<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>TheBoyDuddus</b></div><div>More of a winger than a centre but he has decent upside. Huge body, very physical. Was a high 2nd round pick last year and almost made the team out of camp as he was one of the last cuts. Had a decent year back in junior but absolutely torched the WHL in the playoffs and parlayed that into a bottom 6 energy role on team Canada at the WJC. This season will be telling for his upside but expect a big year in the WHL again and a bigger role for Canada at the WJC.
I see him as a quintessential 3LW. Huge body, very physical, soft hands, good shot.. hopefully he can be a 15-20 goal, 30-40 point energy guy in the league.</div></div>
I like Ostapchuk, moves well, and he would be a good addition to the NYR prospect pool. We have prospect wingers ready to make the roster in 2023 setting up for a roster crunch, so I don't think he would move Drury to make this trade. The NYR has good center depth at the NHL level, but we could use a younger prospect. I am starting to doubt that the Habs are really interested, there are rumors that they are only interested if Lundkvist is practically given to them. Nils was the team's number one prospect heading into last year by many accounts, so I doubt that will happen.

Could easily see one win a spot in training camp. Weegar is a local player so I could see him signing with us next season</div></div>
How do you compare Thomson and JBD to Lundkvist, a swap?

Being good with the NHL depth on defense does not mean you don't want to improve it.
Lundkvist has come out and said he will not be attending camp so no he doesn't have a chance at the 3LD role.
I don't see how the waiver exempt part is relevant since Jones is exempt and clearly less proven. And the cost difference also shouldn't be particularly relevant either</div></div>
"Being good with the NHL depth on defense does not mean you don't want to improve it."
The priority is spending resources on center depth, not LHD. Sandin will block other cheap highly rated prospects
"Lundkvist has come out and said he will not be attending camp so no he doesn't have a chance at the 3LD role."
He had the chance to compete but chose to forgo it. Something that points to why he will not be happy on another team in a diminished role.
"I don't see how the waiver exempt part is relevant since Jones is exempt and clearly less proven. And the cost difference also shouldn't be particularly relevant either"
Rangers are in a cap crunch with many implications including cap growth at the trade deadline
Sandin was looking for guarantees about playing time and I guess you would say he definitely will be 3LD but that is not certain. He could be occupying a spot on the roster that would prevent other roster moves from happening during the season.

What is his value
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Xspyrit</b></div><div>Chytil is quality (even though you wish he'd produce more) but he is not needed for Ottawa, and probably not for a long time
Sens should focus on improving the defense and/or goaltending now.
Also, look at what emoprettyboy said in post #8. Trent Mann is extremely high on Pinto. He just won't be traded in the near future</div></div>
I guess there is no bringing Pinto home and his story is appealing. Chytil and Lundkvist are probably as far as the NYR would go if their evaluators thought Pinto was the 3C answer. I am not sure who I would rather have as Chytil took a leap last year in throwing around his size, so he might turn out to be exactly what is being looked for. Yes, he needs to produce more during the season, but he has the makings and is considered one of the fastest skaters on the NYR and can be a force-cutting down the middle.

Drury has come out and said he is good with the depth on defense at the NHL level. and that he most likely will not bring in another D on a PTO. Lundkvist had a chance to compete for 3rd line LHD on his off-side against two other prospects, but he is only going to be happy if he is sent to a team where he plays top 4 minutes RHD and has a chance to compete for PP1 QB duties. NYR does not need another LD in the mix that is not waiver-exempt and will upset the cap space.

Finishing touches
Välimäki would be a pricey 7th d, Include Hájek in the deal and get back a younger RHD to shore up NYR depth, someone like Boltmann (i know very little about him). Neither Flame is waiver exempt so it will further tighten a packed roster, of course, dependent on moving Reaves given the cap space and questionable whether Drury is ready to do that. If our depth is replaced then it might work.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>emoprettyboy</b></div><div>Pinto isn't "untouchable", but he might as well be. Trent Mann completely stuck his neck out to make sure the Sens drafted Pinto, and they'll only trade him away over his cold dead body. They see him as as pivotal of a core piece as anybody else. they'd have to be blown away by an offer to even consider moving him</div></div>
I would like to say Drury is tempted about paying the price, but the simple fact is that waiver-exempt centers with a chance to emerge are too expensive without dramatically disrupting the prospect pool. It is why I believe it will have to be a young center prospect.

