You and I agree on too many subjects my friend.
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>DragonKnight</b></div><div>Would the Sabres like to return to the days of Darcy Regier? "What not to do as a sports team's General Manager" is what Regier did.</div></div> I do not read the Star so I do not know how much influence the hockey writers have on ownership.
Here in Buffalo our press is terrible.
In 1987 our Anencephalic writers wrote "Buffalo Deserves Better" when management fired Scotty Bowman.
Four years later, he went to Pittsburgh and won the Stanley Cup.
In 1997 the writers thought Ted Nolan was the greatest head coach ever.
Management fired John Muckler because there was a difference of opinion between John and Ted that the writers spent too much ink misinforming the public.
Nolan refused to accept a contract the following year and was released by Darcey Regier.
Muckler went on to be a very successful GM and was fired by the Senators after taking the team to the playoffs.
It is interesting that both John and Scotty remained in Buffalo.

There are many more instances in which the press has influenced ownership as they also influenced Pegula to fire Regier.
I can assure you, if Regier was the GM the Sabres would have been in the playoffs 5 years ago.

Tim Murray set the rebuild back at least 6 years.
Botterill got it on the right track with his drafting and trades (four of the five top defensemen, the top 3 centers, top LW and top GK are all his acquisitions).
Adams sits on his hands, sucks up to Terry and lets Jerry Forton run the drafts, Karmanos act a GM, Crow scout the NHL and Ventura run the analytics.
This should have been the year to make the playoffs, but Adams is too risk adverse to make the needed big move.
Since the start of the season added Erik Robinson for at most a 7th round pick, Buffalo will only give up 7th round pick if he plays more than 45 games (an unlikely event as he would need to play in 27 of the remaining 30 games to achieve that milestone).

Well that is my tome for the week.

Maybe the Sabres give Vsevolod Komarov a chance to develop.
Drafted the same year as Jiricek he is tearing it up with first place Drummondville,
He has 24 points in just 16 games.
Their leading scorer Wooworth has 52 pts in 45 games.
Vsevolod is the same size as Jiricek so who knows another Jerry Forton gem in the rough.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>sabres89</b></div><div>Skinner is ours to treasure, at least until this contract is done, maybe longer. Nobody is taking Skinner at 9m, even for a first, second, and undersized forward prospect. Dylan strome is not somebody we need, we already have far too many forwards that don't know/care about defense. Foegele might be a nice depth piece, but that contract is too rich for me.</div></div> <a href="/users/sabres89" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">@sabres89</a>

You all act as Jeff is Jonathan Huberdeau.
Jeff is on pace to 33 goals this year following seasons with 33 and 35 goals.
He may be over paid by a couple of million but he certainly not untradable, nor do I want to trade him.

Many other NHL forwards have 14 goals YTD are paid nearly the same as he some more some less.

<strong>He is a team player:</strong>
Watch how he celebrates a goal, he immidiately shows his appreciation to his line mates unlike nearly every one else who goes for skate raising their arms releshing the crowd adulation.
Last year he was suspended for three game sticking up for Anderson who was slashed by Guentzel after the end of game horn blew.
When was the last time you saw a Sabre taking umbridge after a Goalie is slashed?

As for his <strong>defense</strong>, his line mates, Tuch and Thompson, are worse which makes him look bad.

If you thought it was a poor decision to sign Jeff after a career year, this post does the same with Dickinson who after only 35 games is already enjoying his best season ever by a wide margin.
That offer will not get Strome and why do the Sabres need him with Tage, Dylan and Casey?
Knock out their salaries add an extra $4,000,000 to the ceiling and there is no reason to use assets to move Jeff.

Let me add, why do you all want to trade 13% of the Sabre goals with assets.

He is having a pretty good year, has comparable stats with Chytil and is only 25 and he would be an RFA for us next year. I like Henrique as a low cost 3C rental but Mitellstadt would fill the void in the event that Chytil is not able to come back from this concussion next year.</div></div> <div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Fox_Czar_Cup</b></div><div>Easy pass. Mitts is not a fit, overpaying his next term would be like signing Strome. Especially for a 1st+. Garand stays. Need a cheaper fit.</div></div> Just to the Ranger fans on this post.
Casey is better than Newhook who returned the 31st and 37th OA.
Because he is a center and plays a 200 foot game, he has a value close to Brandon Hagel who returned Raddysh. 2023 19th OA, and a 2024 first round picks.
So you all may not like it, but the value for Casey is two first round picks and a roster player.
That sounds like Braden Schneider needs to be in the deal to me.

All of this is moot as Casey is an RFA and will be signed or traded for a young RHD (i.e. Schneider)
