Habs and Tavares say no
Don't think Ottawa trades Brady without a sure fire elite piece coming back and I know Cowan is a good prospect, still don't think he's the level Ottawa would be looking for though.

Hayton would be unnecessary as we already have better centers and don't have a use for him
Foerster is the only one in that Philly trade I'd want and I don't see them moving him anytime soon and if they did they'd get better offers

I don't think Winnipeg's view would be that Necas is worth that much more than Vilardi. Vilardi has health issues but when he is in the line up he has performed really well, don't think they make that move for an upgrade

24-25 Canes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>Sorry, in what world? Caufield has 6 more points in 4 more games in more ice time. Hardly outproducing. Younger, yes, but in what way is he better? Necas is undoubtedly the better skater, as he is one of the best in the NHL in both speed and agility. Defense, analytics favor Necas. Creation? Necas. Production, Caufield, barely in more ice time. not to mention, that could very well change between now and the end of the season since Carolina's schedule to this point has been murderous, now it's mostly rebuilding teams.
So, what is your defense that Caufield is better here? He's younger, cool. Seth Jarvis is younger than Connor McDavid, doesn't make him better. You suggest Necas was a 40 point winger when he was Caufield's age, yet Necas already had seen a 65 point pace in the 56 game season. Caufield's attempts have been cut short by his own injuries. And, Caufield has never paced higher than 65 points (this year). Necas is still coming off a 71 point year.
Oh, and the nail in the coffin here? Necas is a natural center! Shocking how quickly people forget that. There's no argument for Caufield to be more valuable than Necas right now.</div></div>
Ah yes the classic there's no argument because I'll ignore all the ones that I don't agree with. Caufield producing a better ppg than Necas at a younger age, Caufield playing against better competition than Necas, Caufield creates chances at a higher rate, Caufield has a better shot, has a higher offensive IQ and then you lay it on that Caufield hasn't stayed healthy.... After one injury that needed surgery. And age with contract status are major factors in trade value, both of which favor Caufield.
It's okay to like Necas more but there isn't a GM in the league that gives him up for Necas 1 for 1.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AStovetop</b></div><div>Vegas missed the playoffs the year before they won the cup & are the 2nd wildcard right now. You never know what happens with a team that has 5-10 players that are extremely injury prone and are most are 30+ years old. Oh and a coach that wears on their team over the course of a few years. And that NJ 2nd is currently 40th overall, and 3-7-0 in their last 10 so certainly not trending the right way.
So no, a First and 2nd to take on that contract would be incredible for MTL and terrible for SJ</div></div>
Eh agree to disagree

24-25 Canes
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Caniac2000</b></div><div>If Necas is going to sign long term this summer, that goes away, sure he's younger, but he's also already got quite the issue with staying in the lineup. I like Caufield, but he's never hit 30 goals and he's never hit 60 points. Necas has (albeit only hit 70 points once). Even Necas' career high in goals is higher.</div></div>
Lol so a younger player that's out producing the player you say is better and you're defense is that he doesn't have the same career highs.
How about this stat, when Necas was Caufield age he was a 40 point winger. Caufield is putting up better numbers while actually being a top line player, something Necas has never had to deal with.
You can have your opinion that Necas is more valuable but it just comes off a biased opinion

Anyone that's watch him sees that this is a player with 85+ point upside. Caufield's career high is 53, Necas is coming off a 71 point season. Necas is the more valuable player there, there's no real argument for Caufield...</div></div>
Except for being younger, producing more this season and being signed long term. But ya, no argument

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AStovetop</b></div><div>This is MTL ACGM, so they're initiating it. As I said if MTL got this kind of offer they'd do everything to make it work. An unprotected first and (what's starting to look like an early) 2nd for a cap dump that you could easily buy out that adds 3.8 in year on, 4.8 in year two, and then 1.3 in years 3 & 4. That would be an absurdly good return for a relatively short term cap dump. I'd rather have Vlasics contract than Gallagher or Anderson that's for sure, but if MTL offered a 1st and 2nd to take on one them than the Sharks absolutely do that</div></div>
It's Vegas 1st so it's late 1st and NJ 2nd is likely a middle round pick. Both picks would likely have less than a 50% chance to even be in the NHL.
Like I said, MTL would ask more to take on that cap and SJ doesn't need to do it but are factual

This team is fine with Monty until they actually want to compete. Better to not give up assets like that for a goalie until you're reliably a playoff team

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>AStovetop</b></div><div>Sharks have like 20 mil in cap space and only two more years on that contract after this. Why would they give up extremely valuable future assets to dump it? That's the dumbest thing I've ever seen and MTL would be insane not to take that and just buy him out.
But again, the Sharks aren't PAYING great picks to dump contracts. To suggest SJ would need to add more is actually insane with the context of that contract and where the Sharks are</div></div>
San Jose's cap structure doesn't matter to MTL. Montreal's matters to MTL and for them to take that much money on they'd be asking for more from San Jose. I agree that San Jose doesn't have to move that contract, doesn't change the fact that if they asked MTL to do it the price would be higher than that.

Getting to an average top 6
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>jonh514</b></div><div>I appreciate your perspective, but it seems to me that you completely ignored the meat of my post.
Do you think this team makes the Playoffs in 2024-25?</div></div>
I dont think they do. Every team in the Atlantic is still better than this Habs team.
For me you bring those veterans in when the youth establishes themselves a bit more. Suzuki and Caufield are there already, Slaf looks like he will be there by 2025-26, Dach and Newhook are ?, Roy looks promising but they'll likely add another forward this draft and that's the real key to making that playoff push.
Which ever forward we draft this year and Reinbacher need to become regular NHLers before we start signing veterans to big money contracts. Once we know what we have in those two players the team can go and sign veterans for bottom 6 roles and leadership, not have to sign them for long term contracts that put them in important roles

I wouldn't give up MTLs 2024 1st by its self for Johnston so I don't know why they'd add even more.

SJ would have to add even more than that to Vlasic for MTL to say yes
