Description
Need for Need. I think Montreal can depart from Ghule if they draft Dickinson or Buium this year.
NJ needs a young and good LD, they have that in Ghule, and Montreal can play Newhook/Dach/Mercer

Not saying the value is strange or anything....but saying the Devils "need" a young a good D, when they are building around Luke and Nemec seems odd. It's not like their D is old.

NJ and MTL are about to draft for these needs so I don't know why they trade these players just to draft for who they're trying to replace.

NJ does this and then drafts Catton?

MTL does this and drafts Dickinson?

Just don't do it, MTL draft Demidov and NJ draft Perehk, Buium or Yakemchuk

Just seems unnecessary

You need 4 top 4 Ds. No hate to Siegenthaler, but Guhle would be an upgrade and an even bigger one long-term

But honestly, I don't think NJ or MTL does this, since we're keeping our own guys

I meant LD, They have Hughes, and Bahl + Sig are not second line material if you want to win a cup in the next years.

Now you have Hughes/Nemec and Ghule/Hamilton has a top 4, which is really strong.

I had a feeling the Devils cannot wait again for a 17=18 years old D to develop, the window is closing faster than MTL imo.

Nemec and Hughes are 20 and 21 I believe? The teams window will be open long enough for whatever d they may draft to get into the league and hit his prime when both of them are in theirs, that's what NJ likely focus on

Please do some research on Siegs. He's been one of the best shutdown guys over the last 3 years, and this was a down year due to injuries. Just because you don't know if doesn't mean he isn't at least a 2nd pair.

let's say they take a D, takes around 3-4 years before he is second line material. the Devils higher-up seems in a Win now mode, can they wait that long to have a really strong D squad ? They seem ready to compete next year with the Markstrom talk and Aging Hamilton.

He's not a contender second pair. Great shut down guy but typically you want that role as your 5D, penalty killer and playing the hard minutes. Don't think he'll ever be more than the 15-25 point dman and that limits his top 4 role.

Can he play second pair? Absolutely, he's even good at it but for a true contender he shouldn't be in that role. Guhle looks to be a player that can fill that role on a contender

Yes, they can also just wade into FA and sign a 2nd pairing guy while they wait for their 17-18 year old to develop, that will extend their window not close it.
