Those are two exact trades that I've looked at, but I'm not sure about either of them anymore.
In a vacuum it makes a lot of sense to go after Necas as a top-6 addition that fits our core age range. He would bring a different element to this team and while it is a bit risky to see how his style of play would mesh with our system, it could work it very well. My main concern is his hockey fit within our team. In my mind it's essentially Necas vs. Lindholm this offseason as they would both command a similar cap hit and play in the same spot. The advantage with Lindholm is he brings a different element that fits with our core very well as a bumper/middle/net front guy on the powerplay and is a core member of the PK. I'm not sure Necas can replicate either of those things, if he can then its an easy decision. Lindholm also would not cost any assets this summer beyond a contract, which Necas needs as well. The advantage with Necas is he's younger and has potential. Hockey wise I think Lindholm can impact more areas of the game and compliments the existing core we have perfectly, combining that with the fact that he costs zero assets and its tough for me to choose Necas over him.
The Pageau trade makes a lot of sense and he could fit in very well with us. My only concern would be a lack of team speed with the departure of Mikheyev which is something that management is very conscious of. It sounds like they believe he can be better next year and are willing to give him that chance.
