Selling low on a prospect in his first full AHL year is really not Holland's style though. He loves to slow bake the young guys, doesn't usually panic when they don't immediately produce. Holland's best attribute.

Idk if EDM is running 97 or 29 together or apart right now, but Connor Brown can be a great benefit for any situation.</div></div>
The Oil need a LHD and a proven starting goalie more than a 6th best forward. So if a 1st was spent on a 6th best forward, and not put all in for those other positions of greater need, Holland would be misusing his assets.
I love Brown, but this is why the trade makes no sense to me for what the team needs now.

3rd line has looked good lately with McLeod back up and going well, just depends if it works out long term. But if you're thinking Brown would be brought in to shore up a 3rd line wing spot and make the bottom 6 better, that sounds nice, but I don't see that as a priority worth spending a 1st on when LD was already needing a bit of support before 3 injuries to it, and with goaltending relying on an unpredictable Koskinen and a wonderful but extremely green Skinner for the foreseeable future.

Love Brown. But in general, I just don't see why Holland would be interested in using the 1st on anything but a big LHD or to solidify the goalie situation for longer term. The Oilers' biggest holes rn are not really in the top 9 forwards, except maybe at 3C (unless McLeod keeps going like he is - then even that is fine).

Looks like Keith is out too. So If Russell, Broberg, Lagesson are left side for more than just tonight, then yes I'll be slightly panicked. But not sure how serious what happened to him will end up being. Hard to tell with older guys.

Oilers Deadline
I have come around on Chiarot (half retained) for a 1st. If Nurse is out at all longer than 2-3 weeks, Chiarot would be not just for a playoff run, but helping the backend not collapse mid season. With Koekkoek out, Russell plays more, which usually leads to Russell getting banged up. Keith is already banged up too, and even if not out long, playing 25 mins a night he is sure to keep getting sore and miss more. Broberg is looking nice, but playing him 20 mins or more could be quite bad for his development imo, that's intense. At this point, with the team when playing well poised to make that pick in the late part of the 1st round, I would be happy to send it for Chiarot at half price. Just my take though. Chiarot's value being not just a playoff piece, but a regular season patch up as well, makes it probably worth it.

Are the Edmonton Oilers built for playoff hockey and lines
If McLeod is starting to produce by the deadline, then could be fine. Otherwise, should go and get a 3C rental that can give dependable offence. I think Kassian and Foegele, on average, would hold their own or overpower other 3rd lines with a somewhat offensive C in the middle (I'm talking .4 to.5ppg).
4th line could use an energy guy (Archibald?). Holloway, if he is healthy and has had a dozen games or so in Bake, could also take the ace of Benson/Perlini to give a better checking option.
On D, should get a big tough LD for the playoffs to play with Barrie 5v5. Nurse-Bouch, Keith-Ceci, Trade-Barrie should do fine.
At goal, just depends on who is hot. Nice to know Skinner is a real NHL option. Maybe there will be a trade for a proven playoff starter(who isn't 40 and injury prone), but with what seems like 3 decent goalies, might be fine to just roll into the playoffs with who is hot.

I think Holloway will be in the lineup before Lavoie. Lavoie might need another AHL season based on early results. Foegele and Holloway both play both wings, so they can do either third line wing. With McLeod that would be a nice line.

And Broberg seems on top of his game down in Bake right now. A good time to look at him for 2 weeks. Samo just needs more time post injury.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CD282</b></div><div>Dylan Holloway.</div></div>
I mean, Holloway at full tilt would be great. But in no way at all should Edmonton depend on him being 1) fully healthy at a specific point, and 2) ready to give dependable, playoff 3C minutes. He's talented, but not everyone can pull a Caulfield. Hell Caulfield even couldn't repeat at the outset of this season. So I'd hope they add another veteran C.

Broberg recalled
If Bouch and Broberg get some chemistry going, that would be bloody amazing. I feel the mix could work, Bouch being very positionally sound, Broberg a better skater but perhaps taking more risks.
Excited to see Broberg have a shot, his numbers in Bake are great. I am ready for lots of bumps in the road though.

Sure, but he's still putting up pretty good points. Something hard to find consistently in the bottom 6. But I agree, some drawbacks, a player like Larsson would perhaps be more useful in most situations, other than increasing bottom 6 scoring...which would be nice.

If he stays uncharacteristically offensively hot, yes I agree. But deadlines have been unpredictable lately (see Hall not getting a 1st...), so I figure Lavoie and a 2nd is a good starting point for "negotiations".

Washington wouldn't sell Eller if they're in a playoff position though, no? He'd definitely be a great 3C fit, but didn't think Washington would be a target. Looks like Larsson has been playing a lot of shutdown minutes in Arizona, low cap hit and probably flying under the radar with how much Arizona sucks, so I went with him here.

Adding young guns to win later
If Smith is out pretty long-term, I could see that. Marody is fine depth but won't be a significant piece, and Rodrigue has great potential but is very far away, and one of Skinner and Konovalov look backup worthy in the next couple of seasons. So for what the Oil need now, probably fair.

Based on last season, I feel there was some promise to the idea in swapping Koski with a pick for Korpi, under the premise of cap flexibility for the Oil, and a younger Korpi could have a good season and perhaps be around for a while. But right now, Koski is playing a starting role with Smith out, and actually thriving. Korpi's backup stats are still bad. So no chance this makes sense.

Carter would be a nice C option behind Connor and Leon for a playoff push. This would be a fair price for sure.

<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>Jeuck75</b></div><div>Pretty sure we sign Pulju before Yam</div></div>
Agree. I'm sure Holland will go through many other options first (offloading Kass, or Barrie, potential Keith retirement, etc.), but if none of the preferable.options can happen, I'd hope Yamo would be offloaded for picks to sign Pulju if needed. Pretty simple to move one of Hyman/Foegele over to the RW (they both have played either wing), and Holloway coming into the top 9 next year barring some terrible prolongation of his current injury issues.
Love Yamo, but I don't think he'll ever be more than the 6th guy in the top 6. So far this season, Pulju is the biggest game breaker after Connor and Leon. Move mountains to keep that.

Rebuild
I can't see why Strome would go straight for a 2nd rn, his stock is so low and his cap hit is enough to cause problems for a team like the Oil. Make it Turris and a 3rd and it might make sense. Idk if there is a fit there though.

Trade idea
Oil still need a solid 3C. Holloway could be that for years, starting really soon. I think he's about their least likely prospect to trade rn, definitely not for another winger and a goalie who is quite good, but not a clear bonafide starter or anything. Not saying Allen and Toffoli aren't worth a haul, they are, just not this kind of trade with the Oil.

I do like the idea of McNabb as Barrie's partner. Would give 3 decent pairings to roll. Doubt Vegas would be too interested in trading a useful piece to their division rivals unless they are truly pinched on cap with no other options though.
