Middle of the road
The front office will be cutting their nose off to spite their face if they fire Cassidy. It's not a coaching/systems issue. Cassidy gets the most out of his best players. He just needs more of them.
Minor tweaks is all the front office can do after tying their own hands this offseason with what they did last offseason.
IF Bergeron comes back I too will watch and appreciate every second of every shift that he takes.

If there's room on Boston's top line for DeBrusk, there's room for him on one of the league's worst teams. That trade is an absolute steal for Detroit. No way would I be happy with that return as a Bruins fan.

Little Tight but Hopeful
One question i have here: how do you convince zboril to come back? I think he’s a player. Obviously things might have totally changed after losing a season to knee surgery, but he looked really good. However, if I’m him, and I’m looking at this team, there’s virtually no possibility of getting into the top four. He would always be a couple mistakes away from being a healthy scratch. Wouldn’t it be better for him to go to a place with a bit more opportunity?

Miller is certainly worth a 1st, Debrusk, and a kicker. Lysell is not a kicker. Downgrade taht piece of the trade and i think its fair.

Jets deadline
I might be one of the few Jets fans who say this, but I think DeBrusk would look good in a Jets jersey. I watch a lot of B games (wifeys team) and I always liked his game. Fast, aggressive, great forechecker with a scoring touch. If he extended with a reasonable cap hit, I think he would add some middle six scoring.
We aren’t getting a 3rd for BooLoo, maybe a 7th but tbh he’s probably waiver wire bound. I’d be fine taking Ritchie for Toronto’s 22’ 2nd but I doubt Chipman is.
Getting our second back from Washington would be good for Stasny. 42-45 range could target Rinzel

Full Rebuild
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dpdan</b></div><div>The Boston deal isn’t as bad as it looks. Moore and Wagner are off the books after next year and can be buried in the minors for some cap relief (Boston is already doing that) and Vaakaneinen and Steen are low cost RFAs with potential. The level of salary retention would be the negotiable point of the deal and what buys any draft picks.</div></div>
This is the reason why Boston doesnt do it either. Vaakanainen will most likely be an NHLer next year (When Healthy has played a lot and played well) Steen will be pushing again and has looked pretty good with the big club. Moore/Wagner are not really huge cap dumps at this point. No point in bringing in OEL, retention or not. Hes not where he used to be. Rather have Vaakanainen at 1 million.

Ya the fact that their deals expire next year makes it a bit better, but I still don’t think Rutherford wants all this cap retained on the books for so long when they’re literally looking for flexibility. When your retaining 2 m of a guy like OEL, who now have to find a top 4 guy to replace him for 5m just to break even and replace him while not wasting more cap on a bloated D. Hard to do. I guess that’s not the worst one of the bunch but it’s still not ideal imo

Klingberg
Boston has no business trading 1sts for rentals. This team is not a cup contender, it’s a waste.
If they decide to trade 1sts and/or the 2 decent prospects they have, they need to be bringing back players with term or players they can extend.
That being said i can see Donnydumba$$ doing this.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>islesadist</b></div><div>As an islanders fan, how does Rielly look this year? did something go wrong?</div></div>
He plays a solid offensive game and is reliable in the d end but definitely needs a more defensive partner. It wasn’t that he did anything wrong it’s just no one expected zboril or vaakaninen to take the jumps they did they have played really well sucks both got injured but both will be back for playoffs and they can fill a bottom pair spot. Bruins are just trying to clear cap but not as a cap dump just because the young guys are proving they deserve play time

TDL fix
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>dpdan</b></div><div>Crazy how fast Garland got the Vancouver stink on him. He was one of the more popular Bs ACGM targets last year.</div></div>
Boston fans love their locals. I don’t care where they are from.
They have been linked to him as well. Donny loves his small guys being one himself.
Combine being local and rumors = tons of ACGMS. Regardless if it’s smart or not.
They have other holes more pressing. Only way I’d give up Lysell is for Chychrun or a .75 ppg+ center with term.

The trades look good but Klingberg would for sure be a rental, would rather just have Vaak keep playing since he's proving to be a top 4 D. Can use the pieces in the Klingberg trade for something else or not at all

Can they even trade for big name players
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>BestGMBenning</b></div><div>Zboril I will agree has been a nice addition and Urho has as well. It’s just the way they’ve aged. DeBrusk has fallen off a cliff. Senyshyn really hasn’t been good. Their best pick ups were players in the 2nd round and one of them is no longer on the team and another isn’t in the NHL anymore. But I guess their defence depth is fine. But the forward depth is just not that great. Most of them in the past years have been at best 3rd-4th line players. Like Oskar Steen and Anton Blidh. They may have found their way onto the roster but they aren’t high impact prospects. They already have a good defence group that we’re grown through Boston’s system but they don’t have any prospects that have grown in to top 6 players. They can’t keep relying on free agency to bring the top 6 players in. And the only great assets they have to offer up in trades are draft picks. Like it or not the prospect pool still isn’t super strong.</div></div>
There were multiple reasons why Debrusk fell off. The last 2 months he’s back to his normal production and playing well.
You act like Zboril and Urho are at the end of their careers. They have 10+ years ahead of them.
Don’t sleep on Steen. Put up numbers overseas. Was 10g 10a in 16games at Prov. Would not be surprised if he gets to 2nd line at some point in his career.
Where players were drafted is irrelevant. Bergeron was 2nd. Marchand was a 3rd. It’s what they become that matters.
Bergy and Rask could retire at years end. Losing Bergy will be painful. Marchand getting up there. The rest of the team will be together for years. Hate to break it to you but they will remain competitive for years.

Can they even trade for big name players
Lysell, Lohrei, 1sts can get anyone available . Don’t have to be deep just need a a couple.
The real question is should they? They can’t afford to trade away the few valuable prospects for rentals for that very reason.
Outside of the prospect pool being shallow, it is, the rest of your take is pretty bad.
Boston has a long history of bringing in mediocre vets to block young players.
People had written off Zboril and Urho for the same reason you brought up, they had not been brought up an made an impact. Depth chart matters. Zboril was buried behind Chara, Krug, Grizz for a couple of years. You benching them? When Z and TK left Zboril took a spot and had some good moments and growing pains before getting hurt last year. This year was playing very well. His injury and Covid made calling up Urho a necessity, now he’s been playing 22m a night on the 1st pair and playing well. Both need a permanent spot in the lineup next year.
It’s about opportunity.
Steen forced his way not only to stay up but in the lineup when he got the chance. Same with Blidh.
Studnicka is the next one. Written off by many because it seems like he’s been around forever. He’s 22. College senior age. Less than 100 games in the AHL while averaging .79ppg there. If he was somewhere else he’d have a role. In Boston he has to wait.
2015 7 picks in first 3 rounds. 5 are in the NHL. Senyshyn, the only really bad pick, leading Prov in goals. JFK in Europe to be close to family. Were mistakes made, sure, they went off board and it cost them. A Donny trait for years to come. Had they taken 1 of the guys they passed on instead of Seny nobody would mention 2015 other than to say what a great draft it was for them. How often does a team pull 5 or 6 NHLers in one draft? I remember Edmonton having 11 picks in a draft and not one of them ever played in the NHL. Pretty much every team, every year, could have drafted better. It’s not a sure thing.
