Waiting till 2025-2026 to get our C
Boston would get bid for Leon at that price. Just as an example the Habs are looking to have like 30 million in cap space that same year so 13 million is easily beat if it comes down to that

The gang is back in town
I absolutely do not want them spending 13 million in cap space for those players. Won't be here when the core is ready to compete and anyone who won't be here for that is a waste of money, especially when those players aren't good enough to move us into a playoff spot

I think that depends on his contract. If he agreed to a sign and trade, I'd do this, if no extension in place you wait and throw 14 million at him next off season

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ggha777</b></div><div>No they don’t. Drai can’t even win with McDavid and that oilers roster, What makes you think Montreal would give up all those assets(and don’t forget we’re a rebuilding team). If drai couldn’t win in Edmonton he definitely won’t be able to win with the roster Montreal has.</div></div>
He would be the best player to put a Canadians jersey on since Lafleur. It's a massive package but frankly a 100 point player gets that kind of package.
It would also leave the Habs with all their young dcore, Caufield, Slaf and Newhook. That trade would instantly put the Habs in playoff contention and they'd still have cap space to add significantly.

I don't think any of those are elite goalies and typically teams dont win cups with young goalies

I'd be interested to know what chabots actual value is, hasn't been able to stay healthy in years, can produce points but struggles on defense. I don't know if I see Washington making that deal but maybe someone gives you a 1st hoping he turns it around, not likely though
Pitt and Boston say no. Those picks don't get you a top 10 and Ullmark needs something that Boston needs in any trade

He's not a contender second pair. Great shut down guy but typically you want that role as your 5D, penalty killer and playing the hard minutes. Don't think he'll ever be more than the 15-25 point dman and that limits his top 4 role.
Can he play second pair? Absolutely, he's even good at it but for a true contender he shouldn't be in that role. Guhle looks to be a player that can fill that role on a contender

A late 1st with a 50% chance of even playing and a 3C is a good price to pay for a starting goalie. I think the leafs want some retention with that price but I don't think Sammy or Woll are contending team goalies, Markstrom is

NJ and MTL are about to draft for these needs so I don't know why they trade these players just to draft for who they're trying to replace.
NJ does this and then drafts Catton?
MTL does this and drafts Dickinson?
Just don't do it, MTL draft Demidov and NJ draft Perehk, Buium or Yakemchuk
Just seems unnecessary

The "development" thing is trying to put some lipstick on that pig. He hasn't progressed or really shown any signs of doing so in Montreal.
He's an okay depth guy, but you need to take the time to educate yourself on trade values with some comparables. Players like that don't return the haul you are expecting.</div></div>
Guy who's continually wrong and embarrasses himself regularly wants to tell others to educate themselves lol

Graves doesn't get you Barron. After this season you would likely have to pay a team to take Graves, better to just hope he has a bounce back year next year

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>If he had top 4 potential, he might be of interest. He obviously doesn't as this is the 2nd team to give up on him and Barron can't crack the top 4 of an awful team.
Bottom pairing defenseman are plentiful, easy to find and never require a high second in return.</div></div>
What second team gave up on him? Lol
Also, he has actively played top 4 and been fine in that role for the Habs. Like me and others have told you before, he only got sent down because he didn't require waivers. I get you don't understand the basic logic of developing young players but your ignorance is astounding

Just nuked your defense for a slight improvement in your forward core. I would just hope for continued improvement from Kakko and Laf, that will be good enough to keep NYR in contention long term

Chevy is smart enough to not take it that far, id have faith in a signing or equal value trade if I were you. Still think the league in general needs to do something about the college FA situation, what it is, no idea but it shouldn't be that much risk in those drafted players

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>That's cool they should hang onto him, because Winnipeg has no need for him. However a struggling defenseman that isn't good enough to play regularly on a bad team isn't returning a comparable forward AND a high 2nd.
A similar struggling forward, or a late pick would be a fair return.</div></div>

My best Guess
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Windjammer</b></div><div>I don't see Montreal players with the want bias you do, I see then as they actually are. He's a bottom pairing (at best) defenseman. As you say maybe even a career AHL'er. He's not returning a bottom 6 forward and a high 2nd. Two teams have given up on Barron now and he can't crack one of the worst defenses on a team with very little depth. He has no value to a good team with excellent defense like Winnipeg. Both pieces on their own have more value than Barron.
Barron needs waivers to be sent down next season as I understand from Montreal fans and what Cap Friendly says, so he'll and up on waivers next season at some point.</div></div>
So much wrong in this post lol
Bottom pairing dman.... At 22 years old, which means he is still 3 years out from his prime playing age, but sure I guess he'll just never improve because that happens
Kupari is the career AHLer I was referring to, not the dman who's 2 years younger and has more points this season the NHL that Kupari has in his career.
What two teams have given up on Barron? Colorado traded him and MTL is developing him
Like the other guy said, Barron only played in the AHL because of waiver exemption, has nothing to do with not playing well enough to make the team.
Both Kupari and the 2nd have more value alone then Barron does..... Might be one of the dumbest things you've said on this site ands that's a really high bar to beat but congrats.
And no value to a team like Winnipeg? The same Winnipeg team that has no real RHD depth, also no youthful RHD coming up and that might be losing 2/3 of their RHD this off season to FA? That Winnipeg team doesn't need a 22 year old RHD with top 4 potential? Lol

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Rooney</b></div><div>"That Jets management can't get signed"
People really don't do any research lol. We have zero roster turnover next year, McGroarty was sked if he would like to play in the AHL or go back for his Junior year, he went back which makes sense.
He'll be on the Jets roster in 25/26, there will be no issues getting him signed.</div></div>
Great, doesn't change that it's an overpayment.
I agree the Jets won't have trouble signing him but walking him this close to being a FA will always carry a risk and if the managements plan doesn't align with the players, that will cause a problem. Look at cutter and Philly, don't think that will happen here but it is the risk that Jets management is taking