Othmann to 3rd line, Blais to 4th, and Reaves to AHL.</div></div>
I am with you, Othmann would benefit greatly and I would be excited to see it. I don't think the Rangers are prepared to make the moves required because the roster is packed. No AHL for him next year.

Svechkov is a good choice, the prospect needs to be waiver exempt. There is no room on the Roster

The New One Making the Rounds That Caught My Eye
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Waffelz</b></div><div>Eklund seems more likely to be a LW in the NHL, but otherwise this seems accurate. How would NY react to Ozzy Wiesblatt or Tristen Robins?</div></div>
Lundkvist is the NYR RHD insurance for this year, and any trade must be worth it to give this up. Wiesblatt and Robins are good prospects but wingers or in Robins case more likely a winger in the NHL. They would be blocked from getting on the roster with Cuylle and Othmann sure to make the team next year. The NYR is looking for a Center prospect with a 2c upside to slot into the 3c role down the road. Bystedt was a bit of reach at his draft position but has the makings to be defensively responsible/PK if he hits. It is a gamble but one I think the NYR would make prior to the season.

Both Grier and Quinn are talking about improvements to make the playoffs this year. SJS appears to be more on a retool than a rebuild. They are pretty set at Center depth (Hertl Couture Eklund Bordeleau) and have a deficit in near-term RHD prospects. Merkely is there but I don't believe they think he is an answer.

Lundqvist Trade
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>SlevinKalevra</b></div><div>I’ll stick with our forwards. Stank will likely shift over to RW. Hopefully replacing Pavs on the top line next year. Wyatt with Marchie and Segs. Bourque with Benn and Guri. Makes a lot of sense to me. If Harley struggles to produce I could see our needs changing, but I feel like that won’t be an issue if he’s allowed to play his game. Not turning my nose up at Nils, but I don’t have him in the same category as our three top forwards. Most I’d give for him his Dellandrea and then I feel like it isn’t enough the other way around. I wouldn’t give one of our top three center prospects for Nils and a pick so I don’t expect NY to give Nils for Delly and a pick. If that all makes sense lol. Only way I see Dallas being a fit is if the other team’s offers are unimpressive enough for NY to consider Delly. Even then I’d hesitate as Delly might be more valuable to us than Nils (if Miller is healthy and Harley produces)[/quo
The NYR are looking for a center prospect with 2C upside, Bourque is probably a winger in the NHL and Delly doesn't cut it. Really only interested in Wyatt Johnston, so if you're saying Stars don't need to get a puck moving RHD then you are spot on. There is no motivation to trade.</div></div>

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rob32sjsharks</b></div><div>Lund is really intriguing not sold on Byfield but i wana give him a year. robins was a 2nd rounder, I think Gushin, Robins and Weisblatt would be the 3 i would consider moving, but honestly i really like Gushin and Robins and see both as plus middle 6 guys with Gushin having potential to maybe be a mid level 1st line guy. Weisblatt looks like a middle 6 / bottom 6 energy guy with offensive upside Coe Bordeleau and Eklund are non starters, would also consider Gregor but i don’t think NYR would.</div></div>
All three (Gushchin, Robins, and Weisblatt) have possibilities, it just depends if the Rangers talent evaluators think it is fair value. I think the Rangers would only trade him for a true center prospect with a high upside. The other factor is that Gallant has said Lundkvist is in an open competition on the left side third line with Jones, Robertson, and Hájek and Schneider set on the right side. The issue is that his agent Claude Lemieux is none too happy that he would have to switch to his off-side, but the Rangers will probably see how camp goes unless they get a deal that is in line with organizational needs.

You are right in line with Nils Lundkvist and trading for young center depth The Rangers are cap strapped and have lots of talent coming up, so beyond Nils being added to a blockbuster, they will be looking to add a younger prospect. The Rangers also did not have a first-rounder this year so a replacement in their prospect pool would be a fit. The Sharks had two center picks this year in the same range that Nils was drafted in Bystedt and Lund. Bystedt seems like the better fit given his style of play and what the Rangers have for other center prospects. Would you be willing to swap one of them?
