<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>West_Virginia_Take_Me_Home</b></div><div>Then your logic still makes no sense. If you are going to say they are all backups, then it does little to improve your goalie situation.
1.) Holtby isn't a true backup. He's split the starts
2.) Husso is the starter at this point.
3.) Georgiev is a backup but the point still stands. He's either playing like a backup and you still don't have a starting goaltender, or he's a starting goaltender and the rangers aren't going to take that for him
4.) Varlamov is still posting impressive save % and gaa all things considered. But it's going to still cost more than a second.</div></div>

1) Oettinger is the real starter in Dallas, even though he's played only 3 more games his nubmers are significantly better plus Holtby is a pending UFA at the end of the year, there's no way he can fetch more than a 2nd and a small piece
2) I agreed that Husso was the starter which is why I explained that the trade is very out there to make
3) Georgiev is a gamble as you don't know how well he'll play in a starter role as he's under the shadow of Igor. Again, he IS NOT the starter whatsoever in New York and this is the type of return they'll get for a pending RFA and a guy that might not want to be a backup for the rest of his career considering Igor's age.
4) Varlomov is the team's backup, and yes his save% is great but that's a huge team factor, if you look at his analytics, his GSAx is average amongst all goalies. And again, I didn't trade just a second, I traded two 2nd round picks which is near the value of a 1st as we've seen from multiple trades in the past.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>Can't see Seattle trading a 2nd for an overpriced 30-year-old luxury item. They're just into building the first time, not one highly specialized piece away from contending.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>Wow, so much to sort through here. Let me give it a shot.

- Barrie is overpriced (this is not a hot take at all), and bringing up two far superior and yet still overpriced examples doesn't help the argument.

- Barrie was capable of producing at a similar level (not outproducing them), but that time appears to be in the past now.

- Let's be real, his flaws are not overblown. Dude is a major defensive liability, and he no longer produces enough to obscure that well-known fact.

- The guy has 18 points in 41 games, and just nine in 644 even strength minutes. If it wasn't for coat-tail riding McD and Drai, those numbers would be even sadder. And for a 30-year-old guy with obvious defensive issues and a 2x4.5 remaining after this season, that is not what I consider covering his salary. If you think it is, well gosh... good luck with all that. Just be aware that there are currently 59 RDs with a better points per $ ratio (or almost enough for every team in the league to have two), and almost all of those are far superior defensively. There are 151 D-men with better pts/$ ratios, which is a little under five for every team (and again, most are much better defensively, to boot). In all, there are a grand total of 530 NHL players currently with a better pts/$ ratio, or enough for every team to have just over 16-and-a-half of them (and, mind you, teams dress 18 skaters per night).

I don't know what else to tell you, man.</div></div>

I thought that Barrie wouldn't be the right fit in Seattle which is why I made the trade not team specific but we've seen crazier things from GMs.

Also, if you look on nautralstattrick, you can see that Barrie's offensive analytics are pretty much on par with Klingberg's. And I'd imagine Klingberg (as a rental) fetching at least a 1st this year. But in all honesty, Barrie sucks and it would be a win for the oilers if they got rid of him while getting value back.
