Necas would be MTLs oldest top 6 forward, don't think they ever give up a young core piece for him

That's not remotely close for Marner. Two bottom six forwards and a goalie that's barely a starter doesn't get 90 point players

Moving dead money this offseason changes needed
So the Habs carry a 7 million cap hit for JGP for a year and take on his contract for the next three years all to move up 20-30 picks? Hahaha
Isles would have to pay us to take JGP lol

Calgary isn't the team to target to move up. I'd look at Pittsburgh or Detroit who are likely wanting to be better immediately and not wait a couple years for prospects.

27 & 26 is firmly in their primes and would push Yzerman into FA years which drives up the price of a each player. Add the fact that Yzerman would be signing them into their 30s and it is a risk for both players.

Yzerman has a lot of trust and respect in the Detroit dressing room, but he's also continuesly shown an unwillingness to sign older players to long term contracts, Seider and Raymond would be taking a risk of they take bridge deals

Habs aren't giving up 5th overall for Zegras. They weren't willing to do that for Cutter, they won't do it for Zegras and thinking it would need Guhle on top of a top 5 pick is way out of the ball park

I know Verbeek said he wants a RHD and RH top 6 forward, Anaheim is getting one of those things here, not both. Problem is that they likely draft a RHD and Zegras is already a RH top 6 forward.
I'd happily make this deal but it only happens if Verbeek really doesn't think Zegras is what Anaheim needs to contend long term

Habs would be paying 4.7 million on the cap to just have a worse player. They're better to just keep Anderson, get him to his last year, retain 50% and take what you get

Blues get their longterm superstar
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>Dude, Thomas played right about the toughest minutes of any forward, if not the toughest. Near the very top of the league in puck battles won two years running. Elite in transition. He is Marner's equal defensively.
And none of that even matters because the Blues are not trading for an 11M winger, let alone one a year from leaving because the Blues are not paying whatever he'd ask.
As for Parayko, he is not available. Simple as. And if you point to analytics, that's just a dead giveaway you don't actually watch him play. Or understand analytics, for that matter.
The Leafs are not getting Parayko. Still.</div></div>
And the Blues will forever be stuck in mediocrity, have fun

He's a top 3 RW in this league. If you're not getting a top pairing dman for him or a younger player with the potential to be a top line player than Toronto is losing the trade

Blues get their longterm superstar
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>Dude, Marner is not better than Thomas. And Parayko is literally a 1RD who was the first Dman to lead the league in both blocks and takeaways. This deal would never be offered in the first place.
Hull was in STL two seasons past Gretzkys departure. And the Blues have had others just as good as Marner since.</div></div>
I love Thomas, would say he's a top 15 center in this league, he hasn't come close to Mariners production or defensive ability. I also can't think of a single other player the Blues have had in the past 20 years who's been a 90+ point player consistently.
Parayko also isn't nearly as valuable as Blues fans on here want people to believe. Wouldn't even count him as a top 20 dman and analytics would say he's even worse than that. On an actual contender he should be on your second pair, like he was when the Blues won a cup.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>mokumboi</b></div><div>He's a better offensive player than Brett Hull? Since when? And the Blues don't care about "stars". They like balanced teams. They're not going to pay Marner 3-4M more than Thomas. And certainly not when the gutted defense means they won't contend for a while.
And I know he's a great player. Superstar is another animal. There are players far worse than Marner with bigger names as "stars".</div></div>
I actually thought Wayne played in St Louis later than Hull. Thought Hull left for Detroit in 97 and Wayne was a Blue in 98 before the rangers.
I get the balance and I get why the Blues wouldn't do the deal but it doesn't stop the fact that Marner would instantly your teams best player and frankly I don't think even this deal gets him out of Toronto. Buch and Parayko are fine players but neither is a star or even a top line player, if Buchnevich was younger or Parayko ever hit his potential it's closer in value but as is the Leafs would only get rid of Marner for a top pairing D man or a young player that can replace him

To be fair, he's far closer to being a superstar than Lily is to being a Parayko replacement. Yikes.</div></div>
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>MoSeider53</b></div><div>Because he's soft as butter come playoff time.</div></div>

I hate saying this because he's a Leaf but he would be the best offensive player to play for the Blues since Gretzky. I get he's considered soft in playoffs but he's also a top 3 RW in this league, while also being one of the best defensive wingers in the league.

I'd do the Buffalo trade in a heartbeat, but they'd never offer that.</div></div>
How is Marner not a superstar?
