitations but a 4th rounder is a fair price

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Islesforthecup</b></div><div>So tbh i dont like him personally. But i think thats around the value that hes gonna get. I would love a 2 way LHD and a winger or 2. What would be the price if we packaged reilly and debrusk together</div></div>
The issue with trading DeBrusk is that the Bruins are going to need to replace the 20-25 plus goals that he can produce and they can’t add any salary. So Reilly and JD is $7mil coming in and you’ll need to send back a top 4 winger who can score 20+ goals and makes < $4 million plus maybe picks, depending on who the player going to the Bs is.

As an Isles fan, what do think about the Grzelcyk trade? Where do you want the team to go as they seem to be in that same middle next year as the Bs.

Sweeney always likes to have at least $1-2 million in cushion to add at the dealine

Some Thoughts For Next Year
I don’t think that Foligno is on the team next year in this scenario. Sweeney always likes to leave cap room to add at the deadline and there isn’t any here. Cutting ties (buyout or trade) is the easiest way to get there.

I would want Lindholm to agree to an extension if I’m giving up 2 of my three best future assets (Lohrei and a 1st). That being said, you gotta give to get and this would solve the Bs biggest need of another top 4 LD and replaces JD on the right side.

Bo and Chychurn
Can we talk about Chychrun for a second? I agree that he has all the tools and the contract that make him an attractive player. However, I don’t see him as a true number one D right now and all the trade speculation has him fetching a package with top prospects and 1st round picks.
Chychrun exploded last year, but he shot well above his career shooting pct and had an ozone start of over 60%. This year both are way down and so are his numbers. Playing next to McAvoy would free him up from the heavy lifting defensively, but CM does that for any partner. Could the Bs get 75% of the production for 50% of the acquisition cost from someone else or is Chychrun that good that he could carry his own pair or form a super pair with CM73 and make the trade package worth it?
Full caveat that I don’t watch many Coyotes games so I can only go by his hockey reference page and how every article about him mentions his struggles this year. So let me ask AZ fans: if he was on another team would you trade your only highly ranked prospect and multiple picks (including at least one 1st) for him?

Keep Haula 2C
This looks like it breaks down into DeBrusk and a 1st for Lindholm (an RFA who is best suited as a 2nd line W for a UFA best suited as as 1B or 2A defenseman) so that’s in the framework of a plausible deal.
ZS and Keyser are two mid to low level prospects who are either blocked or in need of a fresh start plus 2 second rounders for Rackell (another rental) I’m not sure works as much for the Bs as it does for ANA. Take away one of the 2nds and I think that it’s closer
PS- this is the deal that I had in mind yesterday when I talked about JD only moving if it upgraded the D and brought in another top 6 winger

Ducks moves
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Bruinadian67</b></div><div>If JDB keeps producing on the top line, I doubt he’s going anywhere! And Frederick on the RW is probably a bad idea as well as breaking up his line like a previous post mentioned. I doubt Sweeney’s making any big moves.</div></div>
100% speculation on my part (like literally every post on this website), but I’m starting to feel like JD is staying for the season. It’s hard to see a scenario where he gets moved and the Bs get better unless it’s part of a series of moves to upgrade at D and bring in a top 6 RW.
Bs will have $5 mil in deadline cap space which expands their trade horizons since they could theoretically make deals that aren’t dollar for dollar or need a lot of salary retention.
And please no “you have to get something for him before he walks for nothing in the offseason.” 30 games of good production is something. Trade his rights for a 5th or 6th rounder in the summer and enjoy watching a Bs team with some depth in the playoffs for a change.

Breaking down the structure
In a vacuum I like Anderson, even going back to his Columbus days, and I think that he could be a good fit with Boston. Having said that I don’t think that spending that kind of $ on him would be the best management of resources for the Bs. Also, the trade itself is a little much for me (especially if JD agreed to an extension during the process at which point it’s closer to a 1 for 1).

Interesting. Curious to see that 1st meet and greet with Trocheck and Marchand.
Doubt Lysell is ready for top 6 minutes. My guess is Smith gets another crack or maybe Studs settles in at RW. Wouldn’t be surprised if Lohrei works in at some point next year too as a callup. If both of those guys Lysell and Lohrei) can work out early in their careers I think that a soft rebuild works 🤞

Bs would do that in a heartbeat. I think that if the 2nd becomes a 1st it’s closer and it’s similar to the package that CAL gave up for Toffoli. But I think that VAN could get a better deal from someone else. I’s still do it

Jets deadline
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jgimp69</b></div><div>I might be one of the few Jets fans who say this, but I think DeBrusk would look good in a Jets jersey. I watch a lot of B games (wifeys team) and I always liked his game. Fast, aggressive, great forechecker with a scoring touch. If he extended with a reasonable cap hit, I think he would add some middle six scoring.
We aren’t getting a 3rd for BooLoo, maybe a 7th but tbh he’s probably waiver wire bound. I’d be fine taking Ritchie for Toronto’s 22’ 2nd but I doubt Chipman is.
Getting our second back from Washington would be good for Stasny. 42-45 range could target Rinzel</div></div>
I could 100% see DeBrusk putting up really good numbers for the last month of the season for the Jets, signing a multi year deal then going back to going 20 games between goals again.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Hamcity</b></div><div>The Canucks aren’t trading Hughes or Pettersson. And that Boston trade is horrendous for Van. Taking back bad contracts while also retaining salary for the rest of OELs long contract. The only trades I think Van considers of the bunch is NYR, VGK, and FLA imo</div></div>
The Boston deal isn’t as bad as it looks. Moore and Wagner are off the books after next year and can be buried in the minors for some cap relief (Boston is already doing that) and Vaakaneinen and Steen are low cost RFAs with potential. The level of salary retention would be the negotiable point of the deal and what buys any draft picks.

If they decide to trade 1sts and/or the 2 decent prospects they have, they need to be bringing back players with term or players they can extend.
That being said i can see Donnydumba$$ doing this.</div></div>
If you look at the deadline deals the last few years that involve giving away 1sts, it never works out for a rental. Guys with term like Goodrow or Skjei are the rare cases where there’s real value. Otherwise you’re giving up future assets for guys like Kevin Hayes, JG Pageau, Tomas Tatar, etc. Goodrow was the only player in the last 5 years who’s new team gave up a 1st and won the cup and he had 2 years left on his deal

The whole point of this exercise is assuming that 37 retires. I hope with every ounce of me that Bergy comes back but Sweeney and Co have to make contingency plans and that’s what these are.
