Lets here the trade scenarios for these guys!

Oilers need a DFD as the 3rd pair right-side dman and all of the mentioned dmen here are solid defensively and won't obliterate the bank.

Chiarot will fetch 1st + 3rd. Even though he SHOULD get 2nd + 4th

I think braun is the David savard of this deadline and chiarot is going to be the biggest overpayment in recent TDL memory.

I wouldn't do that. If you can only get a 4th half retained for kulak they would be better off offering that retention spot as a 3rd party in a trade because historically thats what the cost has been. It has to be a 3rd to consider eating salary.

It fits what I could see. If we retain on Chiarot + Kulak + Lehkonen, that would be perfect. If the habs trade Petry instead of Lehkonen, they can retain there although I would rather trade Petry for a box of used traffic cones from Rue Sherbrooke right now with 2M retained.

They serve completely different options tbh, Kulak is more of a bottom pairing moving defenseman while Chiarot is more of a defensive, physical defenseman. Chiarot is someone any team will be happy to have come playoffs, my thoughts on him were negative until the cup run last season, and he hasnt been too bad considering the circumstances. Unfortunately for him, we have guys coming up soon who can play his role.

The issue being is that NHL has told reffs to crack down on dmen cross-checking like its the 70's. if the reffs comply, chiarot becomes useless. Cause he cross-checked the leafs outta the playoffs in honesty

I mean as a PP quarterback I think they'd want him. probably would take some young capital to make a deal work but, without weber, the habs need a point man for the powerplay

Braun isn't returning 1st + 3rd like Savard did. Prob like a 3rd, chiarot is last years Savard

As I said, for a 5th or less. Wideman for barrie swap is welcome also

Siegenthaler too important to NJ that I doubt they trade him. Also he hasn’t played RD at all this whole season to my knowledge (not that he can, just rarely does if at all).

If they want someone to be useless beyond qbing a pp they can just sign wideman for 750k and not spend 4.5 million on a replacement level 5 on 5 dman.

I mean wideman isn't going to help a bottom 5 PP get better. Since you are rebuilding, improving the PP is a good way to keep young players engaged plus the deal probably comes with young assets which the habs would definitely like in their current state

Knowing the NHL, theyre more laxed during playoffs period. Even without crosschecking, hes still able to throw hits and even *he* gets flashes of brilliance (he had plays where he skated past entire teams during the playoffs, unfortunately none of those turned into goals).
There are reported 12 teams looking at him and the Leafs are at the head of those. I can see him going to the Leafs or Rangers since they both need/want that extra grit and physicality. I would be happy with a 1st while retaining him 50% to the Rags, but for Toronto they have to pay the RST (Rival Sales Tax).

according to CJ, he is morelikley to go to an American team as flames are out and Toronto isn't even in the top 3 for him atm. Either way the point stands that chairot is going to be traded for a MASSIVE overpayment

Siegenthaler or Lyubuskin are the only right answers. Maybe Soucy but I'd rather have the first two guys

Yep, I dont get the narrative of him going for a 1st + a top prospect unretained. He isnt that good. Maybe Weber last year couldve MAYBE gotten that if people ignored his underlying issues and cap hit

Nobody needs to overpay for a defenseman this deadline - there are a whole bunch on the market, quality and quantity. It's a buyer's market. Why would someone overpay for Chiarot when Giordano, Lindholm and Chychrun are available?

Defensive-goals-vs-replacement (NHL rank among 294 d-man with 50 min TOI)

Siegenthlaer 8.2 (1st)
Braun 5.3 (8th)
Pysyk 4.5 (14th)
Lyubushkin 3.9 (20th)
Kulak 3.0 (31st)
Soucy 0.5 (132nd)

Siegenthaler wouldn't be available, but Braun, Pysyk and Lyubuskin may be good options.

They are capable of playing the right side that's the thing. I mean I am a big fan of snagging lybushkin for the role. plays for a trash yotes team and has elite underlying defensive stats

I've personally never seen Soucy or Siegenthaler play RD, but won't pretend to watch all their games. As for Siegenthaler, I highly doubt NJ trades him right now.

For me:
Soucy
Braun
Lyuskhin
Pysk
Kulak
Siegenthaler

However none of these guy's are better than Barrie so if Oil are gonna have one of them play the right side then Barrie would have to be involved in the trade. Also if these players are all rentals whether it's left side or right side, how big of an upgrade are they on the existing third pairing oilers guy's? To me Koekkoek, Russell, Niemalinin, Laegessen would fall around where Pysk and Kulak are. So if the oilers spend a 3rd or even higher on any of these guy's are they really that big of an upgrade? Now if Braun, Lyus, or Pysk would resign then that may be a different story

Wny Siegenthaler so low?
He's statistically the best defensive defensemen in the entire league
