I say keep him and try and make him the 3C, if he stays healthy issa W, if not LTIR

Unfortunately dobson is one of the very very few defenseman in the league where we'd have to be adding to marner. He's about as untouchable as you can get right now.

Under the Radar options
I don't see Coleman being moved, unless he specifically asks to get traded.
The Flames have Kadri, Huberdeau, Backlund, and Coleman to help guide and develop our younger forwards to play the right way. I see all 4 sticking around for the remainder of their contracts.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cmarch</b></div><div>I like Vatrano a lot, I'm just very skeptical about his production going forward and his contract. He seems to be more of a 45-50 point player than what he was this past year and the next question becomes what contract does he demand?</div></div>
I agree, i think vatrano is more of a 22 G 45 pt guy on any other team and he’ll want 6+ mill on a long term contract at age 30

redo of Frost trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cmarch</b></div><div>I think with Torts not liking Couturier and Frost I could see you guys trading Frost. Even if you're not a fan of the 1st you can then flip that for a center that Torts would want</div></div>
I still think Torts likes Coots, was just a big stretch for him to play full regular season after missing 2 years and couldn't get the best out.
Frost on the other hand though, doesn't really seem to be a fit in Torts' system and could see them moving him. 20th ovr could be used to aqcuire young C or maybe trading up in draft if they are taking the longer way.

If Lou Lamiorello wants to spend what he got yesterday on Chychrun
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sensonfire</b></div><div>There was barely any playoff push at the time, if any.
Too far back in the standings after a slow start to the season.
And cmarch's point is that this return has the exact same value as what Ottawa paid for Chychrun.
Which is not correct ...</div></div>
There 100% was... Ottawa was 2 pts back of FLO at the time (who had the 2nd wild card spot)...
https://www.hockey-reference.com/boxscores/2023/03/1/
So <a href="/users/cmarch" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@cmarch</a>'s point is correct as Dorion thought, at the time of the trade, that the pick would be in the 16th-20th range, and making the 2nd in the 50-55 range...
That fact that OTT faded at the end had nothing to do with Dorion's perceived value of spending those assets

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cmarch</b></div><div>Isles say no. Genuinely don't get this whole Pulock for Ehlers thing. Isles are looking to trade picks not players from their core. They're most certainly not trading their top prospect in George</div></div>
I'm a Jets fan and agree, top 6 wingers typically dont return a top pair right shot D man in a deal, the Jets would have to give up more, and Pulock would have to waive, even being a Manitoban its unlikely.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>cmarch</b></div><div>Not even close if you want Dobson. Dobson probably starts with Connor and Perfetti.</div></div>
Agree, unless Dobson has asked for a trade he wont be moving, and if he has this would cost a significant amount for Wpg. At least one first, their best prospect, and one legit NHLer.

It isn't a bad trade but any stretch, I just don't know if I want to take that risk with Norris injury history. If he stays healthy it is an easy isles win

Aggressive retool
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Marcheesy</b></div><div>Then you should be selling on Nelson too. Imo if the direction is selling high on guys and replacing them with younger quality players. Palms, Nelson, Pelech, Pulock should all be traded</div></div>
True, but Nelson also has been better than Palms, been here longer, is an alternate so I don't seem him being traded. He was the first islander I ever saw score a goal live so I do have some bias with him. Still selling him wouldn't be that bad of an idea all things considered
Point is we need to retool and this offseason and next is the ideal time to do so

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Marcheesy</b></div><div>Isles say no. Just due to the length of Rakell's contract. If Pittsburgh starts their offer with Rackell and a 1st for JGP, I'd listen.

Im assuming the assumption is he tells treliving hes not re-signing and he picks up an asset but that seems very unlikely. However if that were to happen the money makes a lot of sense actually.

Lous Hockey Trades
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Marcheesy</b></div><div>Gotcha, makes sense. Do you think this could be something Ottawa is interested in? I know they want some veterans to lead a young core.</div></div>
I don't think it's unreasonable and it seems like a pretty Pierre Dorion thing to do. Bailey's contract shouldn't be an issue since it'll be up by the time the Sens are getting into more of a cap crunch, but I think it only makes sense of Connor Brown gets moved in the offseason, or some other spot otherwise opens up on the 3rd line. Dorion has said he's specifically looking for a young, bonafide top 6 winger with team control, which Bailey doesn't fit anymore, and 2/3 of the 3rd line is pretty locked in between Formenton, Pinto and Connor Brown. Dorion likes Branny but isn't dumb enough to not know the deal with him, I could see something like this happening for sure. I think most Sens fans would rather just see them either hold onto Branny or add him as a sweetener in a package for a bigger fish, but this is pretty reasonable and realistic.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Marcheesy</b></div><div>8-9M is like Makar/Fox money, Dobson is going to need to add 10+ points and improve defense slightly to make that. I think anywhere from 6.5M to 7.5M is about right</div></div>
Makar got 9 mill x 6 , Fox 9.5 x 7 - that was without arbitration rights. In a year Dobson will be have arb rights.
Mcavoy is obviously better than Dobson , but has similar PPG totals. He signed 9 mill x 8, Seth Jones 9.5 x 8 and even Nurse got 9.25 x. 8. Werenski 9.5 x 6 too
If Dobson gets a 2 year bridge I think it would cost 8.5 mill x 8 to sign him. That’s why I want to give him 7.25-7.5 x 7-8 years right now

NYR, maybe NYI, maybe LA or Vegas....it's pretty slim pickings is my guess. He's going to want to stay in the US and play on a very big stage
